Chapter 11: Run!

Max looked at the long, hard, sturdy spear. He never used a weapon, so it was the first time, and his enemies weren’t novices.

He knew it wouldn’t be simple like before, where he just bitch-slapped those untrained thugs without trouble. But he was going to face veteran soldiers who had vast experience. Even though he was a bloodline awakener, he was still just a novice with brute strength. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

After taking a deep breath, he calmed down, and since it came to this, let’s just go with the flow. He felt he wasn’t too brave, but he wasn’t going to give up; his life and destiny only belong to him, and nobody can control it.

Andrew then came to after wearing the armour, looking more intimidating and ready for battle. "We are going to break through from the eastern side that had fewer soldiers. It’s better than going from the centre."

Max nodded.

Andrew’s expression grew serious.

"Once we start moving, don’t stop. Our goal isn’t to fight. Our goal is to escape."

"We’ll break through their ranks and keep running. If soldiers get in your way, knock them aside and continue forward."

"Don’t get dragged into meaningless battles."

"Every second we waste gives the Blackthorn family more time to surround us."

Max nodded and understood, tilting his helmet; his main goal was to cross the main gate and enter the mountains surrounding the Black Iron City. And entering the tricky landscape, only then can they have a chance to flee.

"Okay then, let’s move," and three of them silently made their way to the eastern side of the gate. Although they were wearing armour, it didn’t draw much attention, as every caravan had some sort of guards or soldiers travelling along, and some were wearing armour, so it wasn’t all that surprising.

As they approached the gate, the atmosphere became increasingly tense. Finally, they reached a distance where they could clearly see the blockade.

The three of them looked at each other and nodded, as this was the time, and after this they couldn’t step out.

Then they calmly began walking forward.

Their expressions remained casual and relaxed.

As though they were ordinary guards carrying out ordinary business.

Step.

Step.

Step.

For a few moments, nobody paid them any attention.

Then a soldier suddenly frowned, his eyes narrowed, and something felt wrong.

"Hey!"

His shout immediately drew the attention of nearby soldiers.

"You three stop there. Where are you going? Stop there."

More soldiers turned towards them. But they didn’t stop and calmly continued to move forward like they heard nothing.

"Stop! Didn’t you hear? I said stop, bastards!" The same soldier continued to shout, but the three seemed to completely ignore it.

Seeing this, the soldier couldn’t take any more and came running towards them and stopped right in front of the three.

"You three, how dare you ignore my words?"

The surrounding soldiers began paying attention, sensing that something was wrong.

The soldier, emboldened by the crowd watching him, puffed out his chest and pointed at the trio.

"You three can forget about ever leaving this city!"

His voice dripped with arrogance. As he was a distant relative to the noble house of Blackthorn, he wanted to show off his authority and power in front of the soldiers. He knows he cannot do much in the presence of a truly strong person, but he thought these three were the right people for him to establish some authority.

"I’ll personally make sure you’re thrown into the deepest dungeon Blackthorn has."

"You’ll spend the rest of your miserable lives rotting in darkness, begging for death but never receiving it!"

A cruel grin spread across his face. Like he can already see the future of these three being rotting in prison because they mess with him.

He was now expecting these three to start begging him not to send them to the dungeon, but sadly what he hoped for didn’t happen. Instead, a powerful fist came flying at his face.

"What!" He was caught off guard, not expecting someone to dare to attack him. And could only watch as the fist landed on his face, broke his jaw and sent him flying two or three metres. His dreams of showing off shattered immediately as he lay on the ground losing consciousness.

For a brief moment, silence fell over the area. Two brothers looked at Max as he made the move, surprising both of them a bit.

"What? His face was just asking for it." Max simply shrugged. But they quickly snapped back.

"Run!"

And the three, without hesitation, ran with all their might.

Only then did the surrounding soldiers recover from their shock. Their expressions changed dramatically.

"No, stop them!" They roared and quickly chased.

The entire eastern checkpoint instantly descended into chaos. Max, Andrew and Mathew charged, not caring about the chaos.

Their speed was inhuman, as three of them were bloodline awakeners. They were running at the speed of seventy or eighty kilometres per hour.

Max, who was running, felt a bit surprised as he felt he could go faster, but he maintained the speed because of the two brothers. He can feel their blood flow and heartbeat; both were giving their all, but it seems like nothing to him.

Just from the difference in their physical stats, he can guess his Blood Dragon bloodline was many times stronger than theirs.

The soldiers at the eastern gate noticed the three were coming towards them. They quickly took their battle formation. Shields were raised and spears levelled. From the inhumane speed of running, they knew they were facing bloodline awakeners.

But this didn’t make them afraid, as they weren’t without their trump cards. At that moment, two figures stepped forward from their ranks.

Both wore black-and-silver armour engraved with thorn patterns. The insignia of House Blackthorn.

Their aura was completely different. Max, Andrew, and Mathew immediately noticed them.

Likewise, the two armoured warriors fixed their gaze on the charging trio. For a brief moment, both sides assessed each other.

No words were needed. Everyone present understood the same thing. These two... were bloodline awakeners as well.

The three of them became serious, as these two were the first true hurdle for them. Max gripped his spear tightly, as this would be his first battle against Bloodline awakeners. His first faceoff against a supernatural being.
