Chapter 9: Lockdown

"Fuck you, moron. Because of you, lowly peasant, my life is in danger." Captain Mark continued to curse.

He immediately turned toward his soldiers. "Find those three men! Track everywhere they went! Maybe they’ll lead us to clues about the boy!"

"Yes, Captain!"

He then didn’t even look back at the gang leader as he threw him like a rag doll, not caring whether he would survive or not.

Within fifteen minutes, they quickly found where the three thugs were last seen, and then they searched every bit of area without leaving a single inch.

And in just a few minutes they found the three, though it wasn’t in the condition they expected. They were quickly found, three in a corner alley dumped like some garbage. Captain Mark quickly came to learn about that and finally met the three, changing his expression.

None of them were capable of answering questions. Calling them alive would already be generous.

Two were completely unconscious and were in a coma; it is not known if they ever awake.

Only one remained awake.

Herold.

And he wasn’t conscious because he had escaped lightly. freewebnoveℓ.com

No—It was because someone had deliberately left him alive to experience despair, as almost every bone in his body was broken.

"Who did this to you? And where is the kid you were asked to keep an eye on?" Captain Mark quickly asked.

But Herold’s condition was too bad; even speaking was difficult as he barely remained conscious.

"Damn it," he cursed but took out a small bottle filled with red liquid.

"Consider yourself lucky, trash." His face twitched with pain as he uncorked the bottle and forced it into Herold’s mouth.

The moment the red liquid went down Herold’s mouth instantly, like a miracle, his body started to heal. His shattered bones rapidly started to heal, and his pale, swollen face quickly returned to normal.

Herold couldn’t believe what just happened; in just a moment he went from not being able to move an inch to returning to normal. It was a miracle.

Before he could process and feel excited, Mark grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the ground. "Trash, I wasted a priceless potion for you; quickly tell me where the kid is." Captain Mark didn’t care about Herold’s excitement; he wanted answers.

The aura from Captain Mark was terrifying, and Herold almost shit his pants. He knew if he quickly didn’t answer, then he would die. He just got better; how can he die just like that?

"I... I don’t know; he beat us and then left." He quickly answered.

"Tch, then what... wait, you’re saying that the kid beat you three?" Mark asked, as from what he knew Max was a weak and helpless guy.

"Hm, yes. He seems to have suddenly changed and become terrifyingly strong and..." Herold hesitated for a moment.

"And what?" Mark’s grip tightened.

"And... his aura felt similar to yours, my lord."

"What! Are you sure?" Hearing this, Mark’s eyes sharpened, as it would change things completely.

"Yes, I am pretty sure; that terrifying inhumane suppression I would never forget." Herold answered with assurance.

Mark let go of his hand and started to think and couldn’t help but become serious, as if what Herold said were true; it means Max might have awakened his bloodline. And if that happened, things might become very troublesome.

If he awakened a bloodline, it would be difficult for ordinary soldiers to catch him, even more so not knowing what kind of bloodline he awakened. It would be alright if it were a simple bloodline with a boost in strength or speed, but if it were some tricky bloodline that could make him invisible or hide, making it difficult to track or find, then it would be bad.

He didn’t have much time, as family leaders ordered him to bring Max before evening; otherwise, his head would be rolled.

"Damn, could it be because the family leader knew Max had the potential to awaken a bloodline, so he told them to keep an eye."

"Quickly notify everyone to be careful and send news back to the family to send elite soldiers and lockdown the entire city; nobody should leave the city."

The surrounding men stiffened.

They understood the seriousness of the order.

Mark also knew that requesting elite soldiers would expose his mistake to the family head. But that no longer mattered. If Max truly had awakened...

Ordinary soldiers would be useless.

Only by finding him quickly would Mark have any chance of surviving this disaster.

On the other side, Max and the caravan finally appeared at the last checkpoint of Black Iron City. The entry or exit gate was enormous, made of massive stones.

To someone from Earth, such a structure would seem impossible without advanced machinery.

But after witnessing bloodline powers and supernatural abilities, Max wasn’t surprised anymore.

Max looked around, as the security here was much tighter, and there was quite a crowd entering and exiting the city every moment. Their group didn’t draw any attention, as there was more than one caravan like that.

But Max quickly noticed the atmosphere was a bit heavy as the soldiers were checking every caravan extra thoroughly.

Andrew and Mathew, along with others in the caravan, also noticed this and were a bit surprised. Both brothers felt something was very wrong, and then they glanced at Max, whose expression had become serious.

The brothers approached him quietly.

Understanding that they wanted to speak privately, Max nodded and followed them to a less crowded corner.

After ensuring nobody was listening, Andrew spoke. "The sudden changes at the checkpoint..." His eyes remained fixed on Max.

"They have something to do with you, don’t they?" The atmosphere instantly became tense.

Max’s expression didn’t change as he expected this question. Now that it came to its final moments naturally, he wasn’t going to hide, and frankly, looking at the current situation, he needed the help of these two brothers.

"I didn’t know exactly, but it is possible to do something to do with me."

As they were talking, they noticed the chaos at the gate and had to stop their conversation.

Dozens of soldiers rushed forward and formed a barricade across the entrance.

The entire checkpoint fell silent.

Then a captain stepped forward. His amplified voice echoed across the area.

"From this moment onward, Black Iron City is under lockdown!"

The crowd erupted into confusion. The captain’s next words caused everyone’s expression to change.

"Nobody will leave."

"Nobody will enter."

"Until we find the person we are searching for."
