Chapter 140: Going forward (1)
"The dagger my father always carried around was given to him by our grandfather when he became alpha and it was promised to me or my brother when one of us became the next alpha. My uncle was always jealous of my father and it was hard for him to pretend he wasn’t. My father noticed it too, but never spoke to his brother about his brewing hate."
"Why? Why not address it early to fix the family?" Aurora didn’t see ignoring jealousy as the best idea. When someone shows you a side of them that is envious of your accomplishments and wants it for themselves, it is best to distance yourself. What if his uncle had planned to target Vincent and Victor back then to completely get rid of anyone who would block his chances after his brother’s death?
"When I brought it up to my father, he said he had noticed the looks from my uncle too late. He assumed the jealousy started when they were younger and my grandfather favored my father more. He only had high hopes for one son and ignored the other. Nothing my father said would get through to my uncle unless he was going to make my uncle the leader. Still, my father loved his brother and kept him around. That brotherly love cost him and his wife’s life."
If regret kept your soul in this world as many believed, Vincent wondered if his father’s soul was still here. Would he regret not dealing with his brother to save his wife or would he do it all over again?
"A love between siblings can’t be explained when it comes to the things you’ll do for them. I have siblings I don’t remember which came from Artemis and I have Regina. Although Samuel has chosen what is more important to him, I’m hoping there’s a chance in the future we can fix what has been broken. It’s stupid to hope for it though since I might not remember him but I would do many things for all those I call my siblings."
"Instead of saying you won’t remember anyone, you should be more positive you will remember everyone you care for. If you keep on putting that negative energy out into the world, the only things that can happen around you will be negative. Take it from my experience," Vincent pressed his cigar against a wall having no more use for it. Their conversation was enough to drive his mind away from the anger he felt toward the woman beside him.
"That’s rich coming from you when I view you as a negative person," Aurora chuckled. To her, Vincent was the type of person to enjoy rain on your parade. He did have some good moments but he definitely enjoyed ruining someone’s day.
Vincent placed his hand on his chest feigning hurt because of her words. "I don’t see why you have painted me to be such a cruel person when I have been nothing but nice. You hurt me."
"I have not only been looking at how you treat me but everyone else. You love messing with Derek, don’t you?" The dynamic between Vincent and his friends was hilarious in her eyes.
"I do. We have visitors," Vincent stated after a small pause.
"I’m amazed by how well your hearing is. If someone were to be like that when I was living among humans they would control the social life since they would have everyone’s business to use against them. Who is it that came to visit? Is it someone that I know?" Aurora didn’t think this was the best time for her to meet any more new people when they were trying to figure out where to go from here with the little ones.
"How can you miss Cherry’s big mouth?" Vincent regretted having good hearing because every time the woman came to his home she would purposely get too loud to irritate him. He knew he should have ordered for no one else to gain entry into his home.
"Cherry?" Aurora beamed, happy to see the woman again.
"What’s special about Cherry that you light up for her this way and not for me? I am much better than her. You know what, we should stay here and keep talking," he grabbed hold of her hand to stop her from leaving his bedroom. "I don’t think I have calmed down and if you leave me now, I might need to take a smoke again."
Aurora scoffed at his childish behavior. Cherry was his friend he introduced her to and now he was acting all jealous. "Cherry is your friend and not to mention a woman. How can you be acting jealous of her? A man I would understand."
"You aren’t aware of Cherry’s flings which is why you think that. She can swing both ways when she’s in the mood and trust me she’ll be in the mood if it means pissing me off. Let’s stay. My brother has also arrived and he can entertain everyone out there," Vincent tugged on her hand to pull her in the direction of his couch but Aurora refused to follow him.
"Stop being so antisocial with your own friends Vincent. There’ll be plenty of time for us to talk about whatever it is you’re going through after everyone has talked. I promise," she held up her pinky on her free hand to make the promise to him.
"Deal," he accepted the promise. Now all he needed to do was get these people out of his home so that he could go back to what he was doing with Aurora. It would only take his lovely charm to get rid of all of them. He released her hand now that they had agreed to go down to be with their pests or as Aurora liked to kindly call them, guests.
"Great. We can’t keep our guests waiting." Aurora thought it was funny how someone who disliked being around others for long periods of time was chosen to be the alpha. If he didn’t have the conflict with his uncle and didn’t want to give up the position of leader for it to fall into his uncle’s hands, Aurora would bet everything that she owned Vincent would have run away from here to live on his own. "The sooner we go down to meet everyone the sooner they will leave."
"Let’s go," Vincent headed right for his door. He could only blame himself for having most of their guests here as he was the one who told them to take Aurora to his home when she was unconscious. What he should have said was to take Aurora and then leave. Jane and Derek now had the little humans to do whatever they pleased. Why was there a need to stay at his home?
"Can you please not be grumpy? This moment is supposed to be happy since we save the little ones. You scare them." Aurora hadn’t missed the looks they gave to Vincent sometimes and she didn’t blame them. The man was most definitely intimidating.
"I am not making any more promises with you," Vincent opened his door allowing Aurora to walk out first then he followed after her. As they headed towards the main floor where they had left everyone, laughter and chatter were heard. "They’re having a good time when the owner of the house isn’t here."
"I think everyone has more fun when you aren’t around Vincent."
"She’s right. Do you know how many parties I attended thanks to you being away? I call them that Vincent is not around parties," Derek slapped his knee and laughed like it was the funniest thing he ever heard but Vincent did not share the same sentiments nor did anyone else in the room. "All of you people are buzzkills. I need to hang out with my other friends more often."
"You need to tell better jokes," Victor said. He came over now because he had never enjoyed the trials and since it had to do with two children, regardless of them being human, he wasn’t up to attending today. When Cherry told him she was doing the same and planned to visit Vincent afterward, he decided to visit. "It hasn’t been that long since the trial has ended but I already heard a lot of rumors about it. Something about Aurora almost killing someone?" ƒreewebɳovel.com
"I don’t like to entertain myself with those kinds of rumors because it is always far from the truth. Why on earth would Aurora attack anyone? Do they really have nothing better to talk about? I am considering making clothes for children the more I look at these cuties," Cherry had become sidetracked by imagining Abigail and Tara with dresses she made.
"The part about Aurora attacking someone is true. That person was Marge," Jane updated the newcomers.
Cherry gasped, stomping over to Aurora to grab her cheeks and turn her head side to side to see if she was alright. "I don’t believe that this little one can actually hurt someone like Marge. All of you must be playing with me right?"
