Chapter 46: Chapter 46

Seton studied Henri intently, his expression darkening when someone else stepped in his line of view.

"I’m Rex, I’m also in your class, we spoke earlier!" The Alpha rambled enthusiastically, his mannerisms no different from that of an excitable puppy.

Henri had to take another step back when the Alpha leaned in, recognition clicking in his grey eyes. "Oh, I had no idea that you were a member of the club." He said absent-mindedly, searching for an escape. "Is the President in?"

Rex beamed, happy to be of help. "President Quinn just stepped out but you could wait for him."

Henri hummed when Rex stepped back for him to come in, hoping that the Alpha would keep the distance. "I see," He murmured, walking in.

"While you wait, I wanted to congratulate you on your win and also trouble you for some advice on how to ride faster." Rex trailed after him.

Henri’s response was cut off by Seton who had walked up to them and gestured for Rex to leave, the younger Alpha doing so without question.

Henri sighed, this was even worse, he would rather spend the next two hours giving riding advice to Rex than exchange pleasantries with Seton.

"Your Highness," Seton said amicably.

"Seton," Henri replied, looking at him expectantly. He had been surprised to find that Seton had a lot of self-control, he had taken his loss far better than Henri had expected.

"Could I trouble you to go for a ride with this sore loser?" He said smoothly, hidden intentions dancing behind his placid dark eyes.

’Ah, never mind...’ Henri had been too quick to judge, Seton had merely been biding his time.

"Do you hear how dangerous that proposal sounds?" He said bluntly.

Seton’s eyes widened like he was surprised by Henri’s response. "I’m hurt that you would think that I would cause you any harm."

Henri remained silent, not falling for it.

"How about a drink at the cafeteria then?" He offered.

Henri’s brow furrowed at this as he tried to figure out exactly what Seton was playing at. "What?"

"Humor me." Seton pushed.

Henri could only stare at him blankly, there was quite a lot to unpack here. Firstly, although everyone, Henri inclusive, disapproved of it, wasn’t Seton in a relationship with Errol? Secondly, how did this become the outcome of Henri beating Seton and essentially pushing him off his pedestal? Was Seton unhinged?

"I’m not obligated to." Henri coolly said, walking off. He had intended to have a conversation with Tarquin to know if there were any duties he had to fulfill and perhaps ride Moonlight again but he could do that some other time.

Seton watched Henri leave, clenching his fists to stop himself from taking his wrist again. He supposed that that response was to be expected, it didn’t daunt him, they were in the same club after all, Seton would just try again.

It had been on Seton’s mind ever since Henri challenged him to a race, the Omega had set up shop in his head. His anger at losing to Henri hadn’t come from simply losing a race, there were a variety of reasons all merged together.

Firstly, Seton hated to lose, secondly, he hadn’t even thought of losing till they got to the racecourse, and thirdly, losing meant that he had lost a very useful leverage over Henri.

He didn’t care about Horse riding that much, he didn’t even care about the state championship, it was just easy popularity and it got him what he wanted even before he got to the academy so he stuck with it.

But this was just a mere hurdle at the start of a long race. A race that he was sure to be the winner of.

Louis planned to make some scones at the cooking club. There was a large kitchen and a connecting sitting area so there was enough space for everyone to spread out. He just wanted to quietly and quickly bake some scones to take back to his dorm with Dio.

"Just sit here." He gestured to a high stool behind the counter he had chosen to work on, putting on an apron.

Dio was far too clumsy in the kitchen and Louis didn’t need help so it was better to put the tall, gloomy Alpha out of the way.

Dio’s expression brightened a fraction now that Louis’ sole attention was on him. "Lou, my apron?"

Louis’ deep blue eyes lit up. "You want one too? One moment." He agreed, walking off to find an apron that would properly fit Dio.

After helping him put it on and situating him back on his stool, Louis got ready to bake. Scones were easy to make and he knew the recipe by heart so he just went right to getting out the ingredients and preparing them.

He worked so precisely and fluidly that he started to catch the attention of people around him.

Louis didn’t notice this, rambling off to Dio about the process of baking even though he knew that the other would never bake himself.

Soon a small crowd started to gather to watch, Lyon stepping forward with an awed expression. "I had no idea you were so good at baking." The president beamed, inching closer.

Louis became sheepish. "I’m still learning."

"There’s no need to be so humble, the other first years have set fire to the kitchen thrice already," Florent said, looking straight at Cedric.

There were only three other first years, apart from Louis and Dio. Somehow, Louis felt that all three fires had been caused by the bubbly orange-haired Alpha.

"I put them all out though." Cedric blurted out, not looking the least bit repentant.

"Talk less and watch Louis more, perhaps you’ll learn a thing or two." Florent grumbled.

Dio retreated deeper into his shell as Louis was charged to explain his process as he baked. He could stand up and leave and Louis wouldn’t even notice.

Maybe this was how it was supposed to be. Dio was a dark shadow that constantly blotted out Louis’ brightness. He looked so happy too, Dio should be happy for him as well.

He stood up and walked some distance away, noting how quickly the other Alphas filled up the space he left like Dio had been the one keeping them away.

He would apologize to Louis later for leaving without letting him know but for now, he would just retreat to their dorm room.
