Chapter 237: Chapter 148: Li Wei, Can You Fly?

At first, Sarah nodded along, but as they walked down the long, red-rock corridor, her steps gradually slowed.

"But Anya, don’t you think maybe they have a tiny bit of a point?" Sarah said suddenly, a hint of guilt in her voice. "Look at me now. I’m bloated and clumsy, I can’t even bend over. Mark is under so much pressure on Wall Street every day, but I can’t even fulfill the most basic duties of a wife anymore."

"Maybe I should just turn a blind eye? Even proactively find him a clean prostitute... I mean, as long as his heart is still at home," she said, looking at Anya. "Don’t you think? It’s the kind of tolerance a wife should have."

"Unless one day Li Wei flies up in front of me and tells me he’s some kind of god on earth," Anya said, waving her hand impatiently, "I would never share him with other women."

Just as they were discussing polygamy, a young attendant, who looked to be about 15 or 16 and was wearing a similar retro-style long dress, hurried past a corner in the corridor ahead, pushing a linen cart piled high with pure white towels.

Perhaps because she was in such a hurry, one of the linen cart’s wheels got stuck in a crack between the red-rock floor tiles. The cart lurched violently. A few towels fell off, and with a sharp clatter of plastic, a strange, bottle-like object rolled out from the pile of towels, coming to a stop right at Anya and Sarah’s feet.

The attendant let out a cry of alarm and immediately scrambled over, practically diving to the floor as she fumbled to grab the bottle.

"Sorry, sorry," she apologized, bowing as she spoke, then quickly pushed the linen cart away.

"How weird," Anya said, watching the attendant’s retreating back. "What’s she in such a panic about?"

"That’s a Haberman feeder," Sarah said, her face instantly turning pale. "Is this a sign from God?"

"Wait," Anya said, confused. "What’s a Haberman feeder?" freewebnøvel.coɱ

"It’s a medical device used specifically for feeding infants with severe defects who lack a sucking reflex," Sarah said, her voice trembling. "If I’m not submissive enough, if I can’t be as tolerant of Mark as the Lord wishes, then a child with defects will be my punishment."

...

"What punishment?" Anya scoffed. "I think she’s just scaring herself."

"It does sound like quite a coincidence," Li Wei nodded. "It’s normal for pregnant women to be under a lot of stress."

"Seeing her like that... being pregnant seems really miserable," Anya said, frowning and snuggling deeper into Li Wei’s arms. "I definitely don’t want kids right now... Not until after I graduate college, at least."

"By the way," Anya mumbled drowsily, half-asleep, "can you fly, Li Wei?"

Her sleepy words nearly made Li Wei jump. He thought for a second that she had discovered something.

"I... can’t yet," he said after a pause. "But I can learn."

"Hahaha," Anya’s voice grew fainter until it was replaced by even, lengthy breaths. "You’re kidding... again... zzz..."

After a long moment, once he was sure Anya was fast asleep, Li Wei carefully pulled his arm free. He changed into a set of black clothes, slid open the balcony door, and stepped directly onto the rock wall. Then, at an impossible angle, he stood perpendicular to the cliff face, a full 90 degrees.

[Wall Walking]!

’Would there be an infant with such severe defects at a resort?’ he muttered to himself. ’This is worth looking into. Maybe I can follow this clue to find that ’Prophet’.’
