Chapter 667: Changes in the Jade Pendant
The mother and son were walking on their way back, but they had just walked a short distance when a group of people suddenly rushed out. Xu Mumu frowned slightly, instinctively blocking Doudou behind her.
"Who are you people?" Xu Mumu shouted loudly, realizing the newcomers had ill intentions.
These people ignored her, charging straight at Doudou, reaching out to grab him.
Xu Mumu’s expression changed. As the man’s hand was about to reach her, she didn’t hesitate to take action. Although the men had weapons, they posed no threat to her life.
"Doudou, stay obediently behind Mommy." Xu Mumu shouted, then started to fight these people.
It had been a long time since Xu Mumu had exerted herself so thoroughly, except for that time hunting wild boars. There was a bloodthirsty glint in her eyes.
These people didn’t expect Xu Mumu to be skilled. There were four of them in total, and even though they were armed, they couldn’t get past Xu Mumu, who firmly protected the child behind her.
Their skills weren’t bad, and their tactics suggested they were desperadoes, which made Xu Mumu all the more relentless in her attacks.
A few minutes passed, and all the assailants lay on the ground, their arms and legs broken, with some having several ribs fractured.
If Xu Mumu hadn’t restrained herself, she might have had the impulse to snap their necks.
Xu Mumu rubbed her cheek, feeling the bloodthirsty sensation was overwhelming, and coldly demanded of the four, "Speak, who sent you?"
Xu Mumu collected their weapons, knowing they were crucial evidence.
"No, no one," the bald, scarred man said with difficulty, blood still dripping from the corner of his mouth. Someone more timid might have been terrified by his appearance.
"It doesn’t matter if you don’t talk," Xu Mumu sneered, pulling out her phone, which sat securely in her small bag, and first called the police.
After notifying the police, Xu Mumu called Yin Yang.
"Mommy, are you alright?" Doudou asked anxiously, seeing his mother’s hand trembling slightly.
"Baby, mommy is fine. I have an important task for you: keep an eye on these people until the police arrive; mommy needs to rest for a while." Xu Mumu seriously instructed the little guy.
"Okay." The little guy nodded obediently, his gaze fixed on the group.
Xu Mumu sat against a stone, looking at her slightly trembling hands with a bitter smile, realizing the aftereffects of her past trials hadn’t disappeared as she’d thought. She hadn’t expected these people to pull knives on her today.
Yin Yang arrived faster than the police, coming upon his son clumsily watching over the attackers.
Meanwhile, Xu Mumu sat hunched against a stone, hugging her knees, her hands and even her body trembling slightly.
"Daddy." Seeing his father, the little guy instantly felt relief. Even though the assailants were unconscious, he was still scared; he had never encountered such a situation before.
"Daddy is here, don’t be afraid, I’m here," Yin Yang said softly, holding his son as he approached Xu Mumu.
"Mumu, Mumu," Yin Yang called out gently to Xu Mumu.
"You’re here," Xu Mumu lifted her head, her eyes slightly red.
"Mumu, are you okay?" Yin Yang set his son down and embraced his trembling wife.
"Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid."
"I’m not afraid, I want to kill someone," Xu Mumu took a deep breath, trying hard to keep her voice steady.
"Let me take a moment." Xu Mumu’s voice was soft as she leaned into Yin Yang’s arms, slowly calming down.
The police arrived shortly after, and Yin Yang had already understood the situation from his son, taking the lead in dealing with the police.
The attackers were taken to the hospital, while Xu Mumu and her family were brought to the police station to file a report.
On their way home, the family of three was silent.
Once home, Yin Yang held their son and took his wife’s slightly cool hand as they walked into the room.
"Doudou, would you like to sleep with us tonight?" Yin Yang gently asked the little one.
"Okay, I want to protect Mommy," the little guy earnestly replied.
"Then you have to work hard to become strong so you can protect Mommy," Yin Yang said, gently patting the little guy’s head.
After today’s events, the little one seemed to have matured quite a bit.
At night, when Doudou finally fell asleep, Xu Mumu nestled into Yin Yang’s embrace with a sigh.
"Mumu, would you like me to get you a psychologist?" Yin Yang’s voice was soft, tinged with heartache.
"No need, as long as no one provokes me," Xu Mumu shook her head. Except for Yin Yang, she couldn’t open up to others, especially about the extraordinary experiences of her past life. She wasn’t even planning to tell her parents much.
"Alright, we won’t. In the future, when you go out, I’ll hire a couple of bodyguards to stay with you. Let them handle these matters." Yin Yang didn’t press the issue, knowing his wife’s situation was unique.
Listening to Yin Yang’s heartbeat, Xu Mumu felt a lot calmer.
Suddenly, the jade pendant slipped from her clothing, and Xu Mumu reached out to catch it.
Perhaps it was just an illusion, but it felt like a gentle force swept through her heart, taking away her bloodthirsty thoughts with it.
Xu Mumu stared intently at the jade pendant, then clung to Yin Yang’s clothing, "Yin Yang, look, doesn’t it seem like the jade on this pendant has improved a bit?"
Yin Yang picked up the jade pendant, which still retained some warmth from his wife’s body.
The light hadn’t been turned off; mother and son had been frightened today, and Doudou would be scared if the lights were off.
He held the jade pendant up to the light to examine it.
The quality of the jade seemed a bit better; was it just an illusion?
No, it wasn’t; the jade quality was indeed improving.
"Slightly better, but not dramatically so," Yin Yang replied truthfully.
"This jade pendant is definitely not an ordinary item," Xu Mumu said with a hint of excitement.
"Yes, it’s surely not simple; the blind old man left it, it mustn’t be simple," Yin Yang agreed.
Though they didn’t know what the jade pendant would eventually become, Xu Mumu clutched it tightly nonetheless.
The jade pendant was tucked back into her clothing, which brought Xu Mumu a lot of comfort, thinking it shouldn’t be kept too far from her.
Wearing the jade pendant, Xu Mumu felt much more at ease.
Watching the little one sleeping, his brow slightly furrowed, Xu Mumu reached out to hold him close. Yin Yang watched her actions and unconsciously embraced both mother and child.
"Sleep, we’ll have answers tomorrow," Yin Yang said, gently kissing Xu Mumu on the forehead.
"Okay," Xu Mumu agreed obediently.
Perhaps because Mommy was holding him, the little one gradually fell into a more restful sleep, and his furrowed brow also eased.
The room fell silent, and Xu Mumu thought she might have trouble falling asleep, but listening to the steady breathing of the father and son, sleepiness quickly overcame her.
