Chapter 3: Ch 3: First Quest: Little Blindwalker
Raidan noticed the young man only when he spoke.
Above his head, a green health bar was shown, indicating he was also a Player.
But why was he asking Raidan this question? Didn’t he see the health bar above Raidan’s head?
"I’m also Earthling like you, so you shouldn’t expect anything from me," Raidan replied a little impatiently.
He was in a hurry to explore his System, so this unexpected interference appeared rather bothersome to him.
The blue-haired guy laughed heartily. "Oh really? That’s even more perfect. My name is Kyle, eh. I would like to team up if you don’t mind."
Raidan frowned. Why was this guy so eager to team up? Was he really that scared? Or something else?
He was about to refuse, but suddenly several villagers wearing strange ceremonial robes came and surrounded Kyle.
"Chief, this one will suffice." They said to an old man under the big tree while pointing their spears at Kyle.
"Very well. Bring him here. The Sun God is angry, he needs to be pleased," the Chief replied, looking slightly frightened.
Raidan felt a bad premonition. He instantly distanced himself from the stunned Kyle.
Kyle was surrounded now by the intimidating villagers.
His face turned pale, feeling their bad intentions.
"Sirs, what are you talking about? What sacrifice? Leave me alone!"
"Shut your mouth, outsider!"
His protests were futile as they dragged him under the tree.
As Raidan looked closely, he noticed a sun-shaped symbol engraved on the banyan tree’s main trunk.
It occasionally shinned with golden energy, almsot as if reacting to the villagers’ prayers.
"Things are not looking good. Are they going to kill him to please this ’God’?"
Raidan’s eyes were fixated on the scene.
The scene played out exactly as he had guessed.
"Oh Great Sun God, by the mercy of the heavens and the grace of Mother Earth, we offer this sacrifice before your divine light. Accept our humble devotion and bathe this land once more in your eternal radiance.
Our crops wither beneath the encroaching darkness. Our rivers dry, our fields lifeless, and our people starve. The farmers who once sang beneath your golden dawn now kneel in despair.
You are the flame that drives away the cold night. You are the dawn that grants life to all beneath the skies. Without your blessed light, this world shall perish.
We beg of you, O Eternal Sun, cast your radiant gaze upon us once more and deliver us from this encroaching darkness."
Every villager prayed with hands clasped over their chests while a large fire was lit in the center.
Meanwhile, Kyle was bound to a single wooden log and then thrown straight into the fire.
"Ahhhh! It burns, it hurts! Argh, spare me! I didn’t do anything wrong! Why are you hurting me?!"
Completely indifferent to his painful cries, the villagers kept their focus on the ritual.
Raidan felt a chill penetrate to his very bones and marrow.
Kyle was dead.
And no one knows if there was a respawn option or not.
But, what if it had been Raidan instead of Kyle? Wouldn’t he be the one getting roasted alive right now?
Just imagining that brought a primal fear for his existence.
Is this how insignificant a player’s life was in this world?
Is this the price for power?
He clenched his fists as the flames consumed Kyle’s body whole. Kyle had looked at him as his last hope, but Raidan didn’t help him.
After all, he himself was weak. Any effort would have lead to his demise as well.
That being said, why was this village so dangerous?
According to general knowledge, a starting village was always friendly to players, providing easy quests and guidance to newcomers.
But this village was entirely different.
The villagers just brutally sacrificed an innocent for their selfish gains.
Nonetheless, this incident became deeply engraved itself in Raidan’s mind, teaching him firsthand just how brutal this Olympus could be.
Without wasting a breath, he quickly called out to the System.
"System, come out!"
[ "What can I do for you, Host?" the system responded. ]
Raidan’s eyes turned stone-like as he spat, "I would like to create a quest. Guide me."
[ "Absolutely." ]
The quest creation interface flashed before his eyes.
[ Quest Title: ___
[ Objective: ___
[ Time Limit: ___
[ Difficulty Level: ___
[ Punishment: ___ freewebnovёl.ƈom
[ Rewards: To be Calculated ]
He just needed to fill in the empty spaces using his mind, and the rewards would automatically update.
As an experiment, Raidan created his first quest like this:
[ Quest Title: Little Blindwalker ]
[ Objective: Walk 10 steps with eyes closed ]
[ Time Limit: 1 Minute ]
[ Difficulty: Easy ]
[ Punishment: None ]
[ Rewards: +10 EXP, ATK +1 ]
Since this was just an experimental quest, he didn’t add any kind of punishment.
The quest was created fast, and now it was time to run it.
[ "Say ’Accept’ to run it by yourself, Host." ]
Raidan understood.
"Accept!" he muttered quietly.
Dong!
[ Active Quest Has Started. Time remaining: 00:00:59 ]
Tick, tick, tick.
The clock started ticking almost instantly.
Raidan didn’t waste any time.
He closed his eyes and then started walking in a clear direction where he saw no stumbling blocks.
1 step.
2 steps.
5 steps.
7 steps.
All 10 steps were completed easily without any struggle.
[ Congratulations! Quest Completed: Little Blindwalker ]
[ You have received 10 EXP, +1 ATK. (Check Status) ]
Raidan felt the experience points flooding inside his body, and alongside this, he felt a rush of strength out of nowhere.
Feeling the improvement, he let out a wide smile.
"It’s true. It’s actually true. Thank you, System."
His laughter sounded as if he had been pulled from the pits of despair.
And why shouldn’t he laugh?
Without power, traversing a world governed entirely by supernatural powers would have been a sure execution.
At first, he was a little doubtful, but now, practically witnessing the cheat ability of the Quest Creation System, hope bloomed inside his chest.
He could finally set out in adventuring this new world, and possibly forget everything about Emma.
Setting all that aside, he hurriedly wanted to see something.
"Status."
