Chapter 63: Tour (1)
"Aurora," Vincent said, knocking on her door. He listened to her pacing back and forth behind the door until she made the decision to open it. He noticed she wasn’t sad nor crying about the situation which was good. It was nothing to cry over. "Don’t pay Abel any mind. He is not in the best shape to be talking about how anyone looks. I can fire him today if you want."
"You can’t just fire your workers because I have a small issue with them. I’ll get over it, eventually. And you’re right. Forgive me for saying this but I don’t understand how men like that can tell women no one would want them. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. I hope you are not expecting me to act like the women here. I don’t want to follow rules like that anymore. I won’t be rude but I don’t want anyone having a guideline on how I’m supposed to look or act anymore," she panted after letting out what she felt.
It felt good to say what she wanted without being immediately scolded. Vincent was just standing there with a smile on his face.
"It’s not rude. A lot of times, you need to put others in their place so that they know they can’t walk all over you. There’s no one in my house who can tell you what you need to be. Just be you. Abel seemed to think you were just a woman I brought here to use and that the treatment I asked for was an illusion. I assure you, he will be on his best behavior. I know you said you aren’t hungry but I can hear your stomach talking to you." He held out the plate of breakfast for her to take.
Aurora wanted to smack herself in the face for embarrassing herself in front of him again. Was that some kind of power he had? To bring out her embarrassing moments?
"Thank you," she mumbled, taking the food out of his hands. "Are you going back down to eat? You didn’t bring any food for yourself," Aurora said after noticing his empty hands.
"Maybe you can feed me," Vincent replied, opening his mouth.
Aurora was confused about what to do now. It was such a simple request but her mind was running wild with other thoughts. "I-"
"I’m just teasing you, Aurora. You look like you’re about to pass out," Vincent chuckled, causing her to look away. "We will leave in an hour for a tour. This area can be a little cold this time of the year so you might need to pack a coat just in case. Also, I know you cover your hair a lot. You don’t have to do that here."
"How has the king not found this place yet or where the vampires reside?" Aurora questioned as all she ever heard was the king had been killing anything that wasn’t normal. How were the wolves living so peacefully here?
"The kingdom is a lot bigger than you think and there are a lot of places the king cannot enter no matter how many swords he points to it. The creatures he has been killing are loners who were exiled from their homes and have little protection. That foolish king is good at pretending and fooling the people who follow him. None of them know how he truly is but as he becomes more power-hungry, they will all see the truth."
"I see," Aurora whispered.
"Take your time and eat. I will send Mari to get you when it is time to leave. Goodbye for now," Vincent said, going back down to eat his breakfast.
Aurora silently watched his retreating figure then closed the door when he was gone. "He’s not a bad person," she said to herself. She sat on the bed and stared at the food he had brought her. Aurora took up the fork with some of the eggs and placed it into her mouth. "Abel is a brute but he can cook." ƒreewebɳovel.com
The first thing she needed to get for her stay here was something to block off Vincent from hearing what she was saying in her room. She brought the stick the witches had given her but she did not want to waste it yet. She was hoping the town here carried an item she could use. After all, the wolves here wouldn’t want others eavesdropping on their business. Or maybe they loved knowing everyone’s business?
Aurora continued to silently eat in the comfort of her room and when she was done, she placed the empty plate on her desk and waited around for it to be time to go on the tour.
After looking around her room, reading some of the pages of the book she found in the room behind the closet, and dozing off for a while, Mari had finally knocked on the door. Aurora jumped up with excitement ready for her tour with Vincent. She opened the door expecting to see Mari but it was Vincent again.
"Oh," she said, surprised.
Vincent placed his hand on his chest pretending to be hurt by her lack of excitement to see him. "Should I just leave and call Mari back? I sent her home for a while since we’ll be together but you’re killing me with how disappointed you look right now." freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"That’s not it," she waved her hands around trying to stop the misunderstanding. How could he not understand how anyone would be surprised with him suddenly standing before them? He was a very handsome man as he said and she found herself not knowing how to react to his presence. However, she wasn’t going to tell him that to embarrass herself any further. "It’s something else. We should go if you want to show me a lot of places."
She then ran towards the stairs to escape having to tell him.
Vincent placed his hands on his hip and looked down at the floor before looking back at Aurora running away from him. If only she knew how much he enjoyed a chase.
