Chapter 146: Old castle (3)
"Vampires?" Aurora looked to Vincent surprised by the revelation of where vampires resided and that the king knew where they were located but didn’t care to go after them. "Why has he left them alone but choose to go after everyone else? What makes the vampires so different?"
"They are creatures who enjoy blood and they are hard to kill. Showing up at their home with an army of humans is not a threat but a food offering. They also have the ability to turn humans into vampires and the outcome is a creature who can’t control their blood lusts. Any human bitten by vampires at war would turn against their own and suck the life out of them." Werewolves had taken notes of these fights to learn where the humans failed and how they could not make the same mistake.
"Seth alone was not a fun experience, I cannot imagine facing off an army of them and watching as they turn my comrades into killing machines. Let’s stay far away from that place please," Aurora made a mental oath that she was never ever going to be anywhere near the dark forest in her life. Never ever.
"We would never go there unless we needed to. Outside of fighting a war against them, we have snuck in there to get back the children or sometimes people they stole from here. They have an obsession with carrying around werewolves who can shift into a wolf like they are an accessory. Nothing infuriates me more than to see them mistreat my people."
"Have you ever caught vampires and imprisoned them?"
Vincent rested his hands in his pockets remembering the excitement in the community when they bring back any vampires. "The ones outside the gates are killed immediately by the guards who watch the gates. That is my order. I prefer not to bring them inside partially alive because it invites the chance for them to get away and attack us. In the past, there used to be a display of the vampire being tortured. The main event would be ripping out their fangs just before we pull their heart out and cut them up."
Aurora cringed, imagining the sight of it. They sure had one painful payback.
"Ready to explore the rest of the castle? I didn’t bring you here just to scare you. Come on," he left the balcony going back inside the hall. Aurora followed behind him ready to see more of what it had inside. "This hasn’t been used for around one hundred years. There used to be a grand party here for when the full moon would be in the sky. Wolves from other packs would come here to join together for a celebration."
He continued to say, "Now that we have more space in our new home, we celebrate there instead. There really wasn’t a need for us to have this castle anymore. As their leader, the idea of living in a castle like a king felt out of place to me. I am just someone who protects them and I don’t see the need to be sitting in a castle putting some distance between us. Though it wouldn’t hurt to clean it up as it was once important to us."
"I think you should. It would be a shame for it to just be taken over by nature. I wish I had the chance to attend one of the celebrations in the castle. I have always dreamt of something like this because of all the books I read growing up. They always gave us stories about being in places like this and dancing with a prince. Many of the young girls must have thought they would one day meet a prince and live in a castle or palace."
Aurora imagined what it would be like with a band sending music throughout the castle, people talking with each other as they feasted on the food, and others dancing in sync in the middle of the crowd. Dressing up would be the best part of it all. Wearing the most beautiful dress your eyes laid upon. Romance would be in the air as men approached women for a dance hoping it would lead to something more in the future. Only if the dream could become a reality.
Vincent didn’t miss the way Aurora’s eyes lit up as she looked around the hall. He planned to give her a close enough experience of what it was like here in the past through Victor’s birthday party. After Vincent presented Victor with a good party idea, Victor happily agreed to it. "There will be many parties for you to attend soon. It’s the time of the year when we start looking for a partner. Prepare to have your dancing shoes on a lot."
"I can hardly wait. Now that the trial is over, I wish to hold the dinner party we were talking about before. We can invite Victor, Cherry, Jane, Derek, Abigail, Tara, Mari, and anyone you are close to. That is if you agree with it," she wanted to get permission from him again after seeing how antisocial and grumpy the man could get around others.
"Do whatever your heart wants. Just pick a date as soon as possible in case I need to rearrange work plans for me, Jane, and Derek. How much money will you need?" He was aware she brought her savings with her and some jewelry but he had more than enough to pay for what she wanted.
"Nothing, I still have my own and I don’t think it will be a party in need of large funds," she didn’t expect it to be like the ones women with a lot of money at their fingertips like to throw. "What I have is enough."
"Yet again, what you brought with you is human money and the only people interested in it here will be those who travel outside of the gates. I have been meaning to talk to you about a monthly allowance for you to indulge yourself in whatever you want so you don’t have to ask me for anything," Vincent said then prepared himself for her to reject it.
"I don’t need any of your money Vincent. How can I receive a monthly allowance when I do not work for you? I am nothing more than a guest in your room. I’m fine as I am," she rejected the offer. He had provided her with a place to stay and bought her many dresses from Cherry already. She couldn’t accept monthly allowances from him. When she left the Hamiltons she had the mindset of finding work for herself.
"It’s not up for debate Aurora. I will be giving you the money but how much is that women need to spend? One thousand gold coins or do you need more?"
Aurora’s mouth almost fell open from the amount he wanted to give her. If the gold coins they used carried the same value as the ones the people of the Harlow kingdom used then the amount he was offering was insane. "Are you crazy? No one should spend one thousand gold coins in a month. You’ll lose all of your wealth if you keep that up."
"Then save what you don’t spend," Vincent shrugged. He had been alive for a long time with money saved up that he was never going to touch. It was time someone had some use for it.
Aurora couldn’t comprehend how rich Vincent was for him to casually say these things. The allowance she received from the Hamiltons was three hundred gold coins and that was enough to last for a month depending on where she went to spend the money. It wasn’t like she was buying dresses every day which is where most young girls spent their money. "It’s truly not needed, Vincent."
"This is a losing battle, Aurora. You and I are both stubborn so it’s best we both come to an agreement. What about seven hundred and fifty gold coins a month? Six hundred?" He changed his answer when she shook her head. fгeewebnovёl.com
"What on earth do you think I wish to buy?" She sighed.
"Five hundred gold coins," he changed it again. Vincent had heard tales from men who were married or courting women about how much money they would have to spend. It depended on what the person wanted and even though he had already bought her a closet worth of clothes, there were many other things she could want to buy.
"One hundred gold coins is more than enough," she decided to end this and accept that he wasn’t going to let this go until she accepted money from him.
"I know that is not enough Aurora. How much did you receive from the Hamiltons?" He was not going to give her anything less than what they gave to her.
"Three hundred gold coins," Aurora replied not realizing what Vincent had in mind.
"That settles it, you will be getting four hundred gold coins a month and if you are in need of more, there are six hundred more available to you."
