Chapter 211: Chapter 137: A Dark and Windy Night for Murder (Part 2)
Several voices drifted from inside the villa.
Seeing the well-trained, disciplined security guards from the Biotechnology Company, Guo Yun and his companions in the villa’s first-floor hall looked on with envy, whispering among themselves.
Following their gaze, one could see the hall’s brightly polished floor tiles and vast, open space. An exquisite crystal chandelier hung overhead, casting a soft, gentle light.
A brown leather sofa sat in the center of the hall, with a velvet rug spread beneath it and a marble coffee table. The walls on either side were adorned with priceless oil paintings.
"How dare nobodies like Guo Yun disturb Senior Ruan Hui?"
Four or five young men and women were sitting and standing around the sofa in the hall.
The leader of the group, a red-haired woman in a light-colored trench coat, sat in the center with her arms crossed, carrying herself like a queen bee. The other young men and women around her were pale, as if recovering from a serious illness, but their aristocratic air was unmistakable.
"Come on, Lin Zhou, look at the bigger picture."
"Those guys might be useless, but they’re good at digging up information."
Xu Feng, one of their circle, grinned and said, leaning back on the sofa and gesturing with a slight wave of his hand.
Seven or eight male and female servants in uniform stood waiting in the hall. Seeing his gesture, one of them quickly approached, bowed slightly, and brought over an assortment of fruits, drinks, and specialty fruit wines.
"Is that so? I guess those losers are useful for something, then."
The ill-tempered Lin Zhou shot another glance at Guo Yun’s group in the distance. Though her expression was full of contempt, she looked away.
Xu Feng, unfazed by her attitude, paid it no mind and simply took the drink and had a sip.
The sweet taste that flooded his palate brought a moment of relaxation.
He then noticed the grim expressions on the others’ faces and Mei Ning’s complete silence.
A glint in his eyes, he sat up straight and said, "To be honest, being grounded for a month has been driving me crazy."
"Since we’re all here today, Mei Ning, we’ll have to trouble you to put in a word later. We have to get Senior Ruan Hui to help us, no matter what, so we can finally take care of this."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Zhou and the others nodded quietly, looking at Mei Ning with expectant eyes.
The humiliation they had suffered at the academy that day was something they just couldn’t shake. They had endured it for over a month and couldn’t hold back any longer.
"Don’t worry."
The red-haired Mei Ning didn’t refuse, simply nodding. "Since Cousin asked us all to come here, it must be to discuss this matter."
"Besides..."
Her eyelids lowered, her sharp eyes glinting with malice. Mei Ning scoffed, "That mud-leg actually broke through to the Elite Level."
"He probably thinks no one can touch him now."
Amid cold sneers, Lin Zhou and the others nodded in agreement, their eyes dark and their faces murderous.
An Elite Level expert was impressive, but with their family backgrounds, they could summon such powerhouses at any time.
"A genius, you say? Killing a genius is what makes it interesting."
"Exactly. And with the crusade team in trouble, the city’s in chaos. Even if we do it, no one will know it was us."
"We’ll make him get on his knees and beg for mercy, kowtow to us. Better yet, we should record it and show it to Jinshi Boxing Hall, haha."
As they laughed and joked, a trace of jealousy they themselves didn’t notice began to grow, creeping into the depths of their hearts.
Overhearing snippets of the conversation from their corner of the living room, Guo Yun and his companions exchanged a look. They were stunned at first, then nodded discreetly and breathed a sigh of relief.
’Looks like that guy is a dead man.’
"That’s right, to think he dared to provoke Mei Ning and Xu Feng..."
"Now, even if Ruan Hui doesn’t get involved, he’s a dead man for sure."
A hint of schadenfreude appeared in Guo Yun’s eyes.
He had been panicked and worried when he first heard that the guy had broken through to the Elite Level.
But now, it seemed this threat would soon be eliminated.
TAP! TAP!
As he was thinking, the sound of crisp footsteps came from the indoor staircase.
Everyone, from Guo Yun’s group to Mei Ning’s circle on the sofa, stopped talking and looked up.
A figure appeared on the second-floor landing and staircase.
He had long black hair and was dressed in expensive black casual wear. His features were handsome, his expression indifferent as he slowly descended step by step.
During his descent, two one-meter-tall, mantis-like bioweapons appeared silently behind him. Their sturdy bionic limbs bore scratches from past battles, and their crimson eyes swiveled back and forth, turning to gaze at Mei Ning’s group as if they possessed some form of intelligence.
"Bioweapons?"
"Cousin, when did you get your hands on these?"
Mei Ning was the first to speak, breaking the silence as she stepped forward to greet him.
The others, equally curious, followed her, their eyes fixed on the mantis-like bioweapons.
These were weapons from the bio-augmentation modification path, possessing a degree of artificial intelligence that allowed them to act freely and eliminate targets on their handler’s command.
They were typically priceless and almost impossible to buy on the open market.
"A gift from the family."
Ruan Hui smiled faintly, seemingly in a good mood, and pointed a finger.
One of the mantises behind him immediately separated from its partner and walked over to Mei Ning, allowing her to reach out and stroke its exoskeleton like an obedient pet.
"Two ’Mantis IV’ models. Their combat power is roughly equivalent to a veteran Elite Level expert."
"Speaking of which, I have these two little guys to thank for my trip outside the city. It wouldn’t have gone so smoothly without them."
At his words, Guo Yun and his companions were filled with envy. While Xu Feng and his friends were slightly better at hiding it, they still clicked their tongues in amazement.
Bioweapons comparable to the Elite Level?
Their value was difficult to estimate. The key was that these things operated on their own base logic, making them far more obedient than a typical Elite Level human.
"I see. This must be a gift from Aunt, then."
