Chapter 136: Lose control (2)
Chattering amongst everyone increased immediately after Artemis left. There were so many things to talk about from Marge being attacked, to Aurora having strange abilities, Artemis showing up, and the elders needing to be changed. Those that weren’t able to attend the trial surely missed a good show. Many people were also upset that there would be no hunt starting again.
Graham in particular was upset that Marge would no longer have her position as an elder. She always went against Vincent when anyone brought up a concern about him. What if the next chosen elders wouldn’t listen to his complaints? He needed at least one to be on his side. Vincent having the woman in his arms meant that Artemis will always be on his side. ’I need to find an advantage,’ he thought. freёweɓnovel.com
Vincent ignored Marge panting on the ground and the words of the two male elders pleading with him to speak with Artemis about her decision. To be removed from the position of being an elder was a disgrace and not many would respect them afterward. It was interesting to see their previous confidence disappear.
Vincent was more concerned about how for that small moment, Aurora had woken up but Artemis told him not to get too excited because she hadn’t fully woken up. What triggered her to wake up for that one moment? "Derek, take Aurora to my home along with everyone else. Use the carriage they brought along to return. I have to handle things here first," Vincent handed off the unconscious Aurora to his friend.
"Are you certain you don’t want me to stay?" Derek replied a little worried for Vincent. He’ll have to deal with the past elders, his uncle, and anyone else who disliked the results of the trial. He was still confused on why the elders hadn’t pushed for him to receive a bigger punishment for what he did. Something fishy was happening. freёwebnovel.com
"Fish will fall from the sky the day I become worried about the people here. What I am more concerned about is getting Aurora to safety since I have no idea what happened to her. Take her right away and the little ones if you really want to be safe. You never know who might try to attack them even with the judgment made." The sooner Derek and everyone else got away from here the better.
"Okay. Jane, get the little ones. Mari run ahead and prepare the carriage," Derek ordered everyone. He allowed Jane, the little girls, and Mari to go ahead in front of him first then followed after.
"I hope you protect your own with the same care you give to that woman. You really went as far as to seduce one of Artemis’s people to give yourself an advantage Vincent. Your father would be so disappointed," Graham shook his head with disappointment.
"I am not the one always looking for an advantage uncle and I am not going to argue with you here in front of everyone. Family disputes should be kept private. Marge," Vincent said, turning to the woman who had started to regain her composure after almost dying. "Send over all your information on past trials and anything that the new elders should have."
"You...You aren’t even asking about my well-being. The elders are not everyday people you can just replace. We have been alive for a long time and have more wisdom than any other person here. Even the alpha has to come to us when he needs advice about something. How dare you stand there and allow Artemis to say we should be changed? We cannot be so easily-"
"When are you going to stop this rant?" Vincent rolled his eyes. She was so loud and proud now but was quiet a moment ago when Artemis was here. "You had the chance to say all of this to the moon goddess when she was here. Why are you complaining to me? I might be the alpha but as always, the goddess’s words matter more. At least leave here with dignity and not yelling about what you’ve lost and can’t get back."
Rai stepped in to defend his position. He was following what Marge said today because the woman had visited his home promising something good in return if he listened to her. It didn’t pay off today. He also wanted the hunt to start again but it wasn’t worth losing being an elder. "We should have been given the chance to make things right."
"I have a good memory Rai and I remember you stating you didn’t agree with the things our ancestors did like mating with humans. I have my own opinions of humans but I will not disrespect what has been done in the past. For people who are supposed to have the most wisdom, you weren’t talking like it today. Trials are meant for us to hear out what anyone has to say and then cast our judgment. Artemis brought up the fact that all of you talked before the trial. I’ll be sure to look into it."
Vincent planned to uncover why they let Derek go with a slap on the wrist to help build the new gates. "You three have been alive for many years. Enjoy the free time that you were just blessed with because I will not be appointing you back to being elders."
Marge marched up to Vincent pissed off that he was really going to remove them. "Have you forgotten that when your parents died we made the decision to make you the leader? We could have given that position to your uncle. You should be thanking us."
"Why? It’s common sense that I would become the leader as I was the only alpha around. Tell me, Marge, since that time you announced me as the leader and this day, what made you change into the person that you are today? Your judgments used to be much better in the past. Have you gotten too greedy with the power bestowed to you?" Vincent asked, following her eyes which darted in the direction of where his uncle stood for a second. "Understood."
Of course, his uncle had something to do with it. It was stupid of Marge to think she could trust the man when he won’t look at her twice now that she lost her position. Vincent turned to the crowd of people who attended the trial and were enjoying the show in front of them. "Why are you still here? The trial is over. Anyone who does not move in the next two minutes will be made to help build the new walls. One..." he started to count and it didn’t take long for everyone to start moving.
"You must think you’re so high and mighty," Graham commented as people pushed pass him to get out. He envisioned another ending to this trial today but yet again his nephew had the upper hand. Today showed Graham how much more he needed to plot to take down Vincent.
"Of course I do. Should I think of myself as low and weak? We already have enough of those in the family. I’m sorry to end this family reunion so quickly but I have better things to do than amaze you with my greatness," Vincent placed his hands in his pants pockets and started to leave but his uncle stepped in front of him.
"You’ve got some fucking nerve always looking down on me," Graham spat.
"How can I not look down on you when I am much taller? You would need a witch to make you grow dear uncle," Vincent patted Graham’s shoulder and stepped to the side to pass him.
"I hope you keep an eye on that lovely lady you have. She might be one of Artemis’s people but a lot of people here won’t care about that. She tried to kill Marge who is respected here in the community. With your father gone, I have to take on the responsibility of watching out for the company you keep. I’ll be keeping a close eye on her, "Graham grinned, happy to have a weakness for Vincent.
Victor was one but Graham sort of liked his other nephew to not want to hurt him to get to Vincent.
Vincent tilted his head slightly looking at the guards Graham bought to protect him from a distance. "Is that so?" He asked. Vincent then looked down at his nails wondering if he should sharpen them for the coming days.
Graham chuckled whilst patting Vincent’s shoulder as his nephew had done to him. "I’m just being a good father figure since you don’t have one. I miss my brother these days. I’m failing him by not helping you be married already with your children. You need to find someone to grow old with. I pray to the moon goddess that you live for more years."
"Uncle, if you don’t take your hand off me, your children won’t be able to see you grow old. I have worked on my patience for many years and believe me, you don’t want me to mess that up. As I have been telling all of you, you don’t want to see me when I’m angry," Vincent shifted his head to look down at his uncle once again.
