Chapter 403: Chapter 403: If It Were You, Would You Get a Divorce?
"Mom, what’s wrong?"
Looking at her daughter’s clear gaze, Su Yun quickly said, "Oh, it’s nothing, it’s nothing. You should get some rest."
Qin Jiao nodded and turned to go back to her room.
Shen Yi’s room was almost tidy. The only issue was that the heated brick bed wasn’t fit to be slept on. Taking the initiative, Shen Yi had already carried his own bedding over to Qin Jiao’s room.
He had already showered and was wearing a set of long underwear, leaning against the bedding as he flipped through a book.
Qin Jiao was speechless. ’He’s gotten quite good at this, hasn’t he?’
She went to the wardrobe to get her clothes, saying as she did, "We should get a couple of big German shepherds for the house. My mom said she’d ask someone at the factory. Do you know where to buy dogs?"
"As for buying dogs, we can just have Beidou handle it. He has his ways." Shen Yi watched Qin Jiao’s back and said, "Jiao Jiao, are you still upset about your relatives?"
Qin Jiao held the clothes she was going to change into and replied, "Upset is too strong a word. They’re not that important. I’m just curious, how can someone be so brainless?"
’A brain is such a wonderful thing. Did Grandma and Grandpa forget to give my youngest uncle one when he was born?’
’Oh, and my oldest uncle, too.’
To be honest, and speaking objectively, all three sons that her grandparents had were a little problematic. But in comparison, Qin Jiao felt her own father was the best of the lot; he was just a bit of a pushover at times.
This only strengthened her resolve to keep her distance from those relatives back home from now on.
Qin Jiao sighed. "I wonder if Oldest Aunt will divorce Oldest Uncle."
Hearing the word "divorce," the tips of Shen Yi’s ears twitched. He asked tentatively, "If it were you, would you get a divorce?"
"Of course." Qin Jiao’s tone was a little cold, but her assessment was brutally objective. "My oldest uncle is the kind of person who could walk straight into a brick wall and still blame the wall for being in the wrong place. Even though my oldest aunt gave him countless chances, he never cherished any of them. A man like that deserves to be abandoned!"
Shen Yi’s heart pounded in his chest as he listened. He suspected that in their previous life, Jiao Jiao had probably given him countless chances, too. But unfortunately, it seemed he hadn’t cherished any of them.
Qin Jiao was also a little tired today. She yawned and said, "I’m going to take a shower."
"Oh, need any help?" Shen Yi replied instinctively.
Qin Jiao: "..."
Their eyes met. Shen Yi’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he realized what he’d just said. He feigned composure and clarified, "I mean, the light in the bathroom isn’t working very well. Go check it out. If you need help, just call me."
Qin Jiao suddenly felt this topic was best dropped—it would only get more awkward. She nodded and turned to leave.
Alone in the room, Shen Yi punched his pillow in frustration.
’How could I have just blurted that out?’
Over in the bathroom, Qin Jiao made a point to lock the door while she showered. It wasn’t that she thought Shen Yi was that classless, but... deep down, she had the mind of an adult, so she couldn’t help but let her thoughts wander.
The tips of her ears began to burn.
’No, I can’t think about this. I still have so much to learn and so much to do. Thinking too much about men right now will only slow down my progress!’
So, Qin Jiao quickly forced herself to calm down and took her shower. When she came out, Shen Yi offered to dry her hair, but she flatly refused.
After busying herself for a while longer, it was time for bed. The moment Qin Jiao entered her space, she suddenly shivered.
’Why does the space feel colder than usual?’
She instinctively came back out, deciding to take another blanket inside with her. Shen Yi, dressed in navy long underwear, was already tucked into his bedding. He asked, "Jiao Jiao, what’s wrong?"
