Chapter 86: Thorns (2)
"I have to make things right with Vincent before he completely misunderstands. I’m really not scared of him and I don’t want him to think that I am," Aurora hid her face wishing she could reverse time and make all of this go away. They had such a fun morning and now Vincent thought he caused her to have a nightmare.
"The two of you have to get ready for dinner and you’ll be all alone. Talk with him then." Seeing Aurora genuinely sorry for what happened, Mari sat down on the bed to cheer her up. "A lot of people refer to the other side of Vincent as a beast or a monster since no other wolf can become that but him. He’s the alpha and he protects us but some people can be harsh with how they speak of him. We might think those words don’t affect him because of his personality but he still has feelings."
Mari placed her hand on Aurora’s one to comfort her. "I can tell you are not scared of him or think of him as a monster but seeing the thorns and maybe you called his name, he’ll think you thought of him as a monster. If there’s anybody to make him feel better about what he is, it’s you. I personally don’t think those thorns had anything to do with Vincent."
"What do you think it means?" Aurora asked just to see what someone else thought since she had no ideas.
"You could be having an internal conflict with yourself. Maybe one side of you wants to remember your past and the other side wants to forget it. With the conflict, you created those thorns and called on Vincent because you remembered something. Or maybe it was just a barrier so that no one could disturb you while you started to remember your old self. You know, waking up as the old you."
"Wake up? It’s not the first time someone mentioned me waking up. I never thought about how Minnie and the others even made me forget about my life before. How did they know how to do such a thing?" Aurora now wondered. How did they know to erase her memories? Did her past life tell them that? However, it didn’t make any sense why she would do that. Why tell someone how to make you powerless?
"The only people I know that can wipe memories are witches because they use a spell. They also have a spell to make you remember things but it has to be a good witch or it will mess you up. A family I worked for hired a witch to make the son forget the bad experience he had outside of the gates but the spell wasn’t done right. Sometimes the boy remembers what happened so I don’t think the spell was effective." This made Mari rather not use a witch for a spell if it wasn’t going to work right and it helped she couldn’t afford one.
"A witch? You can’t just hire a witch in the human towns or the king will come to take you. However, it’s the only reasonable explanation for how they’ve done it each time but it doesn’t answer the question, how did they know to go to a witch? There’s too much I have to think about and it’s draining my body. First, I need to make Vincent feel much better," Aurora stated but she didn’t know what exactly to do to cheer him up.
Her head was starting to hurt and all she wanted to do was lay against her pillow but she was too scared she might fall asleep and something bad might happen.
"A kiss on the cheek might make him forget everything," Mari half-joked. With the way Vincent had been keeping an eye on Aurora, a kiss might truly wipe away the events of tonight. "Please don’t get offended by me saying this but do you think you’ll love Vincent in the future? I really want Vincent to find someone who loves him. I’ve seen many claim to love him but they really just love what he offers. And those that really love him, their family members don’t have good intentions."
"I don’t know if Vincent and I will ever be like that in the future and I don’t want to force myself to be with someone just because everyone thinks we should be together. That’s kind of the reason we haven’t spoken about our past relations because he knows it’s awkward for me and I’m grateful he hasn’t tried to force me to remember past feelings."
"Well, you don’t know what the future holds right? If it’s meant to be it’ll happen. I will go prepare your bath," Mari said, getting off the bed to go to the bathroom. She would bet her next payment that Aurora and Vincent will end up together again.
Aurora didn’t reply and thought about the thorns she previously had in her room. She rubbed her thumb against the palm of her hand still in disbelief that she could make such a thing happen. Why was it her ability to grow plants when Artemis was a moon goddess? Was it only because she loved flowers? freёweɓnovel.com
Aurora liked to believe that thorns prevented someone from quickly stealing the flower and inflicting wounds against the thief. The thorns she made could have been a sign of protection. Protecting her from the world outside or protecting the outside world from her. Or maybe it was her own version of a cocoon, like the caterpillars do before they change into a butterfly and Vincent had broken it open too soon.
"Next time, I shouldn’t be woken up. I won’t know why it happened unless I go all the way through with it next time," Aurora agreed. What she needed to do now was tell Vincent to let her continue to sleep the next time it happened.
"Your bath is ready Aurora," Mari said standing by the doorway of her bathroom.
"Thank you," Aurora replied standing up to follow Mari to the bathroom but she gasped and covered her mouth when she saw someone that looked identical to her standing beside Mari.
