Chapter 7: Episode 007: Affection Gained.
"The whole place is damp."
Rue grumbled as she wrapped herself in the fur blanket. It was very big and consumed her whole body, even when she stretched. She had taken note of everything in the cave. The architecture was similar to Earth’s, so she didn’t have a hard time accommodating herself to the place.
Apart from the entrance that needed a door, the smell and wetness of the place. There was nothing else she noticed; the ventilation from outside was enough, and if she wanted sunlight, there was a small hole that allowed sunlight inside.
The kitchen was never used.
One stone pot, and an empty shelf. She wanted to cook something, but there was nothing to cook, and she was so hungry.
As if right on cue, her stomach grumbled, and she groaned.
"Is he never going to come back?" She whined to herself as she stared at the entrance again. She was anticipating his arrival more than her need to find food.
Only his home was safe for her, and she had come to acknowledge that.
She had managed to pick up a book on his shelf and take it to the stone bed. Thanks to the system and her knowledge of the beastworld, she was able to read the book.
She was halfway into the book when a slithering sound caught her attention. She put down the book and found that he had returned.
He stood by the door, with a sack and some boxes in hand.
"I didn’t wish to disturb your reading. Do you feel comfortable now?" He smoothly asked, as he carefully placed the sack and boxes on the table closest to the bed, without breaking eye contact with her.
She didn’t shrink back, nor did she evade his gaze. She bit her inner cheek and figured out what to say.
Maybe just respond for now?
"I feel much more comfortable after a proper rest. I am sorry for yesterday." She whispered in a small voice. Caius was only lucky that he had a good knack for hearing small sounds.
Even with a clear head, I still find him very attractive. Is it because I am with his child now?
She avoided looking at his chest again, and just hearing her thoughts, Caius’s cheeks pinkened, and he huffed out angrily, because this was not a small convenience but a large one. He totally forgot to tell Tanith about this, and now here he was again, invading her privacy.
"What did you bring back home? I am very hungry." She started sniffing into the bag he dropped for any goodies he might have found. Her eyes lit up immediately, and her nose picked up on something. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
The base of Caius’s tail slapped happily against the floor, as he immediately opened the bag for her and brought out all the stuff he bought for her.
He had to do some research on rabbits so that he could carefully handpick the ones that were good for her. One by one, he carefully removed the items from a pack of carrots, lettuce, tomato, broccoli, cucumber, plantain, basil, strawberries, mango, papaya, blueberries, raspberries, apple and hay, lots of hay.
One sniff at the hay, and Rue pulled her nose away.
"What the fuck is that?" She sneezed as she recoiled from the smell of it. Caius frowned. Hay was very good for rabbits; they enjoyed it.
Oh fuck, I think I’m gonna puke.
"Don’t puke!" He shouted as if in cue with what she said, and Rue tossed him a look, one that said, what do you mean? He quickly hid the bag of hay behind his back.
"Take the others, I will throw the hay away. I read from the book that Rabbits love hay, and that was why I had to get them in such large quantities." His voice was thick and rumbly, and Rue almost felt guilty, but she couldn’t stand the smell, so she just nodded.
"Please burn it..." she whined, with her head hung low.
A soft look from her sent an arrow to his heart. He was going to keep her. Nowhere in hell was he going to alert the Rabbit tribe.
Once he left to obey her, Rue freely dug in.
"A Strawberry!"
Munch
"Blueberry~"
Munch
"Damn, it’s so sweet, all of them are melting in my mouth, I never thought I would taste these fruits again."
"Apple!"
Munch
"Argh, all the taste bouncing on my tongue, I can’t!"
She was going crazy as she knelt on the floor, digging into the fruits and ignoring the vegetables. Fruits were her weakness, no matter what life she found herself in.
When Caius returned, he froze in place as he watched her get soaked all over from the fruit. Her hands were stained from the strawberry, her mouth was painted red, and some were even getting in her hair, and she didn’t care.
This was the first time he was seeing this joyous version of her.
She was like the moon at night, shining in its full glory. Her smile caused his expression to twitch, warmth bloomed in his chest, and he placed his hands there as he felt his heart race for her.
She is but an innocent little bunny.
When her eyes landed on him, instead of shying away or hiding her beautiful smile behind her dead expression, she beckoned for him.
"Come here, Cai! This strawberry is so delicious." She sang out for him, and without even thinking, he slithered forward towards her.
"Say Ah~" She instructed, and his jaws fell apart.
She placed a bulbous object into his mouth, and she chuckled, her eyes crinkling at the movement. The stars in her eyes were gleaming, and he couldn’t take his eyes off.
Oh my, he is so cute taking that strawberry!
He groaned. He had heard that.
"Now chew~ Like a good boy. Is that how they say it?" She patted the side of his face, and he slammed his jaws down and began to chew. The sour-sweet taste descended on his tongue like an arrow, and his expression contorted.
Goosebumps burst across his skin, and he recoiled from her as he gagged out the berry she put on his tongue.
"What in the name of the heavens was that?!" He roared!
The happy expression on her face was snuffed out immediately, her dead expression returning in full swing. She recoiled from him, looking at her hands in shock, as if the person who smiled and chuckled bubbly was not her.
She then looked back at him coldly.
"Relax, it’s just a strawberry." Even her voice changed.
Gosh, how am I meant to raise the affection of this beast when he can’t even welcome me properly... It was just a strawberry... What even got into me to behave like that?
I don’t deserve his affection.
Caius caught himself in his actions to burn the taste of the strawberry out of his tongue and looked at her, his eyes drooping low, a guilty look in their depths.
That’s not true...
He wanted to say something, but she dragged the veggies to the kitchen, not giving him any attention.
