Chapter 85: Thorns (1)
It came upon the time for the sun to set and Aurora had slept much later than she intended to. Vincent stood outside her door contemplating if he should allow her to keep sleeping because she was more tired than she thought she was or to wake her up to let her eat dinner. He had already postponed dinner thirty minutes later than it was supposed to start. She had to be hungry by now even if her growling stomach hadn’t woken her up.
Deciding it was best for her to get something to eat, shower, and then go back to bed, Vincent was about to knock on her door but Mari arrived at the same time.
"Would you like me to get her for you, Vincent?" Mari asked when she saw him by the door. She had just returned back to help Aurora prepare for dinner and thought she was late but a worker informed her dinner would be served late today.
"Yes. It might be better you be the one to do it," Vincent backed off so that Mari could go in. "Wait, she needs to call your name," his voice died down after Mari pulled back her hand from being zapped by something when she opened the door. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"What on earth," she muttered looking inside the room. What happened while she was away from work?
"I forgot that witches placed a spell on the door so that no one can enter unless Aurora calls their name. Please keep this a secret. Does your hand hurt really bad?" He asked and tried to check her hand because of Mari’s shocked expression while staring at Aurora’s door.
"Why are there so many thorns in her room and why are they so large?" She pointed inside Aurora’s room.
Vincent now noticed the large thorns Mari was referring to. The room was covered with them hiding Aurora on the inside from anyone on the outside. Had she remembered something? Or was she this skilled the entire time but was fooling him? "Aurora!" He called to her in case she was in danger. Why else would she surround herself with thorns?
"Aurora!" He called again after no response. Frustrated, Vincent tried to bang his fist against the spell on her door but was surprised when his hand went through without feeling anything. The spell was clearly working because Mari was stopped by it and Vincent himself could not make the witch’s spell ineffective. Aurora must’ve called his name. "Aurora!" Vincent yelled carefully, navigating through the large thorns.
Some of the thorns dug into his skin when he wasn’t careful enough and because he kept going, the thorns tore open his skin. However, Vincent was only focused on helping Aurora so he didn’t feel the pain of his skin opening. He had to break one final wall of thorns with his fists and once he did, Vincent found Aurora fast asleep on the bed.
"How did..." Vincent trailed off confused by how he was able to enter if she was sleeping. Had she called his name in her sleep? The only thing she could be having right now to make thorns appear in her room was a nightmare and he was in it. The thought that he might’ve been the cause of her nightmare wounded him deeper than all the thorns in her room that pierced him. "Wake up Aurora."
"Aurora, you need to wake up," he gently shook her shoulders to snap out of whatever she was experiencing in her dreams.
Aurora sat upright, releasing a scream at the top of her lungs. Vincent didn’t miss how dull her eyes looked like life was drained from her but then they returned bright again. When she calmed down, she was surprised by the sight of thorns slowly disappearing but what surprised her, even more, was the sight of Vincent partially covered in blood and wounds. Vincent ignored her questions and checked on how she was feeling first. He looked for any signs of wounds on her body and luckily, there weren’t any. "Were you having a nightmare?" He didn’t touch her just in case he was the reason behind her bad dreams.
Aurora had no idea whether she had a nightmare. She didn’t remember anything aside from going to sleep after thinking about Samuel and Regina. She woke up to the sight of thorns pointing down her and a wounded Vincent on her bed. "I don’t know. I don’t remember anything. I couldn’t have done that on purpose."
"The witches put a spell on your door but I was able to enter. You called my name even if you don’t remember. I might be the reason you put up thorns in the room. Do I scare you? Is it my other appearance you don’t like?" He knew he shouldn’t have shown her that other side of him.
"I don’t know. I don’t remember what caused any of this but please don’t think it had anything to do with you," she didn’t want him to misunderstand when they both did not have a clue what happened. "Maybe I was subconsciously calling out for you to help me and you did. I am not scared of you Vincent. If you think it has something to do with me running away from you the first time, you have to remember I didn’t know who or what you were."
"I understand. Call in for Mari to help you get ready for dinner," Vincent stood up walking away from the bed now that the thorns were gone. He was started to get blood on her bed and he needed a smoke to calm his nerves after this.
"Vincent, please don’t leave when you are still misunderstanding this," Aurora sighed when he didn’t stop to talk to her. She understood why he would think he was the cause of this. "What on earth just happened? What was I dreaming of?"
Where did the thorns even come from? She only practiced making plants in front of her grow larger but she didn’t have anything with thorns inside her room. How did she make them magically appear and disappear?
"Mari, you can come in now," she called out to the young girl. Mari must also be terrified after seeing what she did.
"That’s pretty cool what you did there Aurora. I never saw anyone here do that before. How did you do it?" Mari eagerly entered the room and sat down on the bed beside Aurora. She wanted to see Aurora do it again.
"I am not certain but something bad happened when I fell asleep," Aurora muttered more confused than ever.
