Chapter 10: Spirit-Marked Armour

The announcement shocked everyone, as who is the guy that forced the Blackthorn family to take such a step as locking down the entire city? Such a kind of thing has never happened in decades since the House of Blackthorn has taken control.

And what was the reason he made the Blackthorn family go this far?

"What did this person do?"

"Did someone assassinate a noble?"

"Could it be a criminal?" Speculation spread rapidly through the crowd.

None among them were happy, as they were forced to stay, but nothing could be done; the Blackthorn family wasn’t easy to mess with.

Max, who was a bit far, heard the announcement, and his expression couldn’t help but change and cursed his shit luck.

A bad feeling rose within him. He couldn’t prove it. There was no evidence. But every instinct in his body screamed the same thing.

The lockdown... was for him.

But thinking of this, he felt it was too much, as he was just a low-life peasant. If he was that important, why not catch him directly before, when they had a chance? However, now the Blackthorn family are going all out, like he cuckolded their family leader.

Going all out sealing the entire city in his search. Something must have happened which changed their action.

Max’s gaze settled on the barricaded gates ahead.

His jaw tightened.

"Fuck..."

He cursed inwardly.

"Couldn’t they wait a few more days?"

It felt as if the entire Blackthorn family had suddenly gone mad and decided to hunt him down like a pack of rabid dogs.

And now... The only exit from the city stood firmly closed before him.

Andrew and Mathew also watched everything from the sidelines and couldn’t help but look at Max, wondering what the hell this guy did. But it also made their situation quite dangerous.

Both of them are wondering what they should do now – should they help Max or not? They remained silent for some seconds and finally made up their minds.

Years ago, when they had been at their lowest, they had received help from Mr Corvus. Without him, they might not even be alive today. Since Mr Corvus asked for their help, then they will do it, even if it is life-threatening. Both brothers looked at each other, and they immediately understood each other’s thoughts and nodded.

"Max, the situation has changed; we needed to take drastic steps." Andrew broke the silence and said with a grave expression. freewebnσvel.cøm

Max, who was still shocked and didn’t know what to do, looked at the brothers with surprise.

Even after seeing the city enter lockdown... Even after realising the Blackthorn family was hunting him...

Neither of them had backed away. They were still willing to help.

This was unexpected, but he felt better knowing that he had help. He even felt his confidence return.

"Yes, I understand." He nodded, as it seemed it would be impossible to leave without battle. But when he looked at the number of soldiers stationed ahead, he knew it wouldn’t be easy.

And just as they were wondering from where they broke through, one of the coachmen from the caravan came to them.

Just then, one of the caravan’s coachmen hurried towards them.

"Young Master Max."

The man approached respectfully before stopping in front of the group.

Max frowned slightly. "What’s wrong?"

The coachman glanced around cautiously before lowering his voice. "Mr. Corvus anticipated that something like this might happen."

The three of them were immediately surprised.

"He left some items for you and for the two brothers. He said they might be useful if the situation became difficult."

"What items?" Max asked in astonishment. He was surprised and hadn’t expected Mr Corvus to think this far ahead.

Then he gestured towards the caravan. "Please follow me."

Without wasting any more time, the coachman led the three towards one of the cargo carts. It was the smallest cart, but it appeared nothing special.

"Please." The coachman said, and then the three quickly checked the item within the cart.

The cart was mostly empty, and within there were only three sets of ordinary armour. This made them confused as to what can these three ordinary armours can do. And they couldn’t but glance at the coachman, who mysteriously smiled, seeing their doubtful expression.

"They are indeed an ordinary set of armour, but what made them extraordinary are the markings on them."

"Markings?" Max Confused couldn’t understand what the coachman was trying to say, but both brothers besides him changed expression.

They seemed to show excited expressions and looked at armour like they were some peerless beauty.

Seeing Max’s confused expression, Andrew explained, "Although the armour was made from ordinary materials, with markings, it became magical items."

"As for markings, they are called ’spirit markings’ carved by the mysterious spiritual awakeners, giving this ordinary armour extraordinary power."

"Yes, as Mr. Andrew said, these three armours have spiritual markings that, after activated, can increase your speed by 100% for a minute." The coachman explained.

Hearing this, he was surprised, as this spiritual marking is extraordinary. How mysterious the spiritual awakeners would be. It seems Mr Corvus’s words were right; he needed to be very careful if he ever met a spiritual awakener.

"But there is a limitation," the coachman continued.

"These are one-time-use items."

"The moment the Spirit Markings are activated, they will gradually burn away. After one minute, the markings will disappear completely, and the armour will become ordinary armour once again."

His expression became serious.

"So choose the timing carefully."

"Use them only when it matters most." The three nodded. They understood even though it would be used for a minute, that minute can be a game-changer when used in a dire state at the right moment.

The three nodded and started to gear up. In addition to the Spirit-Marked armor, they each equipped helmets. For Max it didn’t matter, but for the two brothers it was important to hide their identity.

Openly opposing the Blackthorn family could have severe consequences.

Max also chose a spear as a weapon, as it had long reach, so it would be better for a novice like him.
