Chapter 472: Chapter 465: She Suddenly Felt a Bit Superfluous
Sienna Hale looked at him with exasperation. "Seth, you’re still defending her even now? You..."
"That’s enough!" A stern, deep voice cut Sienna Hale off. It was Theodore Quinn, who had been silent ever since he came in.
Sienna Hale turned to look at her husband, her lips moving as if she still wanted to speak. But Autumn Shelby quickly took her by the arm and tried to soothe her. "Aunt Sienna, at a time like this, we shouldn’t be arguing about who’s to blame. The most important thing is for Seth to rest and recover in peace, don’t you agree?"
’Although she wanted to use this incident to worsen Clara Grant’s image in the eyes of Seth’s parents, she could tell from the tone of Theodore Quinn’s two words that he didn’t want to discuss it further. In that case, why not take the initiative to pacify Sienna and smooth things over?’
’At least it wouldn’t make Seth and Uncle Quinn think she was genuinely trying to sow discord.’
Sienna Hale looked at Autumn Shelby, seemingly reluctant to let it go, but in the end, she sighed and patted her hand. "I was just so worried about Seth, I wasn’t thinking straight."
Then she pulled over a stool, sat down by the bed, and looked at Seth. "Son, you just focus on getting better. Mom’s right here with you, okay? And... your dad, Miles, we’re all here with you."
Sienna Hale had originally wanted to say that Autumn was there too, but she was afraid of upsetting her son, so she changed her words at the last second.
Theodore Quinn also stepped closer to the bed. Unlike Sienna Hale, his face wasn’t filled with heartache and worry. He just stared at his son’s complexion for a moment before saying, "It may be a gunshot wound, but it doesn’t look too serious. Rest well and focus on your recovery."
His words immediately drew Sienna Hale’s ire. She shot her husband a glare and muttered in displeasure, "What do you mean, ’it doesn’t look too serious’? It’s a gunshot wound! That’s not a small thing. The way you talk, it’s like you don’t care about your own son at all."
Autumn added in a low voice, "Aunt Sienna, that’s not what Uncle Quinn meant. He is, of course, also concerned about Seth."
As soon as Autumn Shelby finished speaking, Clara Grant saw a faint smile finally appear on Sienna Hale’s face as she turned to look at Autumn.
Watching them all gathered around Seth’s bedside, watching Sienna Hale—who was supposed to be her mother-in-law—be so close and affectionate with another woman who loved Seth, Clara Grant suddenly felt like she didn’t belong.
She glanced at them a few more times, a desolate look on her face, before turning and walking out of the hospital room.
Autumn Shelby, who had been looking at Sienna Hale, turned her head to watch Clara Grant’s retreating back, a flicker of coldness in her eyes.
Sienna Hale suddenly seemed to remember something. She scanned the hospital room, her dissatisfaction growing. "Even if this was to cover for someone and keep us from finding out, you didn’t have to use such a small hospital. They call this a VIP room? Look at this place, these conditions! How can this possibly compare to a major hospital?"
With that, she looked at Miles Quinn and ordered, "Miles, go contact another hospital for your brother. We’re transferring him immediately."
Hearing his mother’s words, Seth Quinn sighed in resignation.
Miles Quinn also looked weary but patiently explained, "Mom, that’s not why we had my brother stay in this hospital. The situation was an emergency, so naturally, we chose the nearest one. But don’t worry, we had Rowan Linden bring in a team of specialists to perform the surgery.
But he also said my brother’s condition is too unstable to be moved right now, so it’s not a good idea to transfer him immediately. We have to wait a couple of days until he’s stabilized."
"That’s right," Theodore Quinn chimed in. "Whether we transfer him or not, we have to listen to the doctors."
Listening to their conversation, Autumn Shelby quietly took a few steps back. When she saw that no one was paying attention to her, she slipped silently out of the room.
