Chapter 234: Warmth (3)
The ride back to Regina’s home had been surprisingly pleasant since Regina was no longer upset with Timothy and everything was cleared up. For Regina, this was merely the calm before the storm.
She was returning to a family who loved status and the man entertaining her could have been a king. Minnie, Rachel, and Samuel will no doubt irritate her.
"My offer to stay at my home still stands," Timothy said, breaking the silence as they sat looking at the entrance of the Hamilton home.
"Once again I will refuse since there does not need to be a scandal so early in our relationship. Did I say those words give you a rise?" Regina decided to tease him.
Timothy patted his lap and said, "Come here and find out."
"I’m going to head out now," Regina opened her door to step outside.
"Am I mistaken or did you not just start that? A little advice, do not try to make any dirty jokes with me. I shall make you regret it," Timothy followed her out of the carriage.
Regina must be feeling embarrassed as she was in a rush and did not allow him to help her out. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"That’s because you are a pervert, Timothy."
"Maybe you are embarrassed as you wanted to sit on my lap but it would be out of character for you. I wouldn’t have told anyone about it. In fact, I would have made you enjoy it," Timothy said dangerously close to Regina after he caught up to her.
"Timothy!" Regina exclaimed. "Why does this side of you seem to be pouring out more often?"
"An enticing young woman is in front of me more often," Timothy admitted.
Regina felt her face heat up and luckily, Timothy was still behind her or he would have teased her. She knew she had to be blushing because of his words. She opted to remain silent to avoid him teasing her any further but this was just as bad as reacting.
"Have my words started to affect you, Regina? About time. I was starting to think you might not be attracted to me. Impossible right," Timothy touched her shoulder causing her to jump to the side.
Her reaction startled him at first but then he found it amusing. She was finally reacting to him.
Timothy took in the sight of her flustered and panting slightly. To think a little teasing got her like this he could only imagine what she would look like if he really tried to seduce her. "Regina-"
Regina ran away before she could hear whatever he was going to say. She did not need to listen to any more of his teasing. "I-I will see you later. Goodbye," she rushed to open the front door.
"Things are about to get interesting between us," Timothy said then retreated back to his carriage. As much as he would like to be a gentleman and walk Regina to her door, he was almost certain she would die of embarrassment if he continued to follow her. "She will have to deal with her family alone."
Timothy wanted to help shield her from the questions her family would have but then again, they would have sent him away to have a private chat with Regina first. It was predictable they would try to convince her to marry him. He expected an invitation for dinner by tonight.
"That idiot," Regina commented as she looked back to see if Timothy was still following her. It was foolish of her to act in such a way in front of him, feeling up his ego.
Her younger self would be so furious to see what she had become.
’You can’t expect me to not react to a man like Timothy. He is charming even though he is annoying,’ she tried to make herself feel better for how she acted. ’Get a hold of yourself before you become like those girls with hearts in their eyes.’
"W-Wait," Regina almost fell when someone opened the front door she was holding onto without warning. "Are you trying to hurt me?" She asked Duncan.
Duncan ignored her words and looked out at Timothy’s carriage. Regions surprised him by getting with such a man. He thought her rebellious stage wouldn’t have lasted long as she depended on her family a lot but she was holding out for a while.
"Your family is waiting to have a word with you. I suggest you be quick to see them."
"Duncan, have I ever told you how much I hate you?" Regina asked as she couldn’t recall ever telling him.
"A few times before," Duncan didn’t care to count how many.
"Wonderful. Be sure to tell everyone that I am tired and wish to rest," Regina looked back at Timothy’s carriage once more before going inside.
"You are to speak with your-"
"Duncan, I get that you are Minnie’s little puppet but you are still the family butler and it is your job to report to the others that I do not wish to speak with them as I am tired. Being Minnie’s man does not mean you get to act as more than the butler," Regina fixed his shifted coat. "Much better."
"Was it you who made that rumor public?" Duncan could only place Regina as the one working with the paperman but he could not figure out how she would even know about his history with Minnie.
"Think Duncan. Around that time, I was always home and though I thought you were quite close to Minnie, I was not the one to tell the paperman. It must be someone else in the home that you both thought was loyal. It’s not like Minnie is a saint and has no enemies," Regina stated.
Minnie controlled a large portion of high society but behind her friend’s smiles were their dislike for Minnie. Anyone could have known about Minnie and Duncan for a long time. Why they chose to expose it now was the real mystery.
"It is hard to believe a word you say these days Regina," Duncan found her to be more sneaky as the days passed.
"I do not care," Regina replied then left the front door to go to her bedroom.
