Chapter 147: Mother knows best (1)
"Oh brother," Derek rolled his eyes when they returned home and found a familiar carriage at the front of their home. He would have preferred a crowd rather than seeing that Jane’s mother had come to pay them a visit. With what occurred today he knew she could only be coming to give them an earful because they had taken the humans. More specifically, she was going to lash out at him.
Jane was a mix between being surprised and not surprised to see that her mother would be here. After their last conversation, she asked her mother to butt out of her marriage with Derek and for her mother to not visit. The first thing the children would have to be greeted by is her crazy mother. "I’ll talk to her," she promised Derek.
"I like that a lot," he replied, opening the door when Vincent’s carriage stopped. Even though Jane said she was going to talk to her mother, he knew this was going to bite him in the ass. ’Should we just move and not tell the woman where to?’ He deviously thought to himself.
"Come on girls," he said, helping Abigail and Tara out of the carriage at the same time. "Prepare to have your ears blown away."
"What?" Abigail looked up to him.
"Nothing," Derek muttered leading them up to the home while Jane sent the carriage back to Vincent’s home. He waited by the door instead of walking inside. "Ladies first," he grinned when Jane came up to them. If Alice was going to attack the first person who stepped through the door, it should be her daughter.
Jane didn’t say anything just this once and opened the door. She took a deep breath preparing herself for what was to come. "Take them to the guest room-"
"Jane! How could you do this without even thinking of how it would affect your family? You have officially lost your mind," Alice stormed out to the front door now that the people she had been looking for were there.
"Hello Alice," Derek acknowledged the woman as he picked up the girls and ran towards the guest room. They laughed in his arms thinking this was fun but little did they know that the monster-in-law was here.
"Derek, do not run away from me!" Alice yelled to the rude man. He was the one that brought this all to their family. He brought those little things to the community to shame Jane’s side of the family. "Does this make any sense to you, Jane?"
"Nice to see you too, mother. Didn’t we agree that you wouldn’t come over here anymore? You poke at my marriage, me as a person, and my husband. I am not in the mood to deal with it today," Jane closed the door behind her. Her mother could have at least waited till later on to get on her case about the children.
"These days you have been losing your damn mind, Jane. I thought if I gave you some space you would have realized how wrong you were. Realize how I have been looking out for you and your image but no, you let your husband go and do this crap. This doesn’t just affect you and that imbecile but us too. I was home enjoying my day and I had to be informed that my daughter would be taking care of humans all because of the carelessness of her husband," Alice felt so frustrated to the point she could pull her hair out but she didn’t want not even a strand gone.
"Then disown me, mother. Turn your back on me and tell everyone you don’t agree with this and that I am no longer your daughter. They’ll sympathize with you and the reputation you are worrying so much about will be safe. Goodbye mother," Jane liked to believe the conversation would end there with her solution but she knew her mother better than that.
"Safe? Safe Jane? They’re going to be talking about this the entire time you’ll have those humans here. My reputation won’t be safe. I’ll be the mother of the woman raising humans. Didn’t I give you enough knowledge not to do something so stupid? I mean honestly Jane. I must’ve done something right if your sister turned out better than this."
"Yes, mother. The problem lies with me so if you could please leave. It’s been a hectic day."
"It’s about to be a hectic life with those things you just brought home. How could you stand at that trial and try to plead for those children to stay here? I knew I shouldn’t have allowed you to get married to that man but your father without thinking agreed to it. Now it’s going to bite him in the ass and he’ll take out that frustration on me. Where is that man you call your husband? Derek! Derek!" Alice called ready to follow in the direction he took the humans but Jane blocked her path. "Jane, do not get in my way," Alice growled, showing a side she liked to keep hidden.
"I have been resisting using force against you but I am beyond my breaking point of you coming into my house and disrespecting me, mother. I told you that you are free to disown me and talk my name day and night for everyone you are so worried about to feel bad for you. Leave my home mother while I am still being nice," the wolf inside of Jane was on the verge of literally throwing out her mother.
"Jane, don’t stop me anymore. I’m taking matters into my own hands since you have no common sense," Alice pushed Jane away from in front of her and started to go after Derek but she didn’t have to go too far as he had come out from wherever he was hiding.
Derek was pissed to see Alice pushing his wife over a situation that had nothing to do with her. She could belittle him for all she wanted but putting her hands on Jane was not something he would not let fly by. "Alice, calm down, and let’s not use violence," was all he could say for now since she was still his mother-in-law even though he didn’t respect her.
"I have not begun to use violence, you imbecile. Do not get in between what I am discussing with my daughter-"
"I can when it concerns my wife," Derek went to Jane’s side shielding her from her mother. "Say whatever you wish to say to me instead of getting on her case. Yes, I fucked up by bringing the children here but I have also accepted the responsibility of taking care of them. That has nothing to do with you."
"Then take responsibility for them by yourself and leave my daughter out of it. Why does she have to be dragged down for the stupid things you do? No daughter of mine should have been married to a man like you who had nothing to offer to the woman he was interested in. Son of woodcutters," Alice scoffed, annoyed by his presence.
"Mother!" Jane exclaimed, angered by her mother’s behavior. "I told you, you weren’t welcomed here because of how you act towards my husband. How do you think it makes me feel when you do things like this? Please leave right away," Jane went to the door and opened it. It never felt good to hear her mother speak so badly of Derek. She didn’t marry him expecting him to take care of her while she stayed at home.
"Jane! When are you going to open your eyes and see the mess you brought upon yourself. Banning your own mother from your home over a worthless man like this?" Alice laughed not because she found anything to be funny but because she found this situation to be ridiculous. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Get out," Jane was close to taking her mother and dragging her out of their home. She wouldn’t care who would be on the outside to see.
"Fine. I’ll ignore you from this day on like you requested Jane but don’t come running to me when you have reached the end and you have no idea why you even married him. Today was your last chance to open your eyes. From this moment on, I only have one daughter," Alice said before storming out the opened door to her carriage. Her husband will have an ear full of what she had to endure today.
"I’m sorry Derek. I banned her from coming to our home recently. I promise she won’t be here ever again," Jane immediately apologized to her husband.
"It’s fine," Derek softly said, closing the door now that Alice was gone. "It’s not the first time anyone brought up my family background and our marriage and it won’t be the last. She only pushed you right?" He asked, making sure that Alice hadn’t done more than push her.
"Derek, I never cared about any of that. The lifestyle my mother keeps talking about is not what I wanted and I love what we have here," she reassured him.
"I know," Derek smiled but Jane knew her husband well enough to see the smile hadn’t reached his eyes.
