Chapter 200: Chapter 128: You Just Have to Wait on the Side
"These are Hidden Earthworms," Fang Na said. "Their bodies are naturally transparent, making them difficult to spot with the naked eye. They also possess an innate, magic-like ability to shield themselves from Spiritual Power scans and aura detection. They’re the perfect Magical Creatures for infiltration."
Yan Dong added, "If we combine the Hidden Earthworms with the Animal Parasite Spell, we should be able to get a clear picture of the situation inside the castle."
Pei Ze was secretly amazed; this was the first time he’d ever heard of a Magical Creature like the Hidden Earthworm.
Given the breadth of his knowledge, there should have been very few Magical Creatures he wasn’t aware of.
However, considering that countless Wizards researched and cultivated new Magical Creatures every year, it wasn’t so strange to encounter an unfamiliar one.
These Hidden Earthworms were most likely the product of some Wizard’s experiment.
As Fang Na chanted another spell, the Hidden Earthworms burrowed into the ground one after another and disappeared.
Meanwhile, Yan Dong closed his eyes and began casting the Animal Parasite Spell.
"Good, they’ve successfully entered the castle."
"Hmm... I sense a very strong aura of divine favor. It’s located in the center of the castle. Just as I thought, there’s a statue of Lady Frost here as well."
"There are other powerful fluctuations of divine favor nearby. One, two, three, four... a total of four Official Priests. From the looks of it, they’re conducting a prayer ritual. This is good news for us."
"Let me see... one of the fluctuations is particularly strong. That must be a Second-Class Priest!"
"A Second-Class Priest’s spiritual sense is very sharp. I can’t get too close, or we’ll be easily discovered."
"I’ve found the location of the underground prison."
"There are many Divine Art traps set up here. The Hidden Earthworms can’t go too deep..."
Yan Dong’s eyes snapped open, a trace of joy in his gaze.
"I found Cheng He! He’s in the underground prison!"
Joy appeared on Fang Na’s face as well.
After expending so much effort, they had finally found their comrade’s whereabouts.
But a problem immediately followed: how were they going to rescue Cheng He?
Yan Dong frowned in thought for a moment, then gritted his teeth and said to Pei Ze, "Pei Ze, how about we team up?"
"We don’t want the mission reward. We just need to rescue Cheng He."
To Yan Dong, it was clear that neither Pei Ze, nor he and Fang Na, could conquer defensive fortification #89 on their own.
But if they joined forces, there was a glimmer of hope.
This proposal was also highly beneficial to Pei Ze. He shouldn’t refuse.
But to their surprise, Pei Ze just shook his head and said with a faint smile, "No need for all that trouble."
"As payment for helping me scout the garrison’s forces, I will help you two rescue your comrade. You just need to wait on the sidelines."
Yan Dong and Fang Na were stunned.
’Does he mean he’s going to attack defensive fortification #89 by himself?’
’Has he gone mad?’
’I clearly told him there were four Winter Frost Priests in the castle, and even a Second-Class Priest! How can he possibly think he can handle this alone?’
Yan Dong frowned, about to try and persuade Pei Ze again, but the latter had already begun to act, flinging out a handful of seeds.
The moment they hit the ground, the seeds burst open. Green sprouts emerged, growing thicker and longer at a speed visible to the naked eye.
In the blink of an eye, thirteen oak trees, each over thirty meters tall and seven or eight meters in diameter, stood before them.
CRUNCH! CRACK!
The bark on the front of the oak trees suddenly twisted, and faces resembling those of humans faintly appeared. They opened their mouths wide and let out deep, booming cries.
"Oak Guardians!"
Yan Dong and Fang Na immediately recognized the creatures before them and were both shocked.
’These are powerful Magical Creatures with combat strength comparable to a Tier Two Legendary Knight!’
Yan Dong looked at Pei Ze in astonishment. ’I never expected him to have a trump card like this.’
These thirteen Oak Guardians alone were more than enough to annihilate a detachment of the Sect Knight Order.
Even a Level 1 Gaseous Wizard would be hard-pressed to deal with these thirteen tough-hided Oak Guardians.
While Yan Dong and Fang Na were still in shock, the thirteen Oak Guardians had already begun their assault on the castle.
They slowly moved their tangled, thick root systems, their massive trunks lumbering toward the castle like heavy war chariots.
The Turin soldiers on the walls were the first to spot the invaders and immediately sounded the alarm bell.
As the clear CLANG! CLANG! of the bell spread, the entire castle immediately sprang into action like a well-oiled machine.
Large numbers of fully armed Knights rushed onto the walls, quickly taking their posts.
RUMBLE! A row of ports opened up in the upper-middle section of the outer wall. Ballistae, their surfaces engraved with Array Patterns, extended out, their cold, sharp bolts aimed at the invaders.
At the same time, a pale blue halo abruptly appeared above the castle. It then burst like a firework, streams of light scattering in all directions and falling to form a transparent, bowl-shaped shield that enveloped the entire castle.
CLANK! CLANK! CLANK!
Accompanied by the sound of heavy footsteps and the crisp clatter of metal plates rubbing together, a large man in heavy armor walked onto the wall. With a cold and stern expression, he asked, "What’s the situation?"
An officer immediately stepped forward and answered, "Sir, it’s the Wizards from Red Maple City!"
"The only attacking force we’ve identified so far are the thirteen Oak Guardians. The enemy Wizards are likely keeping their distance; we haven’t pinpointed their location yet."
"Those sneaky outsiders again." The man snorted. He turned to look at the Oak Guardians beyond the walls, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. With a sharp wave of his hand, he commanded, "Activate the ballistae! Blast them to smithereens!"
"Yes, Sir!"
