Chapter 181: No one else (3)
"I get your point and I think no matter how low or high you search, you wouldn’t be able to find someone as great as I am. No need for me to overthink any longer. Now, I can go to sleep peacefully," Aurora laid back against the bed feeling much better than she did a moment ago. There were still some things at the back of her mind but for now, she was going to ignore that feeling.
"There you go," Vincent said now that her confidence was back to being high. "I have to get changed here. You can take a peek if you want. I am not shy."
Aurora smacked her face with her hand at his words. He certainly wasn’t shy because when she propped herself up using her arms, she saw his naked rear end right before her eyes. "It’s amazing how you went from taking things slow to this. I don’t think I have come across anyone else with the confidence to walk around naked. Is there anything about you which you are not confident with?"
"No. I’m going to be stuck in this body for a long time, what’s the point in hating anything about it," he replied. Werewolves can live for a long time if they stay out of trouble. Vincent never saw the point in worrying about appearances year after year.
"Of course, a good-looking person would say that."
"Even if I were ugly I would not waste my time trying to change for anyone. What’s the point? I hate seeing people changing themselves to get noticed by the person they love. That means the person they love is only interested in appearances and if they do get together, you’ll find yourself in this routine of always trying to look good and the moment you don’t, the person you love will leave you."
"That was oddly specific," said Aurora. She realized Vincent loved to observe people so he probably picked up on this from the people around him. "You should be a doctor giving out this advice to people who are lost with who they are and what they truly want in life."
"No, thank you. My ears are already flooded by people coming to me with their everyday troubles. I have been blessing your eyes but I am afraid I must put on my night pants." He felt her eyes looking at this naked body and as much as he wanted to give her a show, he preferred to be in bed with her.
"I don’t know what you are talking about," Aurora denied the claim as she laid back down on the bed. Before Vincent could get near the bed, she turned around to crawl further up Vincent’s large bed. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"What a view," he complimented her as he blew out a couple of lanterns to darken the room. Before going to bed he looked out his window to see if any of his uncle’s men were out there but found nothing.
"What are you looking for? Is someone watching your home?" Aurora asked upon seeing his strange behavior. Who would be stupid enough to keep eyeing Vincent’s home when he notices everything? "Are you in danger?"
"When am I never in danger? That’s the downside of this position. If I am not enabling folks here with their bad ways, they plot against me. It won’t be a matter of time before someone tries to take my life again."
"Again? Did you almost die when I wasn’t here Vincent?" She sat up once again concerned for him.
"It’s not a big deal as I survived it. Each attempt ended with failure obviously as I am still alive," he replied whilst getting on top of the bed beside her. He regretted letting her know that he had almost died. Vincent did not want her to get involved with the internal battles going on in the community.
Since Aurora was with him, it put a target on her back as his weakness.
"But still... I hope all the people who tried it were caught."
"They were but some of them didn’t reveal the real masterminds trying to kill me. It’s not hard to guess when you look at all the information and who is linked to who. Most people here forget that I have a book filled with entries from the past alphas and the troubles they endured here with certain families. I know more about everyone here than they think."
"So why didn’t you do it after all if you know who they are?" Aurora didn’t see the point in leaving those people to be free of no punishment.
Vincent placed both his hands behind his head to rest back while he looked at Aurora. "I simply don’t care."
’What!’ Aurora internally screamed not seeing how someone could not care to punish the people who tried to kill them.
Vincent couldn’t refrain from smiling at the expression on Aurora’s face. He knew she wanted to yell at him. "They know that I know what they have done. They haven’t tried to kill me since then. There is only one person stupid enough to continue trying it because he gains a lot from my death."
"You have to do something about your uncle soon, Vincent. I’ve seen what people will do when they get really desperate. You have been kind to him for too long."
Vincent removed his left hand from behind his head to reach out to run his fingers through Aurora’s hair. "I know. I won’t leave him this time. Now, how long are you planning to sit while I patiently wait to be able to hold you? Are you doing this to avoid me?"
"No," she laid down beside him without a second thought. "I am concerned about you, Vincent."
"It warms my heart that you are but I promise you, I will be fine. I will get rid of anyone who dares hurt the both of us," he promised. He had a list of people who needed to be killed for the things they did to either him or Aurora. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Aurora moved closer to Vincent and laid down on his chest. "I am going to deal with the Hamiltons myself. I want to enjoy this peace before I have to return there. You have your uncle and others to deal with. I know you are afraid one wrong move might have my memories go away and I will end back trapped there but I need you to trust me as I trust you."
"I trust you but at the same time, I know how one wrong move can cost you the fight. I cannot help but worry about your safety. I won’t meddle in anything you have planned against the Hamiltons but I will always be nearby to watch over you. I won’t allow you to leave my side anymore."
"Not even if I don’t want to live here?" Aurora playfully asked as she had no plans to.
"No. We can just leave and go wherever you want. Leave Victor to be in charge for once." Vincent needed a break after the many years he was in charge after his father’s back. He knew it would be impossible to leave the community forever since he was a werewolf and needed to be with his pack but a break was needed at some point.
He couldn’t just stay home to take a day off since people would just show up at this home looking for help.
"I wouldn’t take you away from here but a day out would be nice. We can definitely do that now that the king is dead," Aurora dropped the bombshell on him and waited for his reaction. The king being dead was a good thing for Vincent.
Vincent remained silent for a moment unsure if he heard Aurora wrong but there was nothing wrong with his hearing. He could not believe that somehow, someway, the king had died. "Are you certain that the king is dead? Where did you hear of this?"
"One of my siblings came to visit me tonight. I am certain you heard when you came home which was why you thought longer than needed to enter your own home. Bonus point for waiting for me to tell you. Artemis was the one who ordered the king to be killed. The palace will be like a chicken with its head cut off. Just running around until it finally collapses," said Aurora.
"It will also cause problems if other creatures start to attack the palace now that the king is dead or they will openly attack humans to start their return. Either way, I must have the new walls going up quickly. This is a time when everyone will do reckless things. For you, this would be the perfect distraction for you to get back at those humans. Everyone will be traveling to the palace to pay respects to the king and leave their homes unattended."
"Humans? Vincent, have I never told you that the Hamiltons are actually witches?" Aurora only now realized a secret she had never brought up to him.
