Chapter 227: Werewolf (1)
"If the two of you run around and break something the big bad wolf won’t be too happy. Do you want him to haunt you in your dreams as he did mine?" Aurora sat down in a chair to relax after constantly running around behind the two children. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Tara and Abigail were most definitely different from how they were when Derek first brought them here. They were hyper, smiling more often, and looked happy. Maybe the effects of being in a positive home.
"Why did he haunt you?" Asked Tara. The smaller sibling loved hearing about wolves and other stories Derek told them.
"It’s kind of a long story that children don’t need to know but just trust me, Vincent can look even scarier than he does now."
"I love the way you describe me to the children. You would think as my partner your words would’ve been kinder," Vincent said as he walked in on Aurora and the children.
"As much as I might love you, you can get scarier than you are now. How did things at the trial? Did everything go smoothly or chaotic?" Aurora wanted to be there but someone had to be with the children. She was now fully energized and ready to be prod
"It went well for me but I am sure for the person being judged it was chaotic. Have you rested well?" Vincent kissed her forehead ignoring the looks of the two small humans.
Abigail and Tara saw it as the princess being kissed by the prince since that was what Derek described Vincent as.
"Stop showing such love in front of the children. They should only see Jane and I like that. Did you miss me, girls?" Derek got down on one knee and spread out his arms for the children to hug him.
"What the hell?" Derek muttered when he felt a breeze past him. He looked to his right where the children had run to Jane to hug her instead. "Hey! Don’t forget who saved you."
"You can’t hold that over their heads forever," Jane scolded her husband as she fixed Tara’s loose ribbon. A sign she had been running around. "Sorry to burden you with them, Aurora. Did they give trouble?"
"I wouldn’t say they were a burden. They were only acting as children would. Their energy certainly rubbed off on me. I don’t know how you deal with them constantly moving around." Aurora was tempted to create vines to tie the children up.
It might’ve been cruel but it would’ve solved the problem of them breaking Vincent’s things.
A heartbroken Derek got up from the floor and said, "You shouldn’t run around too much in someone’s home. Specifically Vincent’s home."
Vincent hummed in agreement. "I will only tolerate that when it comes to my children."
"The day you have children do not expect me to come around here. I do not wish to be near the spawns of the devil- I meant Vincent. Aurora, I shall pray for you," said Derek.
"What do you mean you won’t be here? Have you forgotten that you have a debt to be repaid concerning two little humans?" Vincent wouldn’t allow Derek to leave willing. There was no fun in that.
"What on earth do you mean? You didn’t help us that day at the trial. If anything, I am indebted to Aurora. Oh no," Derek’s eyes widened. Vincent wasn’t talking about debt to himself, he meant Aurora but there was no way she would be cruel enough to make him work with Vincent forever.
Aurora looked into Derek’s pleading eyes that were practically begging her to say he owed her nothing. "Honestly, I genuinely like the love-slash hate relationship you have with Vincent. It would be too boring here if you weren’t around Derek."
Derek sighed but knew this would eventually happen. Vincent’s cruelty had rubbed off on Aurora. "Honestly, you should not become like him," he pointed at Vincent.
Vincent swiftly grabbed Derek’s finger and bent it backward.
"How was the trial, Jane?" Aurora decided to ignore the childish men.
"It was interesting. Mari will have to work off trying to make things right in the community since she did attempt to harm Vincent, Cecilia will be stripped of her processions and made to reflect on her life until she could be released, and Mari’s parents will be imprisoned so her siblings will be given to a relative and their expenses taken care of by Vincent. There was a little uproar at the end," Jane recounted how angry the crowd was.
"Uproar?" Aurora was deeply confused as to why there would be an uproar. It wasn’t like Vincent was punishing innocent people and the punishments he gave to everyone today seemed more than generous.
"He told everyone we must go back to our roots as werewolves. We are becoming too much like humans and therefore we shall eventually become weaker," Jane said.
"That’s it?" Aurora still didn’t see why there would be an uproar. "I don’t see anything wrong with that. Do they wish to lose their werewolf side?"
"The problem lies with everyone growing accustomed to being lazy. What?" Derek asked when everyone looked at him in disbelief. "I am not lazy. Do you know how hard Vincent makes me work? Back to my point, we as a community do not hunt, gather around campfires, sleep under the stars, run around daily, maintain our strength, or even shift into a wolf on a regular basis."
"I haven’t shifted into a wolf in a long time," Jane started to realize her mistake. She did other things like fighting, training, and running around but the most important one she missed was her wolf side. "I suddenly feel the urge to run around freely as a wolf."
"Strangely, me too," Derek agreed.
"There will be a full moon tonight. It might be dangerous but you shouldn’t let fear keep you behind these walls forever. Gather as many people as possible and go for a run under the moonlight. The power the full moon will give you shall make you reconnect with the side you are losing," Aurora threw out a suggestion.
