Chapter 125: Chapter 105: New Mission
He didn’t have to wait long. Soon enough, Lin Mo had a chance to try.
Another Goblin squad appeared before them. Lin Mo charged forward as usual. This time, he didn’t use his dagger, instead casting an Ice Cone Skill aimed directly at a Goblin’s eye.
"SWOOSH—!"
With a whistle through the air, the Ice Cone accurately pierced the Goblin’s eyeball and ran through its brain.
It instantly collapsed, twitched a couple of times, and then went still.
’I did it!’
Lin Mo’s eyes lit up. Although he had only managed it by hitting a fragile vital point like the eye, as long as he could kill in one hit, his practice would be much easier from now on.
He cast a few more Ice Cone Skills in the same fashion, raising his Skill Level to 6/20. By then, Lin Mo’s Magic Power was depleted, and only one Goblin remained.
’Can’t let a single one go to waste.’ Lin Mo drew his Wolf Bone Sword and, with an understated "Stabbing," dispatched the last Goblin.
His teammates behind him exchanged glances, feeling a little left out.
Normally, when a party with a Mage ran into Low Level monsters like these, they wouldn’t have the Mage attack.
Everyone knew a Mage’s Magic Power was precious and should be saved for critical moments.
But the Mage on their team was a different story. The moment he saw Goblins, he would just blast them with Magic, saying he wanted to hone his techniques in the heat of battle.
The reasoning was sound, but who in their right mind would use Goblins to practice their Magic?
’It’s an honor for these Goblins to die by Magic, I suppose.’
Among the entire party, only Feney had a certain understanding of Magic. She clearly saw Lin Mo’s progress, and as she marveled at the speed of his improvement, her own convictions grew stronger.
’Indeed,’ she thought, ’only through arduous training and practical experience can one truly improve.’
"Let’s rest for a bit. This way, we can raid the Goblin Settlement this afternoon."
They had continued onward for a stretch, and when only the last tenth of their journey remained, Alton had looked at the sky and made his decision.
The group checked their surroundings, and after confirming there were no bugs or snakes, they sprinkled some Insect Repellent and sat on the ground.
Feney watched everything the others did, carefully copying their actions.
There was a big difference between book knowledge and practical application. Even though she had studied all of this before, it was hard to get everything right on her first try.
Lin Mo glanced in her direction, remembered what Flora had asked of him, and set down his pack before walking over.
"You don’t need to use so much, just a little is fine... A bit more evenly, like this..."
Lin Mo took the Insect Repellent from her hand and gave a simple demonstration.
He hadn’t known how to do these things at first either; he had learned them all bit by bit on his adventures.
"Here, you try again."
"Mm."
Feney nodded and nervously took the packet from his hand. Copying his earlier movements, she began sprinkling the powder bit by bit.
Lin Mo smiled and said, "Not bad. That’s pretty much it. You’ll get the hang of it with practice."
"Okay!"
Feney replied happily, then added, "Thank you."
She studied the rather handsome young man before her with curiosity. After confirming her place in the party yesterday, she had nervously asked Flora all about them.
Flora had said very little about the others, but she had said a great deal about the young man named Lin Mo.
His exceptional talent, his kindhearted nature, and his occasional habit of making her angry...
She didn’t think she had ever heard Flora use so many words to describe someone before.
Ali was hugging her knees, her chin resting on them as she stared intently in their direction. She didn’t say anything, just blinked, her eyes fixed on Lin Mo.
Feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, Lin Mo gave a helpless smile. He sat down beside her, used Fireball Technique to light a bonfire, and started making his special little burgers.
Ali loved them; she always asked him to make them whenever they took a break.
Feney took a red wooden box from her backpack. It contained exquisite pastries she had brought from home. She nibbled on one as she watched them with curiosity.
’The food in Lin Mo’s hands doesn’t look very healthy, and it seems simple to make. My mother would never have let me eat something like that.’ This made her all the more curious about what it tasted like.
But after hesitating for a long time, she was ultimately too shy to ask.
Ali happily hummed a little tune while eating the "burger" Lin Mo had just made for her. When her eyes met Feney’s, she shot her a triumphant look.
Feney tilted her head in confusion, not understanding the meaning behind the look at all. She just lowered her head and continued to take small, delicate bites of her pastry.
Her movements were very elegant. Beneath her round white hat, her face was round and looked delightfully pinchable.
The short, post-meal break ended quickly. They needed to reach their destination during the afternoon.
They trod carefully for the rest of the journey. Though it was a time of day when one might grow complacent, Goblins in a settlement were different from scattered ones. There was no telling if they had posted sentries.
Sure enough, about two or three kilometers from the settlement, they encountered a patrolling Goblin squad.
There weren’t many of them, only three or four. Lin Mo and Carson exchanged a look and, with perfect coordination, struck at the same time.
A few Goblins trudged through the woods, looking completely listless. Although their superiors had assigned them patrol duty, their intelligence clearly wasn’t high enough to grasp the significance of the task. In practice, they were just going through the motions.
It was therefore impossible for them to notice the approaching danger.
Carson suddenly burst from the shadows, his dagger effortlessly piercing one of the Goblin’s throats.
