Chapter 163: Chapter 163

Jacques quickly found a hidden space underneath an outcropping to hide in, the trees and shrubs grew thickly around here providing the perfect cover. "Let’s hide here," He said to Audie who had been trailing behind him this entire time, gesturing for him to go first.

He expected Audie to have something witty to say about the place he found but the Alpha just quietly crawled into the dim space. Thankfully the dirt was dry and it didn’t have bugs crawling around, it was perfect.

Audie had been strangely quiet throughout their walk here, it was unsettling but it was also an ego boost to be able to tame him with the slightest of gestures.

Jacques got in after he did, sitting across from the other with his elbows supported on his knees. Fortunately, it was cool in the makeshift cave, the coldness of the stone seeping in through his cotton shirt.

It was silent save for the distant chirping of birds and insects, and the sounds of rustling leaves. Nothing but unsteady breathing filled up the dim but cool space, Jacques decided to break the silence. "Are you comfortabl-"

"Shut up," Audie rasped, hardly letting him complete his question. He lightly panted as he leaned against the rock wall, his eyes slipping shut.

If he kept his eyes shut like this, he could almost pretend that he was all alone in this cramped space. When he did that, it was peaceful, the throbbing in his body dulled a bit and his limbs went lax. All of that peacefulness shattered when he opened his eyes to find Jacques mere inches from him, a curious expression on the other Alpha’s face.

Audie darted to the side with blinding speed, dark anger on his face. "What the fuck are you doing?" He demanded, scrambling backward till his back touched the rock wall again.

Now he was hemmed in on all sides by the rock wall and Jacques but he was yet to realize how detrimental his current position was, too busy trying to rein in the urge to kick Jac’s face in.

"I thought you had passed out, I was just making sure you were alright," Jacques said quietly, he even sounded a little hurt.

Audie gritted his teeth, "Of course, I’m fine, stop shoving your ugly face in mine." He grumbled, settling for kinder words than the ones he intended to say.

"So are you comfortable?" Jacques had the nerve to ask again, leaning closer once more.

Audie didn’t hesitate to put a booted foot on Jacques’ chest to stop him, he was livid. "I said I’m fine, stop fucking-"

"Shh..." Jacques suddenly said, going rigid.

Audie was already on a roll, he wasn’t about to stop. "You shh... you’ve been the one talking and annoying me this entire time and now you want me to... Ah-ahh..." A short scream ended his tirade when Jacques caught his ankle and pulled his leg over his shoulder to bring them closer.

His eyes widened in horror when Jacques leaned over to press their lips together. He was in a very uncomfortable position too, his leg that was caught in Jacques’ hold was folded over him while the other one was on the other Alpha’s side. Without hesitation, he caught Jacques’ bottom lips between his teeth and bit down hard on in.

Jacques pulled slightly back at this, his free hand that had been placed on Audie’s waist pushing up his shirt there to get at the bare skin underneath.

Audie gasped in pain when Jacques pinched his side, ready to let loose a litany of curses and to push him off when the other kissed him again. His lips were still parted and Jacques used the chance to deepen the kiss, pressing even closer.

His arms went lax when he felt Jacques’ tongue touch his, it suddenly felt far too hot in the cool enclosure. Audie threw a hand over his face when Jacques pulled away, too mortified to even move. It was a good thing that it was so dim in the cave because he was sure that his face was a bright red.

Jacques didn’t even make a move to let him go, still holding him down in such a suggestive position. "There were people passing by." He deadpanned.

"Shut up," Audie said but his voice lacked considerable strength, it made his face burn hotter at how he had sounded. Couldn’t the cave just collapse and bury him?

Claude and Henri had managed to put some distance between them and the assailants but they couldn’t let their guard down and they had to constantly be on the move.

Henri didn’t find this very fun, he was out of breath and sweaty, and it felt like his legs were about to give in. At that point in their journey, he was leaning all of his weight on Claude. He didn’t complain outwardly though because he knew that Claude would offer to carry him and Henri didn’t want to cause him more trouble.

He tripped for the umpteenth time, glaring daggers at the stray root that had tried to kill him. He resolutely marched on though, it would be getting dark soon, and it would be dangerous for them to still be on the run when that happened.

Claude slowed down to a stop when he tripped again, this time it was on thin air, he had gotten to his limit. "What’s wrong?" Henri looked up with a frown.

The Alpha drove into the ground a sword that he had picked up from one of the Alphas from the last group they fought, he said nothing as he stepped forward and picked Henri up. freewёbnoνel.com

"Put me down, you can’t fight if you’re carrying me." Henri tried to say authoritatively but the fatigue was evident in his voice.

"If I can’t fight, then I’ll run," Claude said casually like it wasn’t a big deal.

"Wait-" Henri tried to stop him but they already had company again. Just how many were the attackers? freewēbnoveℓ.com

"There they are! After them!"

"Pardon me, Your Highness," Claude said steadily, taking off.

"Stop apologizing and put me down!" Henri protested, too tired to even struggle.

Claude didn’t listen to him, he more or less expected that. Henri just sighed and gave in, he wouldn’t admit it even with a sword up to his neck but it was nice being carried around.

He started to get anxious when it seemed like Claude was running up an incline, "Are we going up a hill?" He asked in consternation.

Claude’s expression was grave but he remained calm, "They hemmed us in from all sides, they intend to trap us here."

"You don’t sound very worried... you’ve lost your sword!" Henri reminded in a panic. "That’s it, put me down right now."

"I deeply apologize, Your Highness." Was Claude’s only response but he didn’t slow down once, the sound of menacing footsteps following closely behind them.

Henri was about to pull out his hair from frustration, "I’d prefer if you stopped apologizing and listened to me instead."

Claude only stopped when the elevated surface ended up on a cliff, he stood at the very edge and then turned around to find their attackers closing in on them.
