Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Willow Quincy Strikes
At 3 p.m., Felix Preston and Evan Yates each drove a car from the studio, heading to North Aethelburg for a business meeting.
Along the way, the two Mercedes drove in a tight, single-file line. But halfway there, several black cars suddenly sped up from behind and aggressively cut in between the two Mercedes.
SKREEE—
Felix Preston slammed on the brakes, narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision with the car in front.
Once the car ahead had pulled away, he slowly pressed the accelerator while calling Evan Yates.
"Hello? Preston, what’s wrong?"
Evan Yates had no idea what was happening. The loud, high-energy music in his car blasted one track after another.
Felix Preston’s brow was tightly furrowed. He drove cautiously while keeping an eye on the situation behind him.
"A few black cars cut in on us. Our cars have been separated. Pay attention to your surroundings. Be careful, they might be up to no good."
Hearing this, Evan Yates immediately rolled down his window and looked to the side.
"...Holy shit!"
He hadn’t noticed before, but one look was all it took for Evan Yates to realize his car was already surrounded by them.
"Preston, there’s no need to be careful—they’re definitely up to no good!" As he spoke, Evan Yates locked eyes with the driver of one of the black cars. The driver’s face was grim, his gaze full of malice.
Evan Yates knew in an instant that he and Felix Preston were in deep trouble.
"Preston, you be careful. I’m calling our guys now."
Felix Preston: "Okay."
VROOOM—
Before Evan Yates could make the call, the black cars surrounding him suddenly gunned their engines.
"Fuck!"
He cried out in alarm and frantically slammed on the accelerator, pulling ahead just in time to avoid being rammed.
"Call Sean Wyatt!!!"
He didn’t have a free hand to search for the number, so he just shouted at the car’s voice command system.
RING... RING... RING...
After a few rings, Sean Wyatt’s voice came through the car’s speakers.
"Hey! Mr. Yates!"
Sean Wyatt only said three words, but his tone was several times more frantic than Evan’s. Evan immediately sensed something was wrong and quickly asked, "Sean, what’s your situation?! Are you with Preston?"
Sean Wyatt: "We can’t! We’ve all been boxed in! The cars are completely stuck!"
"Shit!" Evan Yates slammed his fist on the steering wheel in anger. "Call the cops! Don’t waste any more time with them!"
With that, he hung up and quickly called Felix Preston again.
Two more gray cars had wedged themselves in front of Felix Preston’s vehicle. He and Evan Yates were now completely cut off from each other, unable to even see the other’s car.
"Preston! These guys were sent by Willow Quincy!"
The moment the call connected, Evan Yates blurted out his conclusion: "Willow Quincy is a madman! Don’t fight him, just call sister-in-law! Only she can handle him!"
Felix Preston gripped the steering wheel tightly, his voice low. "I know. I’m calling her now."
"Mr. Quincy, what are you drawing? It’s so beautiful."
In the office, Sonia Quincy was focused on designing jewelry elements for Julia Dawson.
"Camellias." She pulled up a photo of the flower from her album to show Julia Dawson. "I saw your wedding dress fitting photos, and my first thought was that your overall aura is a perfect match for the White Camellia. So I thought I’d use it as the main design theme and see if it solves your problem."
"I think it will." Julia Dawson looked at Sonia Quincy with adoration. "Just looking at your design sketch makes me feel so at ease. Mr. Quincy, you’re the only one who can design jewelry that I’m truly happy with."
Sonia Quincy: "I’ll sketch some more. You can decide if you like it after I’m done."
Julia Dawson: "Okay!"
Mina Jennings had gone to a meeting, leaving only Sonia Quincy and Julia Dawson in the office.
Sonia Quincy’s phone was on a nearby table. The screen lit up and went dark, over and over, but she remained completely oblivious.
Felix Preston kept trying to call her, but it wouldn’t go through. Finally, he had no choice but to give up and dial an unfamiliar number instead.
RING... RING... RING...
After three rings, the owner of the number answered the call.
Felix Preston had no time for introductions; he stated his purpose in a single sentence.
"What?"
The person on the other end was completely bewildered, having no idea what Felix Preston meant, but Felix was out of time to explain.
Because Willow Quincy’s car was already crashing into him...
By the time Sonia Quincy finished her work and finally remembered to look for her phone, an hour had passed.
"Your phone is over here." Mina Jennings came in from outside with a glass of juice, grabbing the phone from the table and handing it to her.
"Thanks." Sonia Quincy took the phone and woke the screen, only to see more than twenty missed calls glaringly filling the display.
But the calls were from only two people: one was Felix Preston, and the other was Jasper Linden.
"Pregnant women shouldn’t drink coffee, so I had my assistant buy some fruit and make you a glass of fresh-squeezed juice." Mina Jennings placed the juice next to Sonia Quincy’s hand and said with a smile, "Try it."
"..."
Sonia Quincy’s mind was in turmoil; she hadn’t heard a single word Mina Jennings said.
The hand holding her phone began to tremble uncontrollably. Her heart skipped a beat, then suddenly started pounding, THUMP-THUMP-THUMPING so hard her entire chest ached.
Her face deathly pale, she scrambled up from the sofa in a panic and ran out, looking completely lost.
She ran so recklessly that her heavy body slammed right into Mina Jennings’s arm, knocking the glass of juice from Mina’s hand.
CRASH—
Shards of glass flew everywhere, and the orange-yellow juice splashed messily all over the floor.
"Mr. Quincy?!" Julia Dawson jumped up from the sofa, startled.
"Sonia?" Mina Jennings ignored the mess on the floor. She ran a few steps, caught up, and grabbed Sonia Quincy’s arm, asking with a frown, "Sonia, what’s wrong with you?"
"..." Sonia Quincy couldn’t speak. She violently shook off Mina Jennings’s grip and ran out while trying to call Felix Preston back.
Just as she reached the door, a tall man burst in from outside, nearly colliding with her.
Sonia Quincy instinctively shielded her stomach, then looked up—
"Jasper Linden?"
"Are you Sonia Quincy?" Sonia was wearing a mask, so Jasper Linden didn’t recognize her at first.
Sonia Quincy raised a hand and tore off her mask, tilting her pale, bewildered face up to look at Jasper Linden.
"How did you find me here? Did Felix Preston send you?"
"Yes!" Jasper Linden’s expression was grim. "Come with me first. I’ll take you to him."
He didn’t have time to stand there explaining, so he grabbed Sonia Quincy’s arm to pull her along.
"Wait." Sonia Quincy stopped him. She stood stunned and helpless for two seconds, then suddenly spun around, rushed to Mina Jennings’s desk, and snatched a small knife from it.
"Let’s go." With the knife in one hand and her phone in the other, she followed Jasper Linden out of the studio, radiating a cold fury.
