Chapter 189: Awkward (2)
"No, focus on the puppet spell," Esmeralda appeared up close to Regina to hold her hand and prevent her from flipping through the pages. Her plan from the beginning was to get Regina to master a spell that could place a soul in an object which in this case would be a puppet, and then bring it to life to take over the object used.
She was angered by Regina getting sidetracked by other things. There was enough time for Regina to learn a way to communicate with Aurora but she had lied before. There wasn’t enough time for Regina to take things slow when learning her spells and potions. She was only trying to cheer Regina up so that she wouldn’t become discouraged.
Regina on the other hand didn’t like the way Esmeralda gripped her hand when she wanted to look for a spell to communicate with Aurora. It wasn’t like she had given up completely on learning the puppet spell, she just saw it was more important that she try to talk to Aurora. She felt like Esmeralda was hiding something from her.
"Right. Unfortunately, Timothy would be visiting soon for breakfast so it’s best I hide the book before anyone comes looking for me. When I return today, I will continue with it until I have it mastered," Regina started to gather everything she was using and push it back into the hole.
Esmeralda knew there was nothing she could do so she just kept quiet. Regina getting caught with the book wouldn’t be good for either of them.
Regina stood up looking down at Esmeralda who was eyeing where she placed the book. Luckily, she was a ghost, soul, or whatever so she couldn’t lift anything. "I’m going down to breakfast. Are you going to be alright by yourself?"
"Child, I have been by myself for a long time before I was able to talk to you. I’ll be fine. Run along quickly before someone comes looking for you and be safe," Esmeralda disappeared into thin air.
’Something is up with her,’ Regina thought but she didn’t have the time to linger on it. Her days had become filled with many things now. She had to go to the wine shop daily, deal with her mother and brother, pretend to be with Timothy, try learning spells, and get in touch with Aurora. ’I should visit those witches today for them to help me talk to Aurora.’
As Regina was about to leave her closet, she remembered the witches had given her a stick for her to break and call their names if she ever needed them for anything. "I should use that instead of visiting them two days in a row. I might run into Duncan if I keep visiting too much," she advised herself.
It was too much of a risk to keep visiting the witches when Duncan was looking to hire them for a job. Still, the witches needed to keep her updated with what Duncan wanted from them.
"I need a vacation after all of this," she sighed, holding her head. "I should make Timothy fund all of it. If I’m going to have to deal with Timothy, the least I could do is enjoy the things he has to offer. I have a feeling this breakfast is going to be one for the books."
Already dressed, Regina left her bedroom to go downstairs to the dining room. She was surprised to not have heard from Timothy by now to confirm if he was coming for breakfast and then taking her to the wine shop afterward.
"Good morning, Regina," the maids greeted her as they passed by.
"Good morning," Regina replied, suspicious of their kindness. Since she hadn’t been close to Minnie nor her mother these days, the maids carried an attitude behind her back.
It was common for the maids to be on the side of who they could benefit from and that was Minnie or her mother. News must’ve spread around that Timothy was courting her. Now they were trying to be on her good side when she needed to pick out her own personal maids.
"They must think I have memory loss." She remembered all the maids who had something to say under their breaths about her or tried treating Aurora badly. When this house would one day belong to her, she’ll fire everyone who ever annoyed or offended her. Starting with Duncan.
Regina disliked how he sometimes tried to scold her or order her not to do things like he was a part of the family and she was the worker. "Sleeping with Minnie has its perks I see," she said but then cringed when an image popped up in her head concerning Minnie and Duncan.
"Miss Hamilton," the devil Duncan called for her when she reached the main floor. "You have a guest," he opened the front door revealing Timothy’s carriage to be parked on the outside. "Be careful."
Regina was certain he didn’t mean for her to watch her step but he was giving her a warning for something else. ’I’m going to get rid of him. I should poison him as they did to my grandfather. Oh no, I’m becoming my grandmother,’ she grimaced.
"What is with your face? Are you not happy to see me, Regina?" Asked Timothy when he got out of the carriage. "After our long conversation last night and how much you were laughing, I expected a better welcome."
"Don’t flatter yourself. You have to work your way up to get a warm welcome from me. Don’t think too much of this," she said right before she wrapped her arms around him for a hug.
"How can I when you are holding me so passionately?" He placed his hands just above her waist to pull her close to him. "If this isn’t a warm welcome, I’m in for something special when I work my way up."
"Can you not be a flirt all the time? My mother and Minnie have eyes all over this place, so we must act like we’re in love every step we take." freewebnovёl.ƈom
"I told you already that I am not acting, Regina."
"Well, I am, so keep your hand above my waist at all times and don’t let your heart be swayed by anything I do," she pulled away from him.
"I will try but I can’t keep the promise my heart won’t be swayed. Before we go inside, I have gifts for you and your family," he pointed behind him where there were loads of boxes.
"I understand you buying gifts for me but why on earth would you bring some for everyone else? Forget common courtesy, I would like them to be jealous of the things I am getting. Send them back but have the ones for me brought in. Understood?" There was no point in rewarding her family members when she wasn’t on good terms with any of them.
"You know what, bring in the ones for my father. It would be rude if you didn’t bring something to him since you are interested in his daughter but then it makes me feel like I am being paid for. Screw it, do whatever you want," she gave up. freёweɓnovel.com
"You are one complicated woman but that’s what I love about you. I never know what to expect when I am around you. I’ll bring in one gift for your father but it’s not because I am trying to buy you, marriage hater. I’m trying to be nice to the man who made it possible for you to be here. I would like to offer something to your mother too."
"I guess you can. It’ll be fun for me to watch her try not to be excited since she wouldn’t want to show she enjoys getting something because of me but at the same time not try to offend you. Let’s go inside before the eyes watching us evolve to have better ears to hear what we are saying."
"There’s something important I have to tell you when we are alone and have no one spying on us." Timothy received news about the king’s death this morning and it wasn’t made public yet. He was offered something he never expected and depending on his answer he might not be living in this town anymore.
He was waiting to see if there was a possibility Regina would really want to marry him and stay in this town or marry him and obtain something more. Timothy never intended to become the king if something were to ever happen to king Darius but he was the best option for his family members.
"I swear you better not have a secret proposal or perhaps a secret love child you have been hiding and the only reason you approached me talking about love is that you think I’ll be desperate enough to take care of it. How dare you," she smacked his arm.
Timothy couldn’t help himself from laughing at her wild imagination. How did she go from a marriage proposal to a secret child? "It is neither a proposal nor a child. My children will all come from you."
"You wish," she scoffed.
