Chapter 100: Lady of the house (4)

’I already know he likes me so the teasing is for his own entertainment,’ Aurora frowned, becoming lost in her own thoughts.

"How much money did Vincent spend on all of these clothes? If he keeps this rate up, he’ll start digging into his extra savings in no time," Jane stated, unamused by the number of clothes Cherry brought over for Aurora. She didn’t understand why one person would need what looked to be thirty new dresses when they already had enough dresses. "You’re really enjoying making Vincent have to pay for all of these."

"Yes but I’ve given him a pretty nice discount I normally don’t give to my customers. Just because you don’t enjoy dressing up in pretty clothes does not mean that every other woman should be the same. You have such a nice frame and it would be so fun for me to doll you up. I don’t know why Vincent picked out this awful guard uniform for you," Cherry covered her mouth turned off by the ugly green shirt and pants Jane wore.

"I picked these out myself," Jane replied but didn’t take offense to what Chery said. She wore these clothes because they were comfortable to fight in.

"See that makes more sense. Enough about Jane, I am here for you, Aurora. It’s bad enough you have to live with grumpy Vincent and now Jane is your bodyguard. It’s the main ingredient for boredom," Cherry grabbed both of Aurora’s hands feeling sorry for her living situation. "If you ever want to stop living here, my doors are wide open. It’ll give me a bonus point for stealing you away from Vincent."

"It feels like you are always trying to pull a fast one over Vincent. First, making him pay for this insane amount of dresses and now stealing me away," Aurora was curious about the history of Cherry and Vincent’s friendship. If she had to pick among strangers who were friends with each other, she wouldn’t have put Vincent and Cherry together.

"For the majority of our childhood, he has always been better than everyone else at everything without having to break a sweat. Vincent always spoke about how easy it was to outsmart us and it got on my nerves. Therefore, if the opportunity arises, I try to outsmart him. In this scenario, I got an early bonus for this year and I’m making you like me over him. Right?"

"I don’t know..." Aurora trailed off, not wanting to choose between anyone.

Jane sighed, folding her arms to mentally prepare herself for the next few hours with someone like Cherry. Jane bet the woman’s personality would scare Aurora in no time. "Cherry, don’t you have work to do today? Who is running your shop while you are away?"

"It’s closed for the day. Now, Aurora, tell me, how are you feeling so far? Has Vincent been treating you wonderfully? Are the people here nice to you? If they aren’t, I can fix that for you right away. I can be pretty scary when I want to be."

"He has been treating me well and the people here are nice." Technically, the workers who might dislike her hadn’t done anything bad to her for her to talk badly about them.

"That doesn’t seem to be right because of how Mari is frowning. Before you arrived, Vincent made it clear that no one should offend you. If the workers aren’t treating you well, please speak up because they have disobeyed their orders. Give me the names of those who have offended you," said Jane. The workers here had one simple order to be kind to Aurora and it would be foolish for them to openly treat the girl badly.

If there was a chance the workers weren’t being nice to her, Vincent should make an example by firing one of them. Vincent had been a kind boss to all of them so for them to disobey such a request was disrespectful.

Aurora didn’t like they were on this topic when she had just told Mari she’ll deal with the situation herself. "I don’t have any names to give Vincent. I am alright."

"If you don’t tell him about the problem now, it’ll just pile up and become a bigger mess for him later. He’s busy these days so we can make his life much simpler if you tell him what is wrong with you in the early days," Jane said as she knew Aurora was bound to find trouble and she hoped the girl wasn’t the type to hide things until they became bad.

"She said it’s fine Jane. Relax," Cherry tried to intervene. Jane was coming from a good place to avoid there being even more problems in the future but if Aurora said she was alright twice, they should be able to move on from this conversation by now. Cherry came here to have a girl chat with Aurora, not go in-depth about her relationship with the workers. Vincent is a man who sees and hears everything. He’ll know if someone is troubling Aurora before the girl could tell him.

"I don’t feel the need to run to Vincent with all of my problems. I can handle building a relationship with people who know nothing about me all on my own," Aurora replied, a little annoyed with the conversation. She wanted to change and be less dependent on others for the smallest things.

"If someone threatens my life, something that Vincent should know, I will tell him right away. But as you said he is busy these days and trying to fix my relationship with his workers should be the last thing he has to do. I have to take care of myself because there might be a day I have no one around to help me. If the task becomes overwhelming, then I will tell Vincent but on my own. Understood?" Aurora put her foot down to end the topic. "You are protective of Vincent and don’t want any more added to his plate but you have to give me the chance to stick up for myself."

"Very well," Jane agreed, looking forward to how Aurora planned to handle the situation herself. There was a fire in Aurora’s eyes just now and she hoped it remained that way.

Cherry clapped on Aurora’s victory over Jane. "Spoken like the true lady of the house."
