Chapter 202: Poison (2)
Derek had somehow managed to place Vincent on his back to carry upstairs to put him in bed where he would be much more comfortable. Derek could no longer hear Vincent’s heartbeat but he refused to believe his friend was dead. It must have something to do with his alpha state.
Derek stood quietly with his hands on his hips thinking about all the reasons why Vincent would be in this state right now. Mari mentioned a witch but Derek didn’t see why Vincent would hire the three witches after they almost turned him into a goat. If they were responsible for this he was hunting them down.
"Where on earth is Aurora?" Derek sniffed the air for her scent but it wasn’t strong in the house. "It’s going to be hell to explain this to her."
"Derek! I brought the doctor..." Mari trailed off when she entered the room and saw Vincent laying on his bed with his face turning pale.
"Please see what is wrong with him quickly," Derek ignored all pleasantries and got straight to business.
The doctor placed a large bag on the bed beside Vincent. "It’s not unusual for a werewolf to be stuck in between their two forms. Does anyone know what happened before he became like this? That might be the answer on how to treat him."
"The witches aren’t here to explain," Mari spoke up.
"I see. His pupils are golden," the doctor said after lifting up Vincent’s eyelids. "Pale skin, low heartbeat-"
"You can still hear it?" Derek asked as he couldn’t hear Vincent’s heartbeat anymore.
"It’s faint but it’s there. My ears are excellent when it comes to this. I think I found a small problem. He consumed wolfbane," the doctor smelled it right away when he opened Vincent’s mouth to inspect.
"Wolfsbane? Who on earth would have wolfsbane in the community when it is so harmful to us? Vincent wouldn’t have carelessly eaten or drank something with wolfsbane inside of it. He always picked up on the smell. Has there been anything new used to cover the smell?" Asked Derek.
"Something strong enough for Vincent to not pick on the smell is not available to my understanding. If there is, it won’t be found here. You will be imprisoned for making a high dose of something with wolfsbane inside of it. I don’t have a solution for dealing with the wolfsbane. I am still experimenting with that. The only thing we can hope for is his body to fight it off. I’m sorry."
"I understand," Derek knew there were no cases of a werewolf surviving given wolfsbane or no doctor able to treat it. "I met him earlier. Between then and now, someone would have given it to him. He wouldn’t eat anything someone randomly hands him on the road so the person has to be in this house. Thank you, doctor. I will call you if I need you again."
"No problem. I will keep this a secret," said the doctor. He didn’t want to be involved in any of this if the alpha passed away. Many would come looking for him to gain information. He wasn’t one to gossip about his patients and preferred if no one sought him out with the purpose of paying him off.
"Thank you, doctor."
"Where is Aurora?" Mari asked when the doctor left the room. Her palms were becoming and she felt to inform Derek of what she had done but she feared the consequences. Maybe Derek would understand the position she was in. Borrowing money from powerful people and not being able to pay them back is practically a death sentence.
"I have no idea. Keep an eye out for when she returns. She has a thing with plants so she might be able to save Vincent. Please inform all the workers they are not allowed to leave. I will find the culprit today and if it is not any of the workers then it must be the witches. Go now," Ordered Derek. They needed to move quickly to avoid the person responsible getting away.
Mari became more concerned as she had not disposed of the bottle in her pocket as yet. Derek was going to know it was her either way if she did not place it somewhere it wouldn’t be traced back to her. Someone else might get blamed for it depending on where she placed it which would be unfortunate as she liked everyone here.
"Mari," Derek snapped his fingers when she hadn’t moved from her spot. He took it as the situation with Vincent getting to her. She might want to go home but she couldn’t go home until the suspect was found. Anyone could be guilty no matter how close you were to them. "Take a moment to clear your head after you have gathered everyone."
"Thank you," she said before leaving the bedroom.
When she was gone, Derek started to find it odd Mari had not called out for him when she found Vincent but he was going to give her the benefit of doubt. He took one look at Vincent asleep on the bed before following Mari to speak with all the workers."
Derek wanted to know what they were doing from the moment Vincent returned till now. Who they met with and what they spoke about. Derek visited the home many times to know what the daily routine of the workers was. Even one lie was not going to be tolerated.
Derek left the room, closing the door behind him so no one would disturb Vincent. By some miracle, he hoped the man would wake up now.
"Derek!" Aurora called to him when she saw him coming out of Vincent’s room with a sad expression.
"Aurora! Where have you been? Where does your hair have grass and twigs in it?" He asked, seeing the small things tangled up in her hair.
"I kind of passed out when I was going for a walk. I’ll explain it in a moment but I must speak with Vincent. He’s in there right?" Aurora started walking toward Vincent’s room but Derek placed a hand on her shoulder before she could enter.
"I don’t know what it is about you passing out but someone seemed to have given Vincent wolfsbane. His heartbeat is faint and he isn’t waking up. If there is anything you can do to save him, please try. I’m going to find the person responsible for the wolfsbane."
"Umm," Aurora replied, unsure how to explain what she was thinking to Derek. "I’ll try my best."
"I’ll be downstairs."
"What the hell happened while I went on a walk?" Aurora muttered, entering the bedroom to see what was wrong with Vincent.
She fainted during her walk due to something happening to the moon Goddess and knew the same thing was happening to Vincent since he had a close connection to Artemis. She wasn’t unconscious too long after she fainted so why was Vincent placed on a bed like he was dying?
Derek mentioned wolfsbane but Aurora and Vincent had a secret they never told anyone of. The wolfsbane was most definitely not going to harm Vincent.
Aurora sat on the bed and had to admit that Vincent did look pale but the wolfsbane had nothing to do with it. "You’re awake aren’t you? What do you get out of scaring people?" She poked his cheek. "I guess I better take this opportunity to return to the Hamiltons while you are sleeping."
"You will do no such thing," Vincent opened his eyes revealing his golden pupil. "It warms my heart that you pick up on my tricks right away."
"You have poor Derek trying to find the person who gave you wolfsbane. Did someone really feed it to you? They would be devastated to know you are immune to it. I’m amazed no one has picked up on the scent when you smoke it. Maybe I should start charging you for my wonderful creation."
Aurora was the one to have created the cigars for Vincent to smoke when he felt his body losing control. They took a risk in the past but it turned out wolfsbane did not kill him and it was the only thing to calm down his emotions. She had a few of the plants in her bedroom to use when he needed more of the cigars. freewebnøvel.com
"I was fed poison while I was unconscious. I decided to play a little game after they tried to kill me. I was hoping the person would confess since I did like them but they are sticking out until the very end."
Aurora squinted her eyes out of confusion as to who would be bold enough to poison Vincent in his own home. "You know who did it? Why did you turn this into a game when you should be punishing them? It could have been a different poison and you could have died. Do you wish to leave me?" She pinched his arm.
"Mari is the one who did it. That’s why I am not so quick to address it," Vincent revealed the culprit.
