Chapter 21: Chapter 21. Turn of Tables
The flame Berserker buffalos shot towards Aiden.
Aiden ran towards them.
Each step they took caused the ground to quake.
Flames shot out of their figures already blazing with flames towards him.
Aiden evaded the flames with uncanny precision.
He leaped up, spun through the air and appeared in their midst.
Then he attacked.
His fists moved, smashing through one body after another.
The creatures were not idle either.
Their flame covered bodies smashed into Aiden. But he was as sturdy as a wall. The crimson creature was untouchable. The strong suit of the flame Beserker Buffalos was their defense, something they were very proud of as a result of their tough scaled skin. But Aiden left them flabbergasted.
Aiden did not care what they thought.
He attacked. Gauntlet tore through scales, then into skin, then into organs. The creatures attacked with everything they had.
Initially, they could at least hand hits.
Flame arrows. Shields. Blades. But Aiden’s movements were getting smoother, fluid, practiced, instinctive, deadlier.
The flame Berserker buffalos started falling with each strike of Aiden.
His crimson gauntlets reaped lives with each strike.
And when each creature fell, he would absorb their blood essence, fueling his power.
This was what made him deadly. The ability to evolve through battle. The more dangerous the battlefield, the more powerful he could become.
Aiden was calm, focused. He was like a machine.
If anyone saw him, they would be shocked. Extremely shocked. His level of combat adaptation was unheard of.
Crimson gauntlets tore through heads, pummeled scales, spilled out innards, and claimed lives.
Thud...
Thud...
Thud...
Eventually, only the crimson armored warrior stood.
Surrounding him were dead bodies. The waters had turned crimson. Aiden’s crimson gauntlets turned into blobs of blood and returned into him.
But the crimson armor remained.
"These creatures could not even damage my armor. And they are very good at defense. It seems my body is very sturdy, especially after being reinforced with my crimson armor. Coupled with my natural regeneration and ability to use blood attacks endlessly, I could become very dangerous in combat as I grow stronger," Aiden stated pragmatically. "Also, I don’t think any beginner rank 1 warrior is currently my opponent. Although my progress looks slow to me, considering all the blood essence I’ve been absorbing, it’s actually very fast. It’s not even been two weeks since my transformation. Now, I am this strong. How powerful will I be in just a year?"
Aiden smiled. Since he had already absorbed the blood essence of the creatures whenever each of them fell during the battle, he took out his storage bag, and put their dead bodies in it, and kept the storage bag away.
"30 more to go," Aiden thought.
Crimson wings formed from his blood and appeared on his back. This time, the wings were larger and broader.
Aiden flapped the wings as he flew up the waterfall towards the peak.
Eventually, he bypassed the river the waterfall fell from, and arrived on top of a mountain.
He had identified a lot of beginner rank 1 chaotic beasts here after scanning the perimeter.
When Aiden arrived, there were more flame Berserker buffalos here.
This time, Aiden decided to hone himself in long range combat.
His blood transformed into two crimson chains.
The edges of the crimson chains bled into crimson blades.
The buffalos felt a threat pulsing from him.
Instead of attacking, they fled down the mountain.
"How the tables have turned," Aiden smiled.
The crimson wings turned into his blood and disappeared into him.
He shot towards the buffalos descending down the mountain.
He swung one of the chains. It cleaved through the air with lethal precision. Eventually, it sank into the skull of one of the buffalos. Aiden propelled himself towards the creature. His figure arced through the air gracefully. He landed on top of the creature before it fell and died.
The chains danced. Their blades sliced through bodies effortlessly.
It was a massacre. The creatures screamed and bellowed. They were terrified. What kind of creature had they encountered?
Body parts were flying all over the place. In the midst of this chaos, was Aiden, absorbing the blood essence of each creature that fell, fueling his power.
Eventually, the chaos ceased. The twin moons illuminated the mountain.
The blade edges of Aiden’s crimson bladed chains dripped with the blood of the dead creatures. The mountain slope was littered with the blood of the fallen creatures.
Aiden stood in the midst of the carnage, calm, quiet.
"It seems I have overcompleted the mission. Perhaps I will get more contribution points for this?" Aiden thought.
The beginner rank 1 chaotic beasts he had just slaughtered were 40 in number.
Coupled with the 20 he had slaughtered earlier, he now had 60. The mission required him to return with 50 corpses.
He would negotiate with the mission hall for additional contribution points before he added the additional ten corpses.
Since he had already absorbed their blood essence during the battle, he put all the corpses in his storage bag and put the storage bag away. His crimson bladed chains turned into blobs of blood and transformed into crimson wings on his back.
Just when he was about to leave the rank 1 region of the danger zone and head back to the entrance, he heard a loud scream.
"This is not good," Aiden thought.
He flapped his wings and fled.
Something wanted revenge. An intermediate rank 1 creature. A very large flame berserker buffalo.
The creature followed after Aiden.
Aiden did not fly too high. There were aerial creatures flying across the skies too.
A fire ball shot towards Aiden’s figure.
Aiden evaded the fireball.
The creature was catching up.
It was too fast.
Aiden’s crimson eyes gleamed with calculation.
"I need to lose this bastard."
Aiden turned towards another direction.
The creature, maddened at the loss of its kin, followed their killer.
It launched one flame attack after another towards Aiden.
Aiden evaded most of the attacks. But the aftereffects of a few that grazed past him penetrated through his crimson armor and burnt his body. His regeneration kicked in, restoring him to peak health.
He flew between trees, using the creature’s massive size to his advantage. The trees became slight obstacles for the creature, slowing down its movements for a while and disorienting it.
However, it would eventually crush through them and destroy them with brute force, leaving devastation in its wake.
It stared at the retreating back of the crimson creature, then followed.
Aiden eventually arrived above the waterfall.
He pretended to have reached a dead end.
The buffalo’s eyes revealed a cold light.
Its killing intent was palpable. It clearly wanted to stomp Aiden into shreds.
Eventually, the flame covered creature arrived close to Aiden.
It dove towards him with its head.
Then Aiden flapped his wings upwards.
The creature fell down towards the waterfall. It screamed in defiance. But it still fell.
Aiden stared at his legs.
"Shit." Inasmuch as he managed to deal with the creature with this plan, it was still too fast. Had he been a second late to dodge it, he would have died.
His legs were burnt completely. Aiden gritted his teeth. His regeneration had kicked in.
Eventually, his legs were back to normal.
He flew back to the entrance.
When he was at the military outpost, his crimson armor and wings transformed into blobs of blood and returned into him.
He took out a pair of shoes from his storage bag and wore it.
As for his clothes, he was too tired to change them.
He tapped his academy watch. A holographic screen appeared before him. He checked the time.
"2 am huh. Let’s hope I’m not too late for this wilderness survival class." He arrived at the entrance that led out of the danger zone.
He nodded towards two soldiers who had replaced the one he had met earlier. Clearly, they were running shifts.
They nodded back politely.
Aiden ordered a private cab with his phone.
When it arrived, he sat in it.
The cab driver asked. "Where to, sir?"
"Derulo City University please."
