Chapter 226: A moment of peace (3)
Regina was weirded out by Timothy’s confession. She hadn’t been that nice, maybe not nice at all, when they were growing up but he still came to love her this much? Was there something wrong with his head? After all the times she pushed him down, did she mess with his head?
"I know anyone else in my position would feel honored but I am seriously creeped out by how much you love me. Do boys normally like girls who are mean to them? Cause in that case I should have a long line of suitors at my door," Regina became mortified at the thought of it.
"I can’t speak for anyone else but I will say that how you treated me felt nice. Due to the wealth, my family has and our connections to the crown, people have always been overly nice to me. Like your problem for example." Timothy could always tell Samuel only stayed around him for his own benefit.
"I can’t argue with you there. My parents probably advised Samuel to stay close to you but I feel like that’s what all the boys here do. Just like how the girls stick with each other in the same class or higher. It’ll be beneficial in the future. I’ve experienced it before," said Regina.
Rachel had a list of young women already set up from a young age. Regina believed her mother made it from the moment of her birth.
"Did you like those people?" Timothy placed one leg over the other, a playful smile appearing on his lips.
Regina didn’t have to think twice about the answer. "No. Most of the people I like I found on my own and I was normally with Aurora most of the time. Everyone used to talk about her being the daughter of my father’s mistress so the number of people I liked became extremely small."
"Is she ever coming back?" Timothy was curious about the white hair girl he met from time to time. Regina would always push her away whenever he came around.
Maybe Regina thought it was Aurora he had feelings for but she was sadly mistaken.
"Who knows. She certainly won’t return as long as the others are alive," Regina replied but then quickly realized her mistake. She glanced at Timothy to see him highly amused. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"Your family was trying to harm her? Why might that be?" Questioned Timothy. He heard of many families killing illegitimate children.
"I never said that," Regina tried to deflect what she had just admitted.
"You hinted to it plus it would explain why you knocked your brother out. Did you hire that man to take her somewhere safe? Is Minnie looking for her? Never forget that I can get rid of all your problems."
Regina already knew that. Everyone was aware of the resources he had. "I feel like I would be making a deal with the devil." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"You wound me. As your future husband, what is mine shall belong to you and vice versa. Your problems, concerns, worries, happiness, and more will be shared by me. So, to be an excellent husband I will do whatever you need. Cross my heart," he promised.
"Hmm. I have to ask one thing Timothy, do you share the same beliefs as the king? You know, when it comes to creatures who are not like us. I am fascinated by those types of things but if others were to find out, they might look at you strangely for picking such a wife," Regina said merely to test the waters.
Timothy rolled his eyes hearing about such creatures. "Why would I waste my time as the king did worrying about those creatures? You might not be aware but the king lost his mind worrying too much about those who are not human. I simply do not care unless they are trying to kill me. They wouldn’t be much different than the humans trying to kill me."
"So you truly wouldn’t mind? Especially if I were to openly read books about it? I find the hidden history of our kingdom to be extremely fascinating. Maybe with the king dead, no offense," she added since the king was a relative of Timothy.
"None taken."
"With the king dead, we can learn about the secrets kept from us concerning such creatures. I mean, wouldn’t you wish to know about them? You never know if a vampire, werewolf, or even a witch was right next to you unless you read about them. Excuse me for becoming too excited about it," she said upon realizing she had leaned forward slightly as she spoke.
"Please continue. I am enjoying the way your eyes light up as you speak about this. I wish it was me being the reason for your expression but I’ll take it. Since I had entered the palace, I had been able to read many books on such creatures. It is good to know what type of creature is in front of you," Timothy stared at her eyes.
Regina felt a weird feeling from his last sentence and made a mental note of it. Though Timothy had more information on creatures, he had no clue that the Hamiltons were actually witches or her family would’ve been killed a long time ago. "Can I get any of the books you have?"
"Certainly but you would have to visit my home to the ones I took from the castle. Wouldn’t want your mother to see you with them and I can’t just hand those books over to anyone. It’s safer for you to visit me," Timothy grinned.
"Then I won’t need them," Regina replied much to Timothy’s dismay. She knew this was a ploy to get her to visit his home and she wasn’t going to fall for it. "As a woman who is not yet married, I will not be seen in your home but nice try."
"It couldn’t hurt to try it. I will find a way to send at least one to you. Maybe I can hide it under a mountain of dresses I could send you? That would certainly show others my interest in you."
"And then we’ll be on the front page of the paper. No thank you. For the first time in a while, I am enjoying a moment of peace. I can finally relax even if it is just for a short time. I didn’t realize how heavy my shoulders felt until now. Thank you," she looked out the window at the houses they were passing by.
Every other day she was arguing with a family member or trying to learn spells that would be useful in the future. In those days she rarely got a moment to stop and just clear her mind.
"I can keep the carriage driving around if you do not wish to get out and meet with other people," Timothy proposed. Regina looked at peace right now and he didn’t wish to ruin it.
"That would be wonderful. Everyone who knows the news will rush to your side with too many questions. I can only imagine that my mother will have a lot of visitors wondering about us being seen together. They will wonder if I am queen. I hope none of the court ministers show up at my home. That would be exhausting."
Regina wanted to avoid all talk about Timothy potentially becoming king and her, his queen. A witch should never sit on the Harlow throne that has always hated creatures like her.
"Tell them your decision quickly so that we can have those nosy people move on to the other person who would become queen. When you do that, I shall agree to become your wife again. I already have a lot to worry about." Regina started thinking of the future with her family.
"I will announce it by nightfall and by tomorrow, you and I should be engaged. However, there are one or maybe three problems you shall face at home. Your family will want you to convince me to become king. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to stay long enough to explain everything to them." Timothy needed to return to the palace to tell them he wasn’t going to be king.
He also needed to recommend another family member who would be better suited for the job.
"Trust me, the ability I have to ignore people is legendary. There is nothing you need to explain to them just as there is nothing in this world they could offer me to convince you to become king. For safety, send some of your men over to the home since I might end up strangling someone. Most likely Samuel."
Minnie was the most greedy member of her family but Samuel was the most desperate. After Minnie’s punishment, his simple brain might think Regina’s marriage to a future king could benefit him again. Samuel had amnesia when it came to remembering they were at odds with each other.
"I’m afraid my men might allow you to strangle him for a while and then pull you off but I will order them to refrain you from killing anyone."
Regina looked surprised he agreed to it so easily. "I was actually joking."
