Chapter 138: Lose control (4)
’Did the thought of Marge hurting the girls trigger me to somehow wake up? Why on earth is it so easy when you are not trying?’ Aurora thought on the verge of pulling her own hair out. Now there was a possibility that if she witnessed something bad she might wake up. Like the experience, she had in the cave where she ran away. ’I might’ve missed my chance to wake up completely when I ran away.’
’Why did it always have to be something bad?’ Aurora wondered. It would be nice if for once it was something good instead of what felt like nightmares. Why couldn’t she have to find the end of a rainbow to get back her memories or just do a good deed?
"Aurora?" Mari asked when time passed but Aurora only stared off into a distance and didn’t respond to her.
"Oh. It’s something I will tell you about in the future. Right now, I am not certain about the things happening around me. Like you, this is a learning experience for me." Aurora was still trying to process the fact that she almost hung someone and didn’t find this to be a good moment to focus and explain her life to them. She didn’t even understand the things happening in her life.
"Okay. It was cool to see what you did today. I bet everyone will think twice about messing with you. If only you could see how their expressions changed when you almost hung Marge." Mari was glad Aurora had shown everyone attending the trial that they shouldn’t mess with her so easily. Many of them would have tried to bully Aurora in the future and now there would be fewer people to worry about. They only had to worry about the few fools who still wanted Aurora gone.
"You were cool but there’ll be a lot of people who won’t like what you did when word spreads around. Good thing you have Vincent there to fend them away from you. That was your first time being surrounded by werewolves like that, how was it?" Jane asked. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"I felt nervous which was expected but the more I was there it felt normal. The nervousness went away and I felt comfortable. I think I handled it well outside of the ending. I hope I didn’t put Vincent in too much trouble. I need to apologize to him for what happened. And regardless of how that woman seemed, if we ever cross again I must apologize for almost ending her life."
"To be honest, Marge won’t care about your apology after you embarrassed her in front of all of those people but if it will make you feel better then go ahead. Vincent had informed us of your connection to Artemis but I didn’t think you had power like that. What else could you do?" Derek wondered as she didn’t need to be protected so much. She could clearly defend herself.
"I’m not sure. I think this power came back to me first because of how much time I spent in the garden. I have to go back trying to unlock what else I can do. Will Vincent really be alright?" Aurora was concerned about how things were going for him. Was there a possibility she put him in trouble?
"That brute will be fine. A Lot of people don’t like him, like me for example, but they can’t just mess with our alpha. Yes, they’ll start plotting on him and you because of the embarrassment today and maybe someone will die in the future-What the hell honey!" Derek yelled when Jane kicked him in the knee. "A little more to the right and our marriage would have problems. Why are you so violent?"
"Why can’t you read the room? You could have stopped with nobody messing with the alpha when it is clear Aurora is worried for him. Did I marry a fool?" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Derek rubbed his knee to bring some life back into it. "Of course not. I graduated at the top of my year group."
"Your husband is lazy, not foolish Jane," Mari chuckled, wholeheartedly enjoying the couple’s bickering. She didn’t quite understand how the two got married when they were opposites.
"Exactly," Derek agreed with Mari, making Jane roll her eyes. "We’re here. Why did the ride to Vincent’s home feel so far away today?"
Derek opened the door he was seated by when the carriage stopped and stepped outside to help Jane and everyone else get out safely. Not surprisingly, there were a few people who hadn’t gone to the trial gathering around now that Vincent’s carriage had returned home. "Seriously, how is Vincent supposed to sneak anywhere when it’s so easy to recognize his carriage? Why did he have to be the only person with an all-black carriage?"
"It’s his favorite color. Take his hand sweetie," Jane told Abigail as they stepped out the carriage door.
"Probably because it’s the same color of his soul. Dark and empty."
"You’re taking a lot of jabs at Vincent now that he isn’t here Derek. When he returns, he’s not going to be in the mood to hear these jabs. However, it would make me happy to see you tell him one to his face. Go ahead," Jane pushed for it.
"You want me to get killed, don’t you? I always knew you to want me dead so you can get divorced. Shame on you. Listen," Derek got down to Abigials’ level to tell her, "Don’t end up in a marriage like this. In fact, I’ll ward off people who remind me of my wife."
Abigail giggled along with her sister Tara. Jane on the other hand found that to be amusing since he was the one that chased after her while she tried to avoid him at first. "Need I remind you how our relationship started? You practically stalked me. I’ll protect them from anyone who reminds me of my husband."
"I think they need protection from both of you. Come on, let’s get the two of you inside to get something to eat while the adults continue to bicker. Mari, can you run ahead and tell Abel to prepare some treats and juice?" Aurora asked having both little girls on each side of her as she walked up to the house ignoring the stares from the people who came to look for Vincent.
"Yes," Mari replied, running inside to do as she was told. These days Vincent’s home was becoming much livelier than how it was when Mari first started working here. It was about time the house regained the warmth it was missing. As she entered the home, she screamed at the sight before her.
"What is it, Mari? Vincent?" Aurora asked, puzzled, to see him here. How could he have gotten home before them when the others said they left him to have a conversation with everyone else at the trial? "Do you have some sort of ability to teleport? How did you return before us?"
Checking his body, Aurora saw the glass of what she presumed to be liquor, the lit cigar in his hand, and how large his claws were. "What happened Vincent? Did something happen to you because of me?"
"This has nothing to do with you. Just some family drama and I need to cool myself down." He could feel his body raging at the thought of shifting into his other form but Vincent was against it. If he shifted right now, Vincent was certain he’d end the day with blood on his hands.
"A drink and smoking, who was it that irritated you back there? Marge, Graham, or both?" Derek asked as he knew Vincent only smoked when he was losing control of himself. Although Vincent could sometimes have a temper, he kept it under control to avoid triggering his transformation. Being the leader and having people upset you on a daily basis wasn’t the best position to be in where you had to resist snapping sometimes.
"My uncle. I’ll be upstairs. Not a good sight for children to be around someone smoking and drinking," Vincent got up from his seat to start walking upstairs before anyone wanted to stop him. He needed a moment of silence to get his emotions in order before he could stop drinking and talk to everyone calmly.
"Jane," Aurora handed the girls off to Jane then followed after Vincent to check up on him. She felt guilty for what happened today even though Vincent claimed it had nothing to do with her. She went up to the second floor and caught Vincent in time to see that he was going into his bedroom.
Aurora walked up to his door and knocked first before entering his bedroom. When she opened the door and stepped inside looking for Vincent, she was startled by him pulling her hand, as he was standing beside her without her realizing, and pushing her back against his door closing it in the process. "Vincent," she gasped at his actions. Maybe it was how dark his room was with the curtains blocking the light but she swore his eyes were glowing.
