Chapter 201: Poison (1)

Vincent watched quietly as the eye Minerva drew swirled around until there was a black image present on the wall. "Does that mean he is nowhere to be spied on?" freewёbnoνel.com

"Yes. When the person is near a window, glass, mirror, etc, the image of them will show up here. We normally advise our customers to get a strand of the person’s hair or some of their blood. These rings you brought won’t be enough to keep the spell working. You would have to call us again when it vanishes," Minerva explained.

"I will only be needing it for a short period of time but I will seek you out if I need anything else. Well done for once," he stood up to inspect what they had done.

"Thank you, Vincent," Minerva replied, making way for the man to see it was done right. "When can we expect the payment for the job?"

"You can have the gold right away but it will take some time for me to send someone out to collect the frogs. There were a few of them in the garden. Someone must be throwing them into my home."

"I can get rid of them for you," Agatha quickly said, running to the stairs to look for the garden.

"That fool," Minerva and Morgan.

"I apologize for my sister’s behavior in your home. She really wants frogs. Minerva, go check on her and make sure she does nothing stupid," Minerva nudged Morgan since her younger sister has nothing else to do.

"The two of you claim I am the immature one but I beg to differ. It’s going to be a task to put her away from the garden so don’t take so long," Morgan said, leaving the room to give Morgan some alone time.

"What do you want from me?" Vincent asked Minerva now that the other two sisters were gone.

"I have some information to sell-"

"I thought you don’t sell your customer’s information," Vincent turned to her revealing his claws were out. He wouldn’t hesitate to kill her if she would state what she hired him for to someone else. "It’s been a while since I killed someone. It’s been two days. They dared to kidnap my woman."

"Fools," Minerva awkwardly chuckled fearing for her life all of a sudden. She was never able to handle how Vincent would randomly bring up killing someone. "This information is coming from someone who is not really a customer of ours. We are doing the job as a favor."

"Very well. What is it?"

"That woman you have here, preparations are being made for her to be made to sleep again. This time it is supposed to last forever. Are you okay, Vincent? Your eyes look red. I have never seen a werewolf with red eyes," Minerva took a step back just to be safe from what was happening to Vincent.

Vincent felt a strange sensation in his chest the moment Minerva mentioned his eyes. His body strangely felt weak for the first time in his life like something was being drained from him. "Shit," he cursed, realizing what was happening.

"Do you need my help? Just to be clear we did not do this," Minerva held her hands up in defense. She wasn’t the type of witch to mess up her spells as Morgan would.

"It has nothing to do with you," Vincent muttered, grabbing hold of his chest when a pain built up there. His arm tingled and upon looking down he saw his body was changing into his alpha form. "Get out of here," he hissed.

Minerva didn’t need to be told twice about leaving. The alpha was not someone she liked to be around. It was more unpredictable than normal Vincent. She rushed to the stairs to get her sisters so they could all leave but before she could make it to the door a loud thud sound was heard behind her.

Looking back, Minerva saw Vincent had fallen to the floor of the library. "What on earth," she muttered, confused by the turn of events.

Instead of going to check on Vincent, Minerva left the room to look for one of Vincent’s workers for them to go check on him. She wasn’t going to risk checking on him herself and then he gets up in time to attack her. She wasn’t getting paid to see if anyone was alive or dead.

"Hey you there," she called out to Mari who happened to be going towards the library because of the noise. "Something seems to be wrong with Vincent but it wasn’t us. I’m going to get my sisters and leave but we will return for the payment soon. Goodbye."

Mari was confused by the witch’s appearance in Vincent’s library as Vincent had expressed his dislike for the women many times. She entered the library to see what happened to Vincent and true to the witch’s words, he was laying on the floor face down.

"Vincent!" She exclaimed running to his side to see what was wrong. Next to his side now, Mari rolled him over and found his body was trying to change but must have randomly stopped. "Vincent, what is..." her voice trailed off when she realized the opportunity presented to her.

Mari fished around in her pocket for a small bottle she had been carrying around for a while now. She never had the perfect moment to use what was kept in the bottle. "I’m sorry Vincent but I have a debt to pay," she apologized to the unconscious man.

Mari had always been grateful to Vincent for always trying to help her out but the reason she never tried to accept his help was because of a debt she needed to pay back. Mari always felt guilty when Vincent showed her kindness but she was forced to try and kill him.

Mari trembled in fear the day she was told she had to be the one to kill the alpha. Vincent was their protector, peacemaker, and leader. For her to do such a thing was unsettling. Still, Mari always thought of her family first and if she did not do this, something bad would happen to her family. Not even Vincent would be able to save them.

Mari took the cover off the bottle, opened Vincent’s mouth slightly, and poured the liquid down his throat. Something bad seemed to be happening to him already so what she gave him would send him off peacefully. Tears fell from her face as she fed Vincent the poison made from wolfbane.

One drop was deadly enough so an entire bottle would surely kill them.

Mari cried thinking of how she would have to explain this to Aurora. To learn that someone you trusted was the one to kill the person you love would be devastating. "I’m so sorry," Mari cried, pouring the last of the poison into Vincent’s mouth.

She listened to his heartbeat slowly become faint.

"Where is that brute after making me leave my home to come here?" She heard Derek’s voice coming from upstairs.

Mari quickly placed the cover back on the bottle and then hid the bottle back in her pocket. "In here," she yelled with a shaky voice.

"Why are you-Vincent?" Derek’s eyes became wide seeing Mari on the floor holding unto Vincent who wasn’t moving. "What happened to Vincent?" Derek quickly ran down the stairs switching to being serious. It wasn’t every day he saw Vincent laying unconscious in someone’s arms.

"I don’t know. When I arrived one of the witches told me there was something wrong with Vincent and when I came in I found him like this. What should I do?"

Derek mistook Mari’s tears of feeling guilty for her crying for being unable to help Vincent. "It’s okay. It’s going to be okay. We need to get him from down here and have a doctor visit him. Mari, you have to calm down," he said when the young woman started to shake.

"Mari, you have to calm down so that we can help him. Listen to me carefully. Run and get the doctor. Tell him he must be here as soon as possible-"

"I-I can’t hear his heartbeat," she hiccuped in between her tears. Her hands shook as it dawned on her what she had done.

"I know but if we don’t hurry we can’t save him. I’m begging you, Mari. Please bring the doctor here right away," Derek felt scared for his friend’s life but didn’t allow it to show. It wouldn’t help the situation if both of them couldn’t control their emotions. fгeewebnovёl.com

He always saw Vincent as untouchable to see him here like this was a heart-wrenching experience.

"I-I’ll get the doctor," Mari stood up from the floor. She did what the person requested of her and now, she wanted to save Vincent. Mari hurried upstairs leaving Derek to watch over Vincent even though she knew firsthand the chances of Vincent surviving were going to be slim.

"You idiot," Derek sniffed looking down at Vincent. "Did you call me here just to make me worry? Get the hell up before it’s too late. Tell me what the hell happened to you."
