Chapter 26: Ch 26: Agility Power
"Boss, how long should we keep these disgusting corpses with us? Can’t we get rid of them already?"
"Shut up and do your work! Find that scroll for me!" the boss growled.
The underling grumbled, then went to join the others.
However, all of a sudden, an eerie chill crawled up his spine.
His body stiffened, his long experience as a killer screaming at him to run.
However, before he could take another step...
Slice!
The underling’s body was cut cleanly at the waist, splitting into two distinct parts.
Thud!
The severed pieces fell onto the floor with a sickening thud.
The boss, who had just turned around to check on his underling, found himself completely frozen.
"Fuck! Who dares?!" he barked.
The other killers immediately started gathering around the spot.
However, as they were approaching, their bodies fell lifelessly onto the floor one after another.
Some were slashed across the neck, some bisected straight down from the temple to the groin, and some severed at a 45-degree angle from the shoulder to the waist.
"B-Boss! Help!"
The echoes from their severed vocal cords and the rapidly fading signals in their brains could only process those two words.
After that, they simply collapsed onto the floor.
The scene played out like a horror movie.
The Butcher, Bumran, saw nothing but a human silhouette moving at an impossible speed.
Sometimes on the wall, sometimes in the air, and sometimes in the shadowy corners of the room.
Seeing his underlings getting slaughtered so effortlessly, his heart began to tremble uncontrollably.
"Wh-who are you?"
"Don’t mess with me, I tell you. I am a senior member of the Crimson Graveyard. If... if you do something to me, they will not spare you."
Whoosh!
Raidan abruptly stopped right in front of the boss’s face, bringing a gust of wind behind him.
The Butcher’s heart nearly jumped out of his throat.
But upon noticing Raidan’s stolen face of a naive young man, he recoiled in shock.
Raidan didn’t look anything like a killer. He looked completely innocent and naive.
But his eyes... his eyes held a terrifying, mysterious depth, as if this was not the real him. It was as if this appearance was all just an illusion.
Raidan’s gaze bore deep into the Butcher’s trembling eyes.
"Why did you kill them? What wrong did they do to you?" he asked coldly, making the Butcher swallow hard.
He immediately knelt on one knee and said,
"I... I was just following orders! The innkeeper, that old fool... he accidentally took a highly valuable summoning scroll belonging to the Crimson Graveyard!"
Raidan’s didn’t interrupt.
The Butcher continued,
"He didn’t know what it was. He must have picked it up by mistake during his last supply run near our territory. But that scroll is priceless. If I don’t bring it back to the Young Master, he will slaughter me. He will skin me alive! I had no choice!"
Raidan’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
"So you killed an innocent man and his child just for a scroll?" he asked.
Feeling the coldness radiating from Raidan, Butcher grabbed Raidan’s legs pleadingly.
"No. We initially just came here to look for it nicely! But they wouldn’t tell us where it was! So we had no choice to torture them, to get the information out of them. But that old fool was too stubborn. He and his son stayed silent until the very end. Absolutely foolish!
Please, spare me! The scroll must still be hidden somewhere in this kitchen or the cellar. If you let me live, I’ll give it to you! I’ll tell the Young Master that the innkeeper already sold it to someone else!"
Raidan obviously knew a heartless killer’s words could never be trusted.
So without delay, moving at fifteen times the speed of a regular human, he swung his Mythril sword horizontally, slicing straight through the Butcher’s neck.
The Butcher’s head was instantly cut off, his eyes wide in disbelief.
Who did things this way? He was just begging for mercy, and Raidan had already sealed his fate.
Raidan withdrew his sword, then slowly wiped the blood away in disgust.
He had just killed several men, and yet he didn’t feel a single shred of pity or hesitation.
Perhaps the world was truly changing him, for better or worse.
Next, he went to the father and son’s corpses, deciding to bury them somewhere nearby. While doing so, he had to close his eyes to avoid looking at the gruesome scene.
However, just then, the innkeeper’s eyes suddenly fluttered.
Raidan flinched while the man gasped for breath, speaking weakly:
"Water! Water!"
Raidan quickly grabbed a nearby jar of water and started feeding it to the old man.
Even though the old man drank, it was ineffective. The liquid mixed with his blood and poured out from his horrifying wounds.
It was already a miracle that the old man was still breathing.
Unfortunately, there was no way to save him now.
The innkeeper knew that, too.
His eyelids felt as heavy as mountains, and he could barely keep his focus.
But he did notice Raidan’s face from up close.
"Cough... You’re the customer... who disappeared yesterday..." he said, his voice rasping.
Raidan nodded. "Yes, it is me."
The innkeeper noticed the corpses lying on the floor as well. His heart somehow felt at ease seeing their assailants’ demise.
"Thank you for avenging us, young man. My foolishness brought this disaster upon my house."
Raidan became curious. freewēbnoveℓ.com
"What do you mean? Is it somehow related to the scroll they were talking about?"
The old man coughed once, then spoke. "Yes. That scroll... It is a summoning scroll to summon an ancient blood demon using the sacrifice of tens of thousands of humans. I accidentally stumbled upon their secret conversation. After learning about it, I recognized the danger to the entirety of Vanir City. So I secretly stole it and hid it in a very secure place. Yet, despite my utmost caution, they found me."
Blood spilled from his lips.
"And because of me, my innocent son died as well. Still, I was willing to take the secret to my grave... But I also know they would eventually find it. So I must ask you to find it and destroy that demonic scroll, young man. Will you do it?"
