Chapter 470: Chapter 463: Who Was Idle Enough to Run Their Mouth to You?
Seth Quinn watched his mother shed tears, feeling a bit helpless. He gestured with his eyes toward his injury. "The wound is on my back. It didn’t hit anything vital. I’m fine. It’ll heal in no time."
Sienna Hale’s hands trembled as she pulled his clothes aside to look at the wound. Seeing that it was no longer bleeding, she finally let out a small sigh of relief.
"You make it sound so simple. ’Heal in no time?’ This is a gunshot wound, you know. How could it possibly heal that easily?"
"Well, well, Mom. You even know it’s a gunshot wound? Your sources are pretty good," Miles Quinn said, seeing that his older brother was out of danger. He felt relieved enough to joke around, raising an eyebrow at Sienna Hale with a half-smile.
Sienna Hale shot her younger son an annoyed glare and retorted angrily, "If my sources weren’t so good, does that mean you weren’t planning on telling us about this at all?"
"Mom, we just haven’t had the chance yet. Big Brother is injured, and Sister-in-law has been here taking care of him the whole time. When would she have had a moment to tell you? Besides, we didn’t tell you and Dad because we didn’t want you to worry."
Seeing his mother’s anger, Miles Quinn quickly tried to explain. When he said "Sister-in-law," he deliberately emphasized the word, clearly intending for Autumn Shelby to hear.
He also made a point of stressing that Clara Grant had been looking after Seth Quinn constantly, wanting his parents to know she had been diligently tending to Seth. This was an obvious attempt to defend her, or at least to prevent his parents from directing too much of their anger at her.
"Your older brother is injured and can’t make a call, but what about you, his younger brother? Are you just a decoration? Couldn’t you have let us know?" At this moment, Sienna Hale was torn between anguish over her son’s injury and fury at Clara Grant. No matter what Miles Quinn said, she had a comeback for him.
"And another thing! The reason you didn’t tell me and your father... I bet it wasn’t because you were afraid we’d worry, but because you were trying to cover for someone, wasn’t it?" As Sienna Hale spoke, she shot an angry glare at Clara Grant, who stood there with her head silently lowered. "Don’t think we don’t know that Seth got hurt saving her."
Hearing Sienna Hale’s words, Clara Grant subconsciously glanced up at her. Seeing the absolute fury in the older woman’s face, she couldn’t help but bite her lip and lower her head again.
’Seth got hurt saving me. That’s a fact. As a mother, it’s only natural for her to be heartbroken for her son and take her anger out on me. I can understand that.’
Seth Quinn’s face darkened, however. He frowned and called out, "Mom."
Miles Quinn glanced at Clara Grant and couldn’t help but frown as well. He turned to Sienna Hale and said, "Mom, you even know about that? Are your sources really that good, or did someone with too much time on their hands run their mouth to you?" As he spoke, Miles cast a seemingly casual but pointed glance at Autumn Shelby.
He hadn’t known Autumn Shelby was back, but seeing her arrive with his parents now, he subconsciously felt this was her handiwork.
’It’s obvious that my brother and Clara are together, yet she chose this exact moment to come back. Now that she’s here, she’s not going to give up on my brother willingly, is she?’
’And if she doesn’t want to give up, then she’s definitely going to cause trouble.’
’So, the one who told Mom and Dad that he was injured—and that he was injured saving Clara—had to be her.’
’But they kept the news of my brother’s injury confidential to minimize the impact. Other than the film crew and the police, no outsiders should have known, especially not this quickly.’
’So how Autumn found out was a mystery.’
