Chapter 77: Motivation (3)
Peter felt as if someone stabbed him right in the heart. Here he was thinking of Derek as a hero but the man was only looking out for himself. "But-"
"If you stay around long enough, we might be able to become friends but I swear if I end up having to go out of my way to bury you, I’ll piss on your dead body and send it to your mother instead. Understood?" Derek smiled innocently. He hoped this little bonding experience with the gardener will pay off in the end. "Go have fun with Aurora."
Peter gulped, running off to help Aurora. He wasn’t sure if Vincent or Derek scared him more. Was it really necessary for Derek to do all of this to avoid doing work? Wasn’t Derek being a hypocrite right now? How could he lecture Peter about not working when he did all of this to not do his job in the future? Peter thought of bringing this up to Derek but any man working for Vincent was not one to argue with.
"They grow up so fast," Derek happily muttered watching Peter and Aurora starting to get along. He turned around to go back upstairs to Vincent but when his eyes fell on the window he previously stood to look down at the garden, Vincent was there watching him. "Oh my!" He grabbed his chest because the sudden sight of Vincent scared him. Vincent didn’t look happy but when did he ever?
"Working for him is going to kill me. Should I start writing a letter to be sent to my wife?" Derek kept clutching his chest and took a deep breath as he went back to Vincent. "Would my wife kill Vincent for killing me?"
"I’d be doing her a favor by killing you," Vincent said from the top of the stairs.
Derek lost his balance because of this and screamed as he slid back down a few of the stairs. "Don’t do that Vincent. You know I’m not good with surprises."
"It’s clear who wears the pants in your marriage. I should fire you and give your wife this job. You won’t have to worry about me being the one killing you," Vincent returned to his office. Sometimes, Derek was lucky they were good friends and that his wife kept vouching for him or he would be fired by now.
"You’re right. The day I get fired Jane might kill me. You should’ve seen how she looked when I slept in one day. One single day like she didn’t keep me up that night," Derek cried practically dragging himself back up the stairs. He was someone who liked relaxing but married and worked for people who loved working too much.
Vincent didn’t bother to pay any attention to Derek when he crawled into the room. "It’s still a mystery how you and Jane fell in love and got married. She’s my most hardworking employee and you’re..." he trailed off thinking of the right words. "You’re alive at least." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Hey! When I put a little effort into what I’m doing, I end up at the top amongst my peers. I just don’t like working for countless hours. You’re going to make Aurora feel lonely in the future. Sometimes I lay in bed staring at the ceiling waiting for Jane to come to bed. Our sex is wonderful but there are nights I just want to cuddle with her."
"One, I don’t want to know anything about your sex life. Two, I would never make her feel lonely. Three, why the hell are you laying down on my floor?" Vincent smacked a book shut in his palm and turned to find Derek enjoying the floor.
"You would think that she isn’t lonely but workaholics don’t realize what they are doing. One time, I hid the key to Jane’s office to stop her from working but she just broke the door down instead of looking for the key," Derek sulked remembering it all too well. "Now that there haven’t been too many vampire attacks it has gotten better. As a married man, should I give you some advice?"
Vincent sat down on his couch and felt the urge to throw something at Derek. How did Jane honestly deal with this man? "You just told me troubles of your bedroom life and you think I want advice from you?"
"Ah but you’re not married."
"She was taken hostage by the Hamiltons. You know that. How on earth was I supposed to marry her? I should really fire you right now and who told you to give the gardener advice?" Even if Vincent and Derek were the last two people alive in this world, Vincent would never take advice from him. "I advise you to get up off my floor before you dirty it."
"Fine, fine. Talking to you is like talking to my mother-in-law. I’m considering switching homes to get far away from Jane’smother. You should be glad Aurora doesn’t have a mother. Why does the woman keep trying to shove her input into our marriage? She keeps talking about grandchildren and doesn’t realize how uncomfortable it makes Jane. Doesn’t she think we have been trying to have children?" Derek got off the floor and sat a little too close to Vincent on the couch.
Vincent used his foot to push Derek to the other end of the couch. "There was another chair right beside you and why are you telling me all of your business? Do I look like a doctor? The woman probably regrets marrying you to her daughter. Jane had a lot of male attention on her before you two announced your relationship. I thought you must’ve blackmailed her at first but then I realized she’s the better fighter and there was no way you could blackmail her."
Derek stared at Vincent in disbelief since he was supposed to be his friend. "With friends like you, who needs enemies? Jane and I fell in love quickly and though we are polar opposites, there’s no one else I could ever love more than her. She completes me but I might kill her mother if she tries to tell me how to make love to my wife one more time. Trust me, I’m quite skilled-"
"Finish that sentence and I’ll throw you out the window."
