Chapter 99: Lady of the house (3)
"Am I missing something, Mari? Why did they run away so quickly when they saw me?" Aurora continued to watch the maids running down the halls, muttering something to each other before looking back at where she stood. She hadn’t met any of them yet to understand why they would run from her. "Did Vincent tell them not to talk to me?" She hoped that wasn’t the case.
"No, it just has to do with your relationship with Vincent. They aren’t sure what role you play in his life. Those two believe you will be the future of the house and wish to avoid you so that they won’t offend you or Vincent more importantly. Some of the workers here believe you were just a woman brought here for Vincent to, you know..." Mari trailed off, unable to repeat the words said by the workers in the house. If Vincent heard these things, they would be fired.
"I have to warn you that some of them will try to be nasty to you when Vincent is gone because they do not like that you are an outsider. You should tell Vincent when they do this-"
"No," Aurora rejected the idea. The last thing she needed Vincent to be worried about was her troubles with others here. She had to do something on her own. "It’s understandable for some to not like me when they are not used to outsiders. I will simply be myself and if they still have these same feelings for me, I won’t allow it to bother me."
"One word from Vincent and this will all stop," Mari assured her. It was better to get those who disliked Aurora without knowing her in order from the beginning before something bad happens. "You are not around the humans anymore and the tricks wolves pull can be cruel. People go to great lengths when something involves Vincent."
Aurora understood where Mari was coming from but for how much longer would Vincent have to threaten everyone to be nice to her? She preferred them to show their true faces to her instead of a smile forced upon their faces by Vincent. She could not depend on Vincent threatening everyone. It was like her relationship with Regina all over again where she had others protecting her constantly. "I want to handle this on my own and I promise if it becomes too difficult to handle, I will turn to Vincent for help."
Mari was reluctant to go along with Aurora’s plan but she was just a maid. It might break Aurora’s growing trust in her but Mari decided she’ll tell Vincent herself if Aurora won’t. "Okay," she agreed for now.
"I need to make a list of the things I want to accomplish. At the rate my life is going, the list will probably drop to the floor when I open it," said Aurora.
"Aurora!" Cherry’s familiar voice suddenly rang throughout the house.
"I didn’t know she was coming over today," Aurora hurried to the stairs so that she could greet the woman. "Hello Cherry," she greeted as she hurried down the stairs. Aurora was taken back by the number of dresses and other items being brought into Vincent’s home behind Cherry. "What is all of this?"
"Honey! I’ve missed your presence," Cherry beamed excited to have more time to speak with Aurora all alone now that the grumpy brute was gone. "Confirmation that you are one of a kind because I have personally brought the clothes here for you and the bill for Vincent. A shame he’s not here for me to watch his jaw drop but I’ll get over it. I must say I love the braid."
Aurora smiled and hugged Cherry, happy she got to see the woman again. "I have to give credit to Mari as she’s the one who did it. I didn’t know the clothes would need four men to bring them in," she said watching the man bring in stacks of dresses. There were more dresses than she’ll need for the entire year. freēwēbnovel.com
"Neither did I," Jane said walking through the front door of the home. She would like to say she was surprised but Cherry always had to be extra dramatic at times like this. "I thought you were bringing clothes Vincent bought for Aurora but it appears you are planning to open a store with all of these dresses. And why are there shoes when he only asked for dresses?"
"I swear Jane, you’re a harsh critic just like Vincent. No wonder the two of you get along so well. If you ask me nicely I can deliver your clothes to make your husband’s mouth drop to the floor. What do you say?" Offered Cherry. She had been itching to style Jane but the woman always pulled out a small knife and told her to back away.
"No."
"As expected of you, Jane. When will you ever change? We can’t allow people like Jane to ruin our fun Aurora. Look at you, all dressed up and taking charge of this house already. I’m making it my best interest to become besties with Vincent’s future wife. When I’m angry with him, I will come to you to have him put in his place. He’s like this around her finger," Cherry used her own fingers to show how hooked Vincent was when it came to Aurora.
Aurora could only smile coming to terms that everyone around her had predetermined her and Vincent would be together in the future. She hoped their hearts won’t break too much if it doesn’t happen. She might not be the best person when it came to relationships as she didn’t see how she had Vincent wrapped around her finger. The man said and did as he pleased to tease her every chance he got.
"I hear boys tease the girls they like because they’re too stupid to talk about what they’re feeling," Aurora remembered the words Regina told her a long time ago when one of the stable boys at the Hamilton home had kept picking on Aurora. ’Is Vincent the same?’ she wondered.
