Chapter 238: Chapter 149: Judgment Day Is Coming

Fan Yan Resort was terrifyingly silent in the dead of night. Aside from the occasional gust of wind sweeping through the canyon, the only sound came from hidden speakers tirelessly emitting low-frequency sound waves.

However, Li Wei was immune to these tedious sound waves. Like a giant black panther, he scaled the sheer red sandstone exterior wall as if walking on level ground.

He moved swiftly across the face of the wall, avoiding all cameras and patrolling guards.

He mentally retraced the route Anya had described earlier in the day, soon finding himself back above the long corridor that led to the yoga terrace.

Hanging upside down like a bat in the shadows along the corridor’s exterior, he observed the activity inside through a vent.

Two tall male security guards stood at the end of the hallway.

’This isn’t the time to spook them,’ Li Wei thought.

Hugging the wall, he moved with an impossibly smooth grace, slipping right past the two guards under their very noses.

One of the guards seemed to sense an unusual shift in the air. He glanced back in confusion, but finding nothing but an empty corridor, he just shook his head and resumed staring forward.

Past the corridor, Li Wei continued to move along the ceiling, still hanging upside down. He followed a staircase downward and soon reached a door at the far end of the basement.

The door was shut tight, but Li Wei’s sharp hearing already caught sounds from behind it. A faint, deeply suppressed cry—as if someone’s mouth was being muffled—seeped through the crack under the door. It was intermittent, yet it evoked a visceral sense of unease. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

Mixed in were a woman’s low sobs and soothing whispers, along with the BEEPING of what sounded like medical equipment.

Li Wei tried to push the door open, but he quickly noticed the keypad lock beside it.

He checked the time. It was 2:00 AM. Anya could wake up at any moment. If he kept wasting time here and got discovered, the whole effort would be for nothing.

’I can’t get in,’ he thought. ’At least, not yet.’

Li Wei spent another half hour prowling outside. When he scaled the outer wall and returned to their room’s balcony, a chill clinging to him from the night air, Anya was still sound asleep.

Li Wei undressed, took a shower, and then slipped quietly back into bed. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows and spilled across the red rock floor.

When Anya woke up, the more she thought about yesterday, the more she felt something was wrong.

"Sarah seems a little off," she said. "The people here are all lunatics... Don’t you think this place feels a bit like a cult?"

Li Wei said as he got dressed, "What are you going to do? Call Kaja?"

"No," Anya said after a moment’s thought. "That would seem too random. What if I’m just overthinking this? But I still can’t shake this feeling."

"Why don’t you spend some time with Sarah today and try to cheer her up? She’s pregnant, after all. Her hormones might just be out of whack," Li Wei suggested. "And if you’re worried something’s wrong with this place, take the gun and the satellite phone with you. Just in case."

"I’m sorry, honey," Anya said, looking a little embarrassed. "Am I being paranoid? This was supposed to be our graduation trip..."

"It’s okay," Li Wei said in a gentle voice. "I understand your concern. You two are friends, after all, and there’s a baby on the way."

’Of course we’re staying,’ Li Wei added silently to himself.

On the system panel, the reward was still flashing brightly: [Promotion to Knight: Silver Body (Extraordinary), and a ticket to the Royal Knight Academy].

Even if Anya wanted to leave, he would just send her on her way and then come back to take down this so-called "Chaos Nest" himself.

But in Anya’s eyes, it was a completely different picture.

She looked at the tall young man before her, his eyes filled with determination, and a powerful warmth flooded her heart.

He had a promising NFL career ahead of him and was on the verge of earning a fortune, yet he was willing to stay here and indulge her whim and her sympathy, to go along with her wild ideas.

"Thank you," Anya said, moved. She leaned in and gave him a deep kiss on the lips. "You always support me, no matter what."

"Let’s go," Li Wei accepted Anya’s praise without any guilt, covertly slipping the [Ring of Good Fortune] onto her finger to grant her a bit of luck in a critical moment. "Ready to get something to eat?"

"No," said Anya. "I want to eat you first."

She pushed open the heavy, soundproof glass door to the balcony. The dry, hot morning wind, unique to the high desert, instantly flooded the room, completely sweeping away the faint, strange scent of incense from the night before.

Outside lay a grand canyon so deep it was dizzying. In the light of the rising sun, the crimson rock walls seemed to flow with a tranquility that had been frozen for millennia.

Each suite’s balcony was completely separate, ensuring total privacy. It offered an exclusive, uninterrupted view of the boundless wilderness, making one feel as if they were standing on the surface of Mars.

Barefoot, Anya stepped onto the sun-warmed red flagstones. Like a lazy yet devout cat, she traced the line of Li Wei’s long, powerful legs and slowly knelt before him.

No more words were needed, only the faint RUSTLE of fabric.

Li Wei leaned against the railing at the balcony’s edge. The vast chasm behind him and the supreme tenderness before him created a tension that was at once absurd and breathtaking. He tilted his head down slightly, watching the glint of morning light on Anya’s black hair as it moved.

A moist warmth enveloped him completely in the next instant.
