Chapter 137: Lose control (3)

"Is Aurora going to be alright?" Mari asked when the carriage got far away from where the trial was held. She never expected the trial to have this type of ending and for Aurora to attack someone. The change in Aurora’s personality was scary and having the moon goddess show up almost made Mari’s heart skip a beat.

Derek looked down at Aurora who was still unconscious but she was breathing so she seemed pretty alright. "She just needs to rest. I can’t believe she attacked Marge but the woman had it coming. It’s about time she had her position taken away from her but I am curious to see who will be the new elders."

"Probably people who don’t let their personal opinions or feelings cloud their judgment. I hope it’s someone who won’t throw jabs at others." Jane was pissed off that Marge brought up her inability to have children. She was used to the woman poking at her and everyone else but this time it ticked her off. Her inability to have children wasn’t something she discussed with anyone outside her circle of people so one of them had blabbered their mouth.

Derek reached out to hold onto Jane’s hand. He put her in the position to stand in front of Marge all because he wanted to keep the little girls and take care of them. "I’m sorry, for all of this Jane. I should have," he paused when the older girl looked at him. She was sitting with Jane while her sister sat on Mari. "You know what I meant Jane and I’ll never do it again. It was too risky for everyone involved."

"I do feel the need to strangle you but I’m not that mad at you anymore. You have a big heart for children and you wanted to help them. I’m angrier at how the world has become. Look how easy we want to kill each other. Even me. I have killed humans and other creatures who were in the same position as me. Just looking out for their own. I’ve killed people who were probably innocent but I never listened to them. To stand there and try to save the two of them makes me feel guilty."

If she wasn’t going through her battles to have a child, Jane wondered if it would have been easier for her to simply kill the two girls when Derek showed up with them. Had she only saved them because she felt a child’s life was precious when the babies growing in her stomach were taken from her? "I lied to myself these past days. Before our marriage and our struggles, I would have definitely killed any creature young or old who came too close to our community. Maybe the world is punishing me for being such a monster."

"Oh, my beautiful crying wife." If Derek wasn’t holding Aurora, he would have gotten up to comfort Jane.

Mari looked at Jane but didn’t see her crying as Derek said. "There aren’t any tears on her face." It was insensitive to say at the moment but she didn’t see any.

"I know." Derek knew his wife well enough to know when she wanted to cry but felt uncomfortable showing this side to certain people. So, she’ll bottle up her emotions and cry on the inside till she’ll be alone to cry out loud.

’This is what it means to love someone? To know when they are crying without seeing any tears?’ Mari thought to herself. Such a thing seemed romantic to her and she one day hoped to meet someone who could tell what she was feeling just by looking at her.

"Are we going to your home or will they be locking us up?" Abigail, the seven-year-old and the oldest of the two little girls said after silence fell upon the carriage. For the first time in her life, she got to witness people who could perform magic. She had the thought that they could teach her so that she could protect her little sister. She stared at Aurora who had hurt the woman who was going to hurt her and her sister.

"We’re going to visit a friend’s house and then decide where you’ll be living but it will most likely be with me. You won’t have to be locked up ever again. We’ll protect you from bad people. Deal?" Derek held out his pinky for him to make a deal with Abigail.

"Deal," Abigail agreed, wrapping her pinky around Derek’s.

"Me too sis," Tara, the five-year-old said, holding out her pinky towards Derek. She giggled when he did the same as he had done with her sister. "You too," she told Jane.

"Deal," Jane agreed to protect them both. "I hope Aurora can wake up quickly to see that the two of you are now safe."

"Safe for now until others see them wandering around and talk about them. They’re still children and the words from adults can hurt them. It’s not only physical harm we have to protect them from. We’ll have to home school them but it won’t be easy finding them a teacher. And we both work to do with Vincent daily so we’ll need someone to watch them but that won’t be easy. Even if we do find someone willing, we can’t just trust them so easily." Derek was starting to realize the many things they hadn’t talked about.

Truthfully, he hadn’t believed the little girls would still be alive all now. Things were going to need to change now that they promised to protect Abigail and Tara but it won’t be easy.

"It’ll work out," Jane promised her husband. She knew what needed to be done when they met up with Vincent again.

Reaching close to Vincent’s home, Aurora started to shift in Derek’s arms as she was starting to wake up.

"Wait!" Derek announced after something dawned on him about Aurora. "What if she wakes up and attacks me as she did to Marge? She didn’t seem like herself back then. Why didn’t anyone think about that when Vincent put her in my arms? Do all of you want me to die? What will we do if she loses control again?"

"I don’t think she’ll attack people she cares about. She really wanted to protect the little ones and Marge was looking like she would hurt them so Aurora reacted based on that. It does make me feel better that she’s in your arms and not mine if I am wrong," Mari innocently smiled. She was sitting by a door so if Aurora did wake up angry and started to attack everyone, she had an easy escape.

"How good for you. Why am I always the one who has to be the test dummy?" Derek muttered.

"You’re the easiest one to mess with. Don’t worry, if she wakes up and tries to attack you, I will protect you like always," Jane teased him.

"Attack who?" Aurora muttered confused by the conversations everyone was having. Her head had slight pain and her body felt weird.

"Aurora," Mari beamed, happy that she was fine and back to normal.

"Take your time Aurora. I’m not sure what Artemis did to you and what the side effects might be. We’re almost close to Vincent’s home-Ow," Derek groaned, grabbing his nose after Aurora jumped up and accidentally connected her elbow to his nose.

"Artemis was here? Oops, I’m sorry Derek," Aurora apologized seeing that his nose had started to bleed. Her vision became blurry for a second but her headache immediately stopped right after. "What happened at the trial? How are they free?" She asked upon seeing that the two little girls were in the carriage. She moved out of Derek’s arms to sit beside him.

"Well, it’s quite an interesting ending to the trial. Do you remember attacking Marge at the trial?" Jane asked to test out what Aurora remembered doing.

"I attacked someone? Is this a joke?" Aurora laughed expecting everyone to do the same but they didn’t. "I really attacked someone?"

"To be more precise, you almost hanged her. It’s thanks to Artemis showing up that you didn’t complete it. From the way you spoke, it didn’t seem like the Aurora I met a few days ago. Do you really not remember anything that happened?" Mari asked out of concern. She didn’t expect Aurora to have a split personality. Mari also remembered Artemis mentioning Aurora waking up. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"I remember the elders rejecting the idea to save them and Vincent getting angry. Now here I am with you. I don’t recall not for a second attacking anyone." Aurora found it odd how she would just blackout in the middle of having a conversation but still be awake to almost kill someone. Nothing from her memory felt odd like there was a missing piece. "I can’t believe that happened and I don’t remember anything. What did Artemis say?"

"She told Vincent that you woke up but don’t get too excited since it won’t last long. What does that mean?" Mari was most curious about that part because why would someone who was clearly awake be said to just woke up? It was confusing.

For Aurora, it wasn’t confusing as she knew what Artemis meant but she had no clue how she did it. The one time she wasn’t trying it happened.
