"If you think I didn’t see that test strip, then you’re joking, Angela," Hiro said, his brows furrowed. Since she didn’t want to tell him, he wanted to see the result for himself. "Wait... are you pregnant? Is that why you’re hiding it from me?"
"N-no... do you know how stupid you sound right now, Hiro?" Angela said, trying her best to stay calm. He was putting the pieces together, and soon he would know the truth.
"How? You’re hiding the truth from me even though I saw it with my own eyes?"
"Here, take it then." Angela handed the strip to him so he could see for himself.
Hiro was surprised that she didn’t put up a fight this time. He looked at the strip and saw the two lines.
"It says positive. You’re actually pregnant." His eyes widened. "I’m going to be a papa, right?"
"It’s not yours," Angela said, her eyes completely emotionless. She knew he would lose his mind this time.
"W-what do you mean?" Hiro asked, his gaze still fixed on the strip. How could she know the baby wasn’t his when no DNA test had been carried out?
The disappointment and fear in his eyes made her realize she might have taken the joke too far.
"The test isn’t mine, Hiro," Angela finally revealed.
He looked up, confusion written all over his face. She tried not to flinch.
"That’s why you’re not the father."
"I don’t understand. Is this not yours?" Hiro asked, lifting the test strip.
"No," she answered, crossing her arms. Deep down, her heart was beginning to pound like a drum, though she kept a calm expression.
"Why don’t I believe you, Angela?"
"You can ask them, Hiro." She pointed at her friends standing in the corner of the room.
Hiro turned to them. "Is this not hers?"
Both Alex and Stales shook their heads, even though they wanted no part in this.
"I see..." Hiro raised a brow, staring at the strip again. Something kept telling him they weren’t being honest, but he didn’t want to doubt Angela. "Who does the test belong to?"
Angela sighed, knowing he was going to ask that question.
"I’m asking you a question, and I need an answer."
"Alex’s girlfriend," Angela said without thinking twice. She wished she hadn’t dragged him into this, but it was already too late.
Hiro’s lips parted, yet no words came out.
He couldn’t believe Alex had a girlfriend, let alone one he had gotten pregnant.
Just yesterday, Alex had been crazy about Angela.
So what changed?
"Alex, isn’t it?" Angela asked, turning to look at him. She closed her eyes briefly, hoping he could see how much she regretted dragging him into this.
"Y-yes..." Stales answered on his behalf.
"Who would’ve thought?" Hiro said, handing the test strip back to Angela. "Well, congratulations, man."
Alex only nodded, which somehow made the whole thing even more suspicious.
Hiro noticed there was far more fear in Angela’s eyes than in her friends’.
"I’ll take my leave now since I’m clearly not welcome here," he said.
"Yes, get out. I don’t want to see you in my room again unless you’re here for Alpha duties," Angela said as she walked to the door. She pulled it open and gestured for him to leave.
Hiro nodded.
He wasn’t going to listen to her.
It was obvious she was hiding something from him, and sooner or later, he would find out what it was.
For now, he needed to figure out who Alex’s mysterious girlfriend was.
As Hiro stepped out of the room, Angela let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
The danger had passed.
At least for now.

As soon as he left, Angela shut the door and leaned against it. Her heart was pounding rapidly inside her chest. She had almost been caught in her lie today.
"I don’t think he actually believed us," Stales said doubtfully. He moved to the bed and sat down.
"It’s hard to say when it comes to what Hiro believes. He always goes the extra mile to prove himself right," Angela said as she walked back to the bed. She sat down and buried her face in her hands.
She felt too ashamed to look at Alex now.
"Why did you say Alex was your boyfriend? That’s crazy, girl," Stales chuckled, even though it wasn’t really funny.
"I don’t know who else to use." Angela lifted her head and looked at her friends. "I’m sorry, Alex."
"Do you think he believed the things you told him? He knows I have no girlfriend or mate," Alex said, sounding a little annoyed. He would have left the room already if not for her condition.
"Let’s just pray he doesn’t tell Kaito about it. I think he’s the one who knows too damn well that you don’t have a girlfriend," Stales said.
"That’s true." Angela sighed heavily. "Today is only my first day, and I’m already facing trouble."
"Are you going to tell your family?" Alex asked.
"No, Alex. I don’t want anyone to know about this until I figure it all out," she replied.
"Fine."
"Do whatever you have to do now. It won’t be long before the Alphas smell the pup," Stales added.
Angela’s heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t even thought about that. Now she had even more problems on her hands.
