Chapter 35: Chapter 35. Lured.
Aiden went through the list of high difficulty level missions.
He was aiming for one where he could kill a lot so that he could have access to a lot of blood essence.
Eventually, he came across one that caught his attention.
[Mission description:
The Alchemy Association branch on campus is in need of Solar Herculean Herbs for their alchemical purposes. The solar Herculean Herbs can be found somewhere in rank 1 region of the danger zone.
Clue: It can be located in arid places.
Task: Identify and pluck 100 Solar Herculean Herbs and return with them.
Mission difficulty level: High (Possible death)
Reward: 7000 contribution points]
"This will do. I can complete the mission and hunt for creatures in the danger zone at the same time," Aiden thought.
He left campus.
Aiden decided to walk, instead of taking a cab.
He had his reasons. He wanted to bait the assassins sent after him into an alleyway and get rid of them.
"20 intermediate rank 1 warriors. It would have been risky to deal with them under normal circumstances. But not when they can’t see me," Aiden thought.
He had noticed them following him.
The moment he stepped out of campus, his eyes turned crimson. He started scanning the place.
He was walking by the sidewalk. Snowflakes drifted from the skies.
A couple walked past him, giggling and holding hands.
Car horns blared, neon lights flickered. Billboards displayed ads.
The twin moons were out. But the high humidity had dimmed their light.
Aiden kept walking, hands in his pocket.
The assassins followed from a distance, which in their opinion, should not have made it possible for someone like Aiden to notice them. Unfortunately, they had underestimated him.
"Boss," one of the assassins whispered to Leah. "I assumed this guy was headed into the danger zone for a mission. That way, it would have been easier to get rid of him."
"Don’t worry," Leah replied. "Whether or not he’s headed to the danger zone means little to us. So what if someone sees us killing him? I did a background check on him. His parents are just middle class businessmen. They are not even warriors. So he does not have any influential background. If we kill him, it will just be treated as an unfortunate occurrence. This is how the world works."
"Yeah. As a matter of fact, he has disowned his parents," someone said.
"Whatever," Leah said. "Hourglass said we should not underestimate him. So, when we find a suitable opportunity, launch all your attacks at the same time. We will kill him in one strike and leave."
Aiden listened as he walked.
He even ordered some hot dogs from a trailer and enjoyed himself.
"So, they were sent by Hourglass. It seems TreeHill thinks Hourglass can handle me, so he didn’t send anyone after me," Aiden thought.
"It should be time to deal with them. Since they want to be generous enough to leave their blood essence for me, I should not reject their goodwill."
Aiden entered an alley. The buildings cast shadows on the ground, since there was no light in the alley.
The moment Aiden arrived there, he activated his advanced rank 1 invisibility bracelet.
He became completely invisible.
He was waiting for the assassins to appear.
The twenty intermediate rank 1 assassins appeared in the alley eventually.
"Where the hell is he?" Leah said. "Shit, we lost hi—"
Before she could finish talking, a crimson bladed chain cleaved through her neck.
Her head rolled. Blood splurged from her headless body.
An expression of shock and fear was on the face of the head separated from the body.
The nineteen remaining assassins realised what had happened.
"The crimson bladed chain... where did it go to?"
"Should you be asking yourself that now? It’s Aiden Vhorn. The crimson chain. It’s most likely his doing. He has some blood related affinity!"
"Where’s he, I can’t see him anywhere!"
"Shit, run... he’s like a ghost or something. If we can’t see him, how can we kill him! This bastard knew we were following him all along. He lured us here!"
"Damnit. My boyfriend was supposed to break my virginity tonight. Why did I have to come here and die!"
The group of assassins used their affinities to maneuver the atmosphere aerially, bolstering their speed to abnormal heights.
However, it was futile.
"No need to be so hasty to leave."
Aiden’s casual voice reverberated in the alley. But he was nowhere to be found.
A crimson bladed chain appeared again. The crimson bladed chain sliced through the air as it gleamed with crimson light.
It sliced through bodies with the efficiency of a grim reaper.
"It’s as if he’s predicting all our movem—"
"Please... spare us... we will never—"
"Augggrrhhh."
Each time the crimson bladed chain moved, death followed. It sliced through battlesuits and flesh without any resistance.
Heads rolled. Blood splurged. Bodies fell.
Terror written on faces.
The crimson bladed chain danced with lethal efficiency.
In a couple of moments, several corpses lay in the alley. The noises had ceased.
Not even a single assassin managed to escape.
They were all dead. Shock, fear and terror were written on the faces of the heads separated a few moments away from their bodies.
Aiden deactivated the invisibility bracelet.
His figure appeared. His crimson chain turned into blobs of blood and returned into him.
He absorbed the blood essence of the corpses.
He felt a strong surge in his being.
"Let’s not leave any traces behind. Don’t know the kind of backgrounds some of them had."
Aiden put the corpses in his storage bag.
"I could even use these corpses to bait some chaotic beasts when I arrive in the danger zone."
After that, he left the alley, hands in his pocket.
Aiden ordered a cab.
Eventually, the cab arrived.
"Where to, sir?" the driver asked.
"Derulo City’s danger zone, please," Aiden replied politely.
"Oh... this madam is also headed there. Hop in," the driver said.
Aiden nodded and sat in the car.
"Mr. Vhorn," Desmonda, clad in a t-shirt, jeans and black sneakers, said with a smile. "Pleasure to finally meet you."
"Desmonda Creed. She’s either heading to the danger zone to train or she’s also on a mission."
"Pleasure as well, Miss Creed," Aiden replied.
"Mm. Are you headed there for a mission?" Desmonda replied.
"Yeah," Aiden replied.
"Me as well," Desmonda said. "All the best."
"Same," Aiden replied.
After that, the car was silent. Each person sat on their side in comfortable silence, doing their own thing.
Eventually, the car arrived before the danger zone.
Desmonda nodded politely to Aiden after she paid her fare. After that, she headed towards the entrance into the danger zone, was checked, and allowed entry.
Aiden also paid his fare.
He stepped out of the vehicle. "Thanks for the ride."
"Most welcome, sir," the driver replied and drove off.
Aiden proceeded towards the entrance.
"Oh, it’s you again," the two personnel he had met the first time he came here said.
"No need for a check. We already know you are a registered warrior. Stay safe," the man said.
"Alright," Aiden nodded and went through the entrance. He passed the fortress, then arrived at the entrance of the danger zone.
