Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Cecil sat at the cafeteria, waiting expectantly, he had even chosen a prime spot where he could clearly see the Prince’s table easily. He had spent the days right after resumption running around bootlicking and cultivating relationships just for the satisfaction of watching royalty get put down.

What he did not expect was for Alois to come in between Rowe and Henri. Where did he even come from? Cecil was certain that he hadn’t been around when he first got to the cafeteria

His anticipation soured, uneasiness crawling up his spine as he watched Henri undo everything he had worked so hard for with a flick of his hand. Who remained that calm when confronted with something as scandalous as a love letter right in the middle of the entire cafeteria? It wasn’t fair.

He hated that Henri bested him without even trying.

And Alois! Alois was the General’s son?! What kind of terrible luck did Cecil have? How did he end up being roommates with the singular most loyal person to the Prince in the whole school?

While he was deep in thought about his woes, the wrestling team walked past his table, reminding Cecil that he also had another problem. Rowe would be on the search for the person that had put a fake letter in his locker.

"Cecil? Isn’t that your roommate?" Leeson shook him out of his panicked state, tilting his head at the Prince’s table. "He knows the Prince?"

"Why is he staring at you?" Perry added.

Cecil forced a strained smile. "No, he’s not." He answered vaguely to both their questions. "Don’t ask me about it again, I’m planning my next step."

Leeson and Perry knew to back off, waiting on Cecil to decide on how they were going to salvage the situation. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Cecil kept a brooding expression on while ice dripped down his spine. ’Surely, Alois could not possibly know that he was the one behind the love letter.’

The more he thought about it, the deeper his heart sank, it must be why his odd roommate had always unsettled him.

He lifted his head and scanned the cafeteria, unwittingly searching for Alois, and was slightly surprised to not find him at the Prince’s table.

The other students in the cafeteria had also resumed their daily activities, it was like the past moments never happened, and even those seated at Henri’s table didn’t act any differently. This made Cecil sigh in relief, perhaps he was just overthinking it. He made sure to properly cover his tracks, there was no way Alois could be onto him.

But it would be best if he stayed out of Alois’ sights for the rest of the day, just to remain safe.

"We’re leaving now." He placed a hand on the table to alert the other two.

"Where are we going?" Perry asked curiously, his boggled eyes wide.

Cecil thought about it, where would be the best possible place to hide? He definitely couldn’t return to his shared room with the enemy, he had to hide out somewhere else for the time being.

"Your dorm room." He decided shortly, getting to his feet.

Alois didn’t know where Leeson and Perry’s shared dorm room was so it should hide him perfectly for the time being.

"And what are we doing about Hen..."

Cecil shot a murderous glare at Perry, the other clamming his lips shut right away.

"What have you got for brains? A sack of flour?" Leeson taunted.

Perry was stung by this. "Shut it, I wasn’t asking you."

As they walked out of the cafeteria, Cecil slowly fell behind, deep in thought. Although he had dismissed their words, they had shaken him deeply.

There were few students on the covered walkways that led to the year one dormitory because most of the other students were either at the cafeteria or out exploring the rest of the school grounds.

The dorms were even emptier which meant that Cecil had made the right decision by choosing to return to the dormitory. Even if he dared to entertain the thought that Alois knew all about him, he would be hiding in plain sight by camping in an unfamiliar dorm room in the meantime.

He still had his smarts and sharp wit even if he had just been thwarted by the General’s son. It was expected that he would be defeated when going up against someone like that and the Prince himself.

This was no reason to lose his confidence, this was just the first step of his plans after all. He would keep at it, slowly but surely tainting the Prince’s gold-tinted imag...

His lofty thoughts of besting Henri were cut short when he was pulled into a corner, a hand covering the lower part of his face as he was pushed against a wall.

"Running?" Alois asked coolly, his sharp dark eyes staring him down.

Cecil immediately bit down on his finger, keeping his panic from his face when Alois pulled his hand away. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. Unhand me right..."

"Shh." Alois interrupted him. "You don’t want to drag your lackeys into this, do you?" He threatened with a smile.

Cecil glared darkly at him. "What do you want?" He whispered furiously.

Alois finally backed off with his hands up in a pose of surrender. "Merely following orders. His Highness ordered me to investigate who was behind the attempt to smear his name." freēwēbηovel.c૦m

A lump formed in Cecil’s throat. "You have no proof." He stated boldly.

At this point, Perry noticed that something was off. They had almost gotten to the end of the hallway before the lanky Alpha noticed that Cecil was gone.

"Where did Cecil go?" He muttered in confusion, turning around.

"We were together the entire time, why are you asking me?" Leeson grumbled.

Perry refused to be baited, more interested in finding Cecil. "Cecil! Where did you go? Cecil!" He called loudly, walking back in the direction they were coming from.

"No need to be so obnoxious about it, It’s not like he’s been kidnapped."

Cecil’s eyes widened the closer their voices got, his panic growing.

"Would you like me to provide proof?" Alois asked calmly, an evil light in his dark green eyes.

Cecil gulped, still leaning against the wall. He had every reason to be wary of Alois because his instincts had been screaming ever since the first time they bumped into each other. So he was very certain that Alois did indeed have proof to back up his claims.

Cecil would never admit it but he didn’t want Leeson and Perry’s image of him to be ruined. He would rather take the fall himself and then go back to them like nothing happened.
