Chapter 22: Duel

The blood bullets were fast and accurate, but Sol, though injured, wasn’t easy to hit, as his speciality is running away. He used his power of winds to dodge the blood bullets.

But sadly Max wasn’t alone; Andrew and Mathew, seeing Sol occupied, jumped on him. And immediately the situation became worse for him.

Andrew and Mathew attacked in close-range combat, whereas Max supported them by firing Blood Bullet at the right time to do the most damage.

"Aaah!"

A blood bullet pierced through his legs, and his movement slowed down even more. He was in danger; if he didn’t run, he would surely die here.

He made up his mind just as he was about to run for his life; a token on his waist seemed to glow a bit, and immediately his terrified eyes showed excitement.

"They are here!" He muttered in excitement.

Max had also noticed this, and quickly he felt many powerful blood energies coming towards this direction.

"Damn!" He cursed.

"Brother Andrew, Brother Mathew, quick, leave!" He shouted, and the two brothers quickly followed without hesitation.

Sol didn’t try to stop this time, as he was on the verge of collapsing. If they hadn’t come, he would have run away with his last bit of remaining strength.

But it was unfortunate for Max’s group; even if they now try to run, it was too late.

A powerful voice echoed throughout the mountain forest.

"Where do you think you three are running?" freewebnσvel.cøm

The next instant—eight powerful auras descended from every direction, surrounding them before they could escape.

They were led by a young man, but his aura was the calmest and steadiest, while the other seven also weren’t weak.

Max’s face felt as if he felt strong blood energy from all of them. They were at the same level as Ace and Sol.

Facing even one of them had been troublesome. Now they were facing eight such warriors, especially the youngest guy who appeared to the leader.

His blood energy was off the chart, almost twice the others’, even more than his own. Max even felt like he wasn’t on the same level at all, like he seemed to partially transcend them all.

This young man who appeared to be sixteen or seventeen with an aura alone seemed to be able to make them lose the will to fight.

It was especially for the two brothers Andrew and Mathew, as it was too much for them. Max was alright compared to them; although he felt heavy oppression, it wasn’t enough to make him lose his faith.

But the situation was too bad; even he didn’t see much chance, as there wasn’t just one bloodline awakened surrounding them but eight.

Was this really how it would end? He had transmigrated into this world less than a day ago.

He hadn’t even survived twenty-four hours. Would he become someone’s slave... Or simply die here?

"...Fuck."

Max cursed inwardly.

"If some bastard really arranged my transmigration... I hope he’s cursed to be cuckolded for all eternity. May he have thousands of sons and daughters and not a single one of them be his."

But although he can curse, it wouldn’t change the current situation.

"Sol, you seem to be in a difficult situation." The young leader then looked at heavily injured Sol, who was barely standing.

Others also looked at Sol, and some of them laughed.

"That’s right, why you are in such a sorry state and where that psycho Ace is." One of them asked, feeling surprised and curious.

Sol smiled; he was now without any pressure. "I don’t know, but he might be dead."

Hearing this, all of them were shocked and looked at Max, Andrew and Mathew.

"Who killed them?" The young leader asked with interest.

"That one." He pointed his finger towards Max. "And he’s also the one the family head ordered us to bring back."

All of them looked at Max with surprised expressions. As far as they knew, he was just a peasant and luckily had just awakened, and yet he was able to kill the psycho Ace.

Ace might have been eccentric—even insane—but no one questioned his strength. They cannot believe there was such a genius in the slums of the Black Iron City.

Curiosity filled their eyes. Even among the descendants of powerful noble families, such talent was exceedingly rare. No wonder the family head had personally ordered Max’s capture.

The young leader finally stepped forward while looking at Max.

"My name is Cassian Blackthorn." His voice echoed steadily through the forest.

"You three have no chance of escaping." He paused for a moment before continuing.

"However... I, Cassian Blackthorn, will give you one opportunity." The others looked at him in surprise but remained silent.

"In the honour of House Blackthorn, I challenge you to a duel. If you defeat me..."

"I will allow the three of you to leave." His confident voice rang throughout the forest.

Max was shocked by hearing such words. He couldn’t care about honour or any bullshit pride of nobles, as they mostly aren’t great people, but as long as he was able to leave, nothing matters.

Andre and Mathew, beside Max, also felt hope and spoke, "Max, this might be a chance."

He nodded, agreeing with them.

The other bloodline awakeners also looked surprised and couldn’t help but curse inside, ’You wouldn’t be punished as the pride of the House of Blackthorn, but they would definitely be punished heavily if they didn’t bring the Kid.’

But then they calmed down as they didn’t believe he would lose to a newly awakened peasant.

No matter how talented he was... There was no way he could defeat the greatest genius of House Blackthorn.

Besides... Only Cassian had made the promise.

They hadn’t. If things went wrong which is practically impossible... They could always intervene. So, although they were surprised, all of them remained calm and watched whether the peasant would accept the challenge or not.

"A duel, why not?" Max quickly stepped forward. He knew that the guy in front of him was very strong, but he was determined to survive.
