Chapter 287: Moving on (2)
"How can a community of werewolves have so many problems and why does the alpha have to fix petty arguments?" Victor threw the paper back onto Vincent’s desk. "I can never complain about Vincent being grumpy ever again. Dealing with this daily would drive me insane. Why the hell are you here? Don’t you have a wife and kids to be with?"
"They’re having a girl’s night which means I have to be elsewhere. What better place to be than here watching you have a mental breakdown?" Derek popped a grape in his mouth.
Victor glared at the annoying man laying in the chair. "You are aware my brother will kill you when he finds out you have your muddy shoes on his chair? After taking part in creating the new walls I would expect you to be somewhere sleeping instead of pestering me."
"Vincent won’t kill me if he has no evidence my shoes were on the chair," said Derek.
"I will tell him!"
Derek placed another grape in his mouth, unbothered by Victor’s words. "You think that after Vincent and Aurora are done with the problems they want to come back here and listen to anyone’s problems? Vincent will be more interested in hunching your sister-in-law-Ow! What the fuck!"
"There are some things I don’t want to hear when it comes to my brother and that is one of them. I will throw another book if you bring that up or tell Jane about what you said. I would rather it be Cherry keeping me company," Victor sighed. "Our relationship is finally going somewhere but I am stuck here doing work."
"If I weren’t here and Cherry came to visit, you wouldn’t be doing any of the work Vincent left for you to do. I’m here to keep you on track. One, because your brother hates slackers, and two, he hates when people have sex in his office. That’s why Jane and I never did anything here."
Victor stared at Derek not convinced that was the reason why. "If you are planning to stay here tonight, I am returning to my home to get some sleep. When Vincent returns I need to have a serious talk about the nonsense people send him. There’s no reason why an alpha should have to break up relationship issues."
"You’re right. Vincent is busy as he is so instead of those things going to him, they should go to you. Before you complain about it, think of all the years you left Vincent alone to hold the burden of leading us while still mourning the loss of his parents and then the one woman he loved disappearing from his side. Not saying you’re a terrible brother but you should start helping without complaining," Derek offered Victor advice.
"What on earth do you know," Victor muttered.
Derek sat up from lying down. "What do I know? You were hardly around therefore I was the one to aid your brother with whatever he needed but he had no time to do it on his own. My wife also had to help your brother so much that I hardly got to spend time with her. So yes, I do know a lot. I know that you weren’t around for your brother as much as you should-"
"Shut up!" Victor abruptly stood up."Shut up before I throw you out a window."
"Hell no! Think I would be scared of you because you’re a Lawerence? Come again little boy," Derek stood up to challenge Victor. "I dealt with your brother who is stronger than you daily. You don’t have the strength to throw me out a window. I was only offering you advice to not complain when Vincent returns and to help him more. What’s so bad about that?" freēwēbnovel.com
Victor gritted his teeth, unable to argue with Derek any further because it was the truth. After he and Vincent started to live in separate homes, he wasn’t around as much for Vincent to ask for help. And as the older brother, Vincent decided to rely on others rather than making his younger brother take on the responsibility that Vincent himself did not want in the first place.
It must also have been a slap in the face that Victor was around the man Vincent believed had a hand in their parent’s death. He hardly did anything for Vincent but yet, Vincent was never upset. If he was, he never showed that he was to Victor.
"Fuck," Victor sat back down. "You’re right. I shouldn’t complain when Vincent has left me here to do this while he is gone. I’ll have the letters that are not important sent to me in the future. I will deal with the important matters and give Vincent a break. It would let him be able to spend more time with Aurora in the future. He deserves it."
"Now that we have gotten this out of the way, let us go back to your flipping through papers and me eating grapes while I lay down-"
"Victor!"
"What is it? You are from the gates," Victor narrowed his eyes as she realized this guard should not be here. "What is it?"
"Vampires were spotted north of the main gates. We charged to attack but they quickly ran away after leaving something addressed to the Lawerence family. You should see this for yourself," said the guard. freёwebnovel.com
Victor quickly got up from his seat as a visit from vampires was never a good thing. He wondered if they got wind of Vincent not around and now they were playing games before they would attack.
Derek was right behind Victor to see what had been left behind for the Lawrence family.
"Uncle?" Victor stopped walking as soon as he reached the front door and looked outside. "They returned him," he muttered.
Graham was covered in bruises and blood like he had been tortured. Judging from the fact no heartbeat could be heard and the bruises were not healing, his uncle was dead.
"They returned him to show what they did to someone from a family of alphas," Victor said, knowing the vampires took pride in this.
