Chapter 171: Suspicious (2)
"Why do you say that? Is there a dress code for witches? Does this place not make enough money for you to be able to buy a nice dress?" Regina asked as she looked around the business. There were too many small creatures for her liking. She noticed a jar that looked as if it had human fingers in it. She would rather not ask about them so she could sleep at night.
"Don’t hold your tongue I see. Care to enlighten me and my sisters about why you are walking into our place with a soul? Seems like you are up to no good and we don’t want any of our sisters like that in this place," Minerva said, highly suspicious of their visitor since it was a witch. One that was too well dressed. freēwebnovel.com
Witches normally did not like to bring any attention to themselves. The young girl in front of them was dressed as if she came from a well-off family.
"I didn’t know that I was a witch until last night so there is nothing I can do to any of you," Regina said, trusting that they wouldn’t reveal this to anyone because she’ll take them with her.
"And what about the soul you bought with you. Don’t think we don’t know what enters our shop. Why is there a soul attached to you? It is not always a good thing to have one following you," said Morgan.
"Why not?" Regina replied, curious to know more about it.
"It can bring you bad luck. The dead are not supposed to be in this world," Esmeralda answered the question.
"The dead can bring you bad luck. Some might be trying to trick you to replace your soul with their own or they might be here to tell you things you shouldn’t have known and you take a path not written for you. Since they are still following you and you have recently found out you are a witch, I see it is the latter."
"It would have been better for you to not know you are a witch and live a normal life. You might be here to find out more about your witch side but just be warned, there are a lot of dangers that come with it. My sisters and I won’t be responsible for what happens after your visit today," Morgan warned their guest.
If the young girl came to play around with spells, she had to know there were certain kinds of spells that affect the body over time, and then she wouldn’t be able to hide that she was a witch. Hiding that you are a witch is pretty important in a kingdom known to have burned many witches.
"Good to know but I still wish to know more about being a witch. I can pay you whatever amount you want. I want to buy your knowledge," Regina took a confident step forward to the counter the witches were standing behind.
"Very well," Minerva agreed, seeing no reason to turn back a customer when their business was slow these days. "I hope you have brought along a lot of money. What is it that you wish to know?"
"I-"
A knock at the door interrupted Regina from saying what she wanted.
"That’s the butler from that rich family. I hope he has brought me the frogs he promised. I told you the Hamiltons were looking for witches," Agatha informed her sisters. She moved around from the counter to go to the door.
Regina’s eyes widened hearing that it was Duncan at the door. If he saw her here, she was screwed. "You have to hide me," she informed the witches. "I’ll pay you for it."
"Good with me," Morgan replied, coming from the counter to take Regina’s hand and drag her down the stairs out of sight of their next guest.
"Thank you," Regina told Morgan.
Morgan smiled seeing for herself that their guest was truly harmless. She went back up with her sisters to see what the visitor could want and why the girl was hiding from him.
"What can we do for you, sir?" Minerva welcomed their second customer.
When Duncan entered the shop it appeared to be normal with no creatures or jars of anything in sight. However, he was certain he found the right place. He looked at the three women who fit the description of the witches he had been looking for. "I have a job for the three of you. Send a response in one day’s time if you agree to it," he handed Agatha a letter since she was the closest to him and then left.
He didn’t want to be seen in their shop for too long and he was meant to be searching for Regina since her carriage had broken down. The plan was for her to return home instead of going to the wine shop but the girl wasn’t at the broken down carriage when he passed by there.
Agatha scowled when the butler left, disappointed he hadn’t brought any frogs with him. At this point, she would need to go out and look for them all by herself. "People these days are so rude. They are not bringing any frogs with them."
"Will you quit talking about the frogs and read the letter he gave us? In fact, I will read it myself," Minerva snatched the letter from her sister’s hand. "There is more to life than frogs."
"When a customer comes for a potion that requires a frog, I hope you don’t ask me for any of the ones I have been collecting!" Agatha yelled pointing a finger at Minera.
"Get that nasty looking finger out of my face. Can’t you see how disgusting it looks? Stop using so much of those dark spells," Minerva retorted, stepping away from being close to Agatha’s finger.
"You’re one to talk. I can see those rotten teeth showing up," Agatha replied, hiding her fingers to fix them.
"I’m sorry you have to see my sisters like this," Morgan apologized to Regina when she came back up after the butler left.
"It’s fine. The three of you look so different that is hard to believe the three of you are sisters," said Regina.
"We tweaked our appearances a bit to stand out from each other but if you look at our faces they are quite alike. We all look like our mother."
"I see," Regina replied, watching the two other sisters continue to argue with each other. She was curious to know why Duncan was here. It must have something to do with the children she saw last night.
"They want us to perform the sleeping spell and the one for eternal youth. Quite dangerous if you ask me but they are willing to pay us a big amount of money. What is your family up to girl?" Minerva asked, looking straight at Regina.
She put two and two together from the way the girl dressed and her hiding from the butler.
"I should’ve known you were a Hamilton because they are the only wealthy witches I know in this kingdom. It’s been so long since I recognized one as a witch," Agatha said circling around Regina.
"I take it my family is popular among witches?" Regina asked, ignoring the witch circling her.
"Oh yes. It’s not every day a witch can take over a household and pretend to be human. Look how much influence your family has in society. They are an inspiration to witches like us. It’s sad how they aren’t true witches anymore. They have mixed with humans too much but you, you are special," Minerva told Regina. For them to easily recognize her as a witch meant that the girl was strong. She was more witch than human.
"What is it that you want from us?"
"I wish to learn more about my witch side and spells that can help me in the future. Also, I would like to offer you all a job. Instead of working for my family, I would like all of you to work for me. Accept the job my family is offering you but report to me what they are doing to me. You can get the money they are offering and I will pay you," Regina proposed to the trio.
"And why should we do that when we can rat you out to Minnie and receive even more money?"
"Because my great grandmother Esmeralda is telling me if you value the friendship you had with her at one point you would do it," Regina repeated the words Esmeralda told her. It was how Esmeralda knew about the witches as she had met them when she was alive. "Esmeralda says hi to her old friends."
"The soul you bought with you is Esmeralda?" Questioned Agatha surprised by what Regina said. Esmeralda had been dead for so many years now that she didn’t remember the last time anyone said her name. To know that her soul was following this young girl was unbelievable.
The three sisters looked at each other and nodded in agreement about something.
"Tell us more about this job you have to offer us," Morgan stated, happy to help anyone who was with Esmeralda.
