Chapter 73: Never try to deceive me (3)

"What did you do?" She was suspicious of Samuel when he wouldn’t look at her. This couldn’t have been a coincidence that Minnie wanted to see her and now Samuel was apologizing for something. Since he refused to answer her, Regina did not wait around for him much longer.

She was confident about any time Minnie would call on her but now Samuel’s apology made her nervous. Was he apologizing for accusing her, betraying her, or for something that would happen soon? Why couldn’t he just clarify what he was apologizing for instead of making her wonder?

Regina took a deep as she followed the maid to Minnie’s room. It was best not to overthink this and walk into the room showing fear. The moment Minnie saw her sweating, she would figure out she had lied.

"The moment of truth," she whispered entering Minnie’s bedroom alone without the maid which meant it was a super private conversation. "You called for me Minnie?" ƒrēewebnovel.com

What she saw in Minnie’s room was different from what she was used to. Minnie’s age was starting to show most likely from the stress of not being able to find Aurora but yet, her appearance was neat as usual. Minnie just couldn’t hide her lack of sleep.

"Take a seat, Regina. We’re going to have an interesting chat," Minnie took a sip of her warm tea watching Regina’s every movement. She didn’t believe Regina did not have anything to do with Aurora getting away. Had her granddaughter seriously forgotten how well she knew her? When Regina was seated, Minnie placed the teacup to one side and said, "We haven’t found Aurora yet. Not here in the town nor in any town nearby. Don’t you think it’s odd how fast she just disappeared?"

"It means she has been planning this out carefully. I hope she’s safe wherever she is. I was just telling Samuel she lived a sheltered life and she might not survive the cruel world."

Minnie clicked her tongue, "Exactly. That is why it made sense for her to stay here. Let’s not play any games, Regina. I know she told you something about herself. Something of why she’s different from everyone else. You two have been snooping around the house, haven’t you? You know the reason behind her sudden change in behavior and that is why you became even more hostile these days. Am I right?"

"Wrong. I became annoyed she kept trying to prank me about a werewolf talking to her in her dreams. I haven’t forgotten you could be killed for talking about things that don’t exist. Even though her joke upset me, it was the way you and my mother were treating her that made me hostile. Why am I being interrogated when I have told you I have nothing to do with her getting away? Go questioned Samuel." Regina wanted to laugh at the lack of blame towards Samuel. Wasn’t he supposed to be the best fighter amongst his pairs but he could be knocked out so easily?

"Samuel understands that family comes first but you still have a lot to learn. I used to admire the fire you have inside to protect the people you care about. It reminded me of myself when I was young and dumb. I find your attitude and behavior to be rude now. Tell me where she is right now Regina and maybe I’ll change your fate." Minnie picked back up the teacup and partially hid a smirk behind it.

"There’s nothing new I can say when I have already told you the truth. I wasn’t the one who helped her getaway. Is there a possibility that she got someone else to help her that is outside of our family? You can’t find her and I hardly have any knowledge about helping someone sneak by the people you have tracking her down. I want Aurora back here because the world out there is dangerous."

"I don’t believe you," Minnie said once more. Aurora and Regina were too close for her to believe this. Though she had been once close to Aurora like Regina and had turned against her friend, Regina was the only lead she had to find Aurora so she was never going to believe her. "If I remember correctly, you were jealous of the attention Seth gave to her? Afraid she’ll always be picked over you deep down? I have fixed that for you."

"What do you mean?" Regina asked suspicious of what was happening here. She hoped they weren’t planning to set her up with Seth.

"We have been on a hunt for your future husband and I have been collecting a good amount of men to choose from-"

"It’s not up to you to decide who I want to marry-"

"Silence!" Minnie exclaimed having had enough of Regina and her disobedience. She regretted not taking control of raising Regina and Samuel. Rachel was clearly not fit for the job with the way Regina was turning out. Luckily, she got a hold of Samuel to drive some common sense into his head. Regina would be harder but Minnie knew she’ll eventually break the girl.

Regina folded her lips to refrain from speaking and clenched her fists.

"I have been critical enough along with your father and brother to select men who will be helpful to our business in the future. Because of your disobedience, I have at the last second considered a candidate we have been on the fence about. Gilbert has been asking for a new wife-"

Regina stood up refusing to accept Gilbert as a future husband. "I will never get married to that man. He has already been married around four times and is probably older than my own father. I do not deserve to be with someone like him!"

Minnie had lost her mind if she thought Regina was going to humor the idea of being with the merchant Gilbert. She stayed clear of him every time he visited at home because he was a creep. He was known to marry girls who could be his daughter’s age.

"A pretty price to pay for trying to deceive me," Minnie smiled.
