Chapter 31: Chapter 31

"Even if I did do it, don’t you have to turn me into the Prince? This has nothing to do with you." Cecil quickly said, aware that they would soon be found by Perry and Leeson.

"I was given full reign over the case...."

"Can..." Cecil interrupted, sucking in a deep breath. "Can we take this somewhere else?"

"Fine by me." Alois agreed without hesitation, taking Cecil’s hand and pulling him along.

Cecil couldn’t even protest, letting himself be dragged down to the second floor where their dorm room was located.

Perry peeked around the corner that Alois had dragged Cecil into, a frown on his face. "I could have sworn that I heard voices coming from here."

He had but Alois had already dragged Cecil around the next corner by the time he checked.

Leeson was starting to look a bit troubled too. "Do you perhaps think he’s testing us?"

Perry turned to look at him with wide gullible eyes. "You think so?"

Leeson hadn’t been expecting him to fall for his ruse so easily so he went along with it. "O-Of course, Cecil knows that we’re smart enough to act without his presence so he’s trying to test us on it." He said smugly.

Perry was hanging off every Leeson’s words at this point. "So what do we do?"

"What we were ordered to do, of course!" He announced magnanimously.

"So we’re to keep heading to our dorm room?" Perry mumbled, starting to look skeptical.

"Yes, I guarantee we’ll find Cecil waiting there for us."

"You didn’t have to pull me that hard." Cecil protested when they got to the door of their shared dorm room. Alois had finally let go of his wrist in favor of unlocking the door and Cecil found himself rubbing his bruised wrist.

"On the contrary, I believe I’m treating you too nicely for a criminal." Alois retorted.

Cecil couldn’t make out if he was teasing or not. "You have yet to provide proof, you can’t just pronounce me guilty."

Alois opened the door quietly and gestured for Cecil to go in first. After stepping in, Cecil realized that getting in a secluded space with Alois was one of his many mistakes.

Alois made sure to visibly lock the door, slipping the key into his pocket before walking across the room to pull out a board from his shelf.

The board was pinned up with pictures and names, all connecting as they ran across the board.

Cecil felt like the ground opened up underneath him. The pictures and papers on the board were a detailed showing of every single thing he did and every single person he interacted with while completing the ’love letter’ mission.

"H-How?" He stuttered, stumbling backward.

He thought that he had been exceedingly discreet, making sure to leave before Alois woke up and only returning to the dorm room when he was certain that Alois had gone to bed so how in hell had he managed this?

He had even taken pictures without Cecil suspecting even a single thing, it made him weave on his feet.

"Is that proof enough?" Alois asked, returning the board like he had merely been showing off his favorite toy and not proof enough to get Cecil expelled and possibly ruin his life.

Cecil slowly crumbled to the carpeted floor, he had thought that the most proof that Alois would have would be hearsay. He had surely not been expecting a full military report on every single move he made.

Was this really going to be the end? All Alois had to do was show the board to Prince Henri or the school authorities and Cecil’s life would be ruined.

He would not only be expelled and have his father’s name utterly ruined but the entire country would be made aware of the student who had tried to attack the Prince.

There was also Rowe who would break every possible bone in his body when he found out that he had been the one behind his embarrassing scene at the cafeteria. Cecil’s problems just kept compounding.

Alois walked over and crouched in front of Cecil. "Is the severity of your current situation finally sinking in?"

Cecil looked up at him with glassy eyes. "Are you going to turn me in?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m

It was a ridiculous question, of course, Alois was going to turn him in. Born into the top military household, he must have been trained to give his life up for royalty.

But Cecil asked anyway because there was little else to do, he thought he could finally make his father proud but this might be the very reason he would get thrown out on the street.

"Duty would require that I do so." Alois said vaguely, unable to mask the stars in his eyes at the outcome of things.

Although, truthfully, if Alois reported this to Henri, the Prince would dismiss it with a wave of his hand and simply task Alois to keep an eye on Cecil so that there wasn’t a repeat of the ’love letter’ debacle but Cecil didn’t have to know that.

Cecil also didn’t have to know that Alois had been stalking him ever since the day of resumption, He didn’t need to know that Alois had swapped with his original roommate so that he would get to share a room with him instead. Lots of little things that he didn’t need to know.

"However, I could perhaps take the case fully into my hands and inform the Prince that it has been resolved." He leaned even closer, a kindly smile on his face. "Not even the school authorities would need to know."

Cecil was already drowning in the pit of despair, he didn’t even stop to think that Alois could possibly have evil intentions. "Y-You would?" He asked hopefully, grasping for the lifeline offered to him.

"I would, we’re roommates after all." Alois patted him on the shoulder, getting to his feet. "Dare I say, even friends."

Cecil was seated gloomily on his knees on the carpet but at Alois’ words, he sat up higher. "O-Of course, we’re fr-friends."

Alois took off his waistcoat. "I still have to mete out punishment as I see fit or it would undermine my stance on justice." He added sneakily.

Cecil slowed down, thinking hard. What kind of punishment could Alois possibly give him? It didn’t really matter because nothing could possibly be as bad as him losing everything.

"I-I suppose that can’t be helped." He mumbled, a little wary.

Alois couldn’t help his tilted grin, he pulled up the sleeves of his dress shirt and got comfortable on the bed. "Alright, pull down your pants and get on the bed."
