Chapter 212: Chapter 137: A Dark and Windy Night for Killing (3)
Mei Ning smiled and stroked the mantis creature, not at all surprised.
She was well aware of her aunt’s influence—a major figure in the Biotechnology Company, a true executive who could shift the power dynamics of the entire city.
"But..."
Her eyes flashed. She then looked up at Ruan Hui and asked with a playful smile, "Cousin, did you get your hands on something good?"
The expedition force had suffered a major defeat. Whatever the real reason, the fallout was considerable, especially since he was still serving with them.
And yet, Ruan Hui seemed to be in high spirits, as if he’d gained something else from the ordeal.
Instantly, all eyes turned to him.
Meeting their curious gazes, Ruan Hui gave a slight smile and snapped his fingers.
"Bring it down."
As his voice fell, a security guard came down from the second floor, carrying a black backpack.
As everyone watched with curiosity, the bag was unzipped.
Inside was an oval Beast Egg the size of a human head.
It was entirely gray, its surface dotted with several grayish-black spots that resembled etched scales.
Upon seeing this, Mei Ning and the others stared wide-eyed, their breath catching in their throats.
As top students from Ring Academy’s inner school, they had naturally seen plenty of bestiaries on wild Mutant Beasts and knew exactly what this was.
"An Earth Dragon Lizard’s Beast Egg?"
Lin Zhou exclaimed, the envy on his face practically overflowing.
The Earth Dragon Lizard, one of the Wild Beast Kings outside of Ring City.
It’s born at the peak of the Professional Level, and after a year or so of growth, it reaches the Elite Level.
If it reaches adulthood, it has at least a seventy percent chance of becoming a Beast King.
In an instant, everyone’s faces were a picture of shock and envy.
These young men and women, all from prominent families and typically so arrogant, cast aside their composure and stepped forward one by one to touch the Beast Egg.
Ruan Hui watched the entire scene with an amused glint in his eyes, his gaze sweeping over the group.
An amused and self-satisfied smile touched his lips as he walked over to the sofa and slowly sat down.
"The Earth Dragon Lizard has been laying eggs recently, and it’s clashed with another Beast King."
"I was ordered to ambush a small contingent of Lu Shan’s troops. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and got lucky,"
he said, making it sound effortless.
He made it sound easy, but everyone knew it must have been planned in advance.
They didn’t call him out on it. Instead, they flocked to him with smiles and congratulations, surrounding him like stars clustering around the moon.
Mei Ning and the others knew that, barring any surprises, in a few years, even if Ruan Hui couldn’t reach the Superpower Level himself, he could rely on this scion of a Beast King to attain the same level of status and standing.
"Cousin, with a haul like this, you taking over for your aunt in the future is set in stone."
"That being the case, you have to help us settle the score with our little problem."
Seeing he was in a good mood, the time was ripe.
Seizing the opportunity, Mei Ning sat beside him and explained what she wanted. Around them, Xu Feng, Lin Zhou, and the others quickly chimed in.
"That’s right, Ruan Hui. We’ve been following your orders and putting up with that bastard for a long time."
"Senior Ruan Hui, you have no idea. That lowlife is so arrogant, he doesn’t show anyone respect. You have to help us make him answer for this."
As they spoke one after another, Guo Yun and the few others on the periphery watched with excited eyes, nodding repeatedly and chiming in.
Seeing the cold, murderous intent in their eyes, Ruan Hui gave a wry smile and stopped keeping them in suspense.
"I already have a plan for this."
His tone was indifferent as he leaned back against the soft leather sofa.
With a slight wave of his hand, the head of security from earlier approached and handed him a specially-made smart tablet.
"After all, he’s got Vice Director Liu’s attention, and he’s backed by that old fossil Luo Qianshan."
"To get rid of him, we can’t expose our involvement. At the very least, we can’t be the primary suspects, or we’ll have trouble later."
His finger slid across the tablet screen as he tapped it, appearing to navigate to a specific website.
Beside him, Mei Ning and the others held their breath and leaned in to look, listening as he spoke. "Ostensibly, I’ll put a contract out on the Dark Web and have people from Deep Sea make the first move. That’ll be the red herring."
"Then, behind the scenes, I’ll send a few Elite Level operatives with bioweapons to finish the job."
"This way, no one will have proof that we did it."
As he said this, he swept his gaze over the crowd.
A chill went down their spines. Mei Ning and the others understood the unspoken meaning in his eyes.
Everyone here was a co-conspirator. If anyone dared to leak the plan, the consequences went without saying.
In that instant,
everyone voiced their agreement. Lin Zhou, Guo Yun, and the others broke into gleeful, vengeful smiles.
"As expected of Ruan Hui, this plan is perfect."
"Hahaha, and once the dust settles, we’ll have to take out his friends, too."
"That’s right, we’ll wipe them all out together... hahaha."
Amid their unbridled laughter, they could almost picture Lu Chao on his knees, begging for mercy before being killed on the spot.
Ruan Hui was no different, a cold smile on his face.
’How dare he steal something that belongs to me?’
The memory of having his credit stolen flashed through his mind, and a cold, murderous light entered his eyes.
He went back to tapping the tablet screen and sneered, "That lackey should have died long ago."
"Letting him live a few extra months... when you think about it, he should be thanking me for my benevolence..."
BANG!!
A sudden, muffled explosion!
Before Ruan Hui and the others could react, the body of a security guard came flying backward, smashing through the glass doors and crashing into the main hall.
With a CRASH,
glass shards flew everywhere, followed by the wet, gurgling sound of someone choking on blood.
A security guard, clearly a trained fighter, collapsed to the ground, dead in an instant. Gasps of alarm then erupted from outside in the villa grounds.
Their faces fell. Mei Ning and the others whipped their heads around to look.
Ruan Hui froze as well, his eyes fixed on the commotion.
BOOM!
A bolt of lightning suddenly split the night sky as the dark clouds overhead grew ever thicker.
It was an omen of a coming storm. At some point, a gaping hole had been smashed through the villa’s sturdy perimeter wall.
The next instant.
BOOM!!
Lightning flashed high above, briefly illuminating the ground.
Their gazes followed the light to the collapsed section of the wall.
A powerfully-built figure in black clothes and a mask had appeared there silently.
