Chapter 95: Chapter 95: CEO’s Wife
Edie was too focused on talking to Ivan that she missed the receptionist’s intentions.
Hearing Edie’s voice, Ivan was a little surprised, "Mrs. Yates, what can I do for you?" Mrs. Yates would never call him, so it had to be significant.
"I am on the first floor of the L.N building. The receptionist won’t allow me to come up and see Stuart."
"What?" Ivan yelled out, shocking all the staff in the office. They all turned to look at him, staring at him with puzzlement in their eyes.
He swept his eyes over them. Everyone lowered their heads and continued to work. Standing up, Ivan walked towards a corner of the room. He lowered his voice, "Mrs. Yates, why are you here?"
"I.....brought some food for Stuart...." It was the first time she ever did such a thing for him. She felt a little shy.
What was this? A love lunch, Ivan thought. They wanted to show their love to everyone in the company. Thinking about it, Ivan, as a single lonely man, wanted to burst out and cry. He started thinking and thought that Mrs. Yates’ bringing Stuart lunch may be the solution to Mr. CEO’s lousy mood this morning.
"’ Where are you? Downstairs in the hall?"
"Yes, I am not allowed to come up."
Ivan knew the regulations and rules in the cooperation. Edie was not their employee. She didn’t make an appointment either. It was understandable that she was not allowed in.
"Wait a minute. I will be right there."
Ivan thought about asking someone to get her for him, but since Edie was Mr. Yates’s wife, it would be better for him to do it. Edie nodded, "Okay." Then, she hung up and waited for Ivan.
Edie looked at the receptionist and could see how her eyes were so full of ridicule and almost hatred. Seeing this expression on her face, Edie frowned a little bit. She never provoked this lady. All she wanted was to see Stuart. Why did she have to stare at her this way?
Before long, two big strong men appeared behind her, "Lady, please leave the building right away." Edie turned around. Frowning, Edie asked, "Why? Am I not allowed to wait for someone here. I am not doing any harm to anyone just standing there?"
"We have been watching you from the monitor, and you have been here for a long time. Our CEO will not meet with you. If you don’t leave, it might have some impact on our company’s image."
She knew the receptionist wasn’t completely honest with the men. Edie was furious now, and she had to get tough and stand her ground, "So what? It’s none of your business where I want to stay. Besides, how do you know he won’t meet me? Since when has the security been authorized to make decisions for the CEO?"
The security never expected that she would say something like that. They couldn’t win by talking to her; therefore, they had to take action. They grabbed her arms and started to pull her out.
"Please get out of here."
Edie escaped. She never expected that they would make such a scene. She was so upset, "You don’t have the right to force me out. I have to see him today." Sneering, the receptionist said, "Who do you think you are? You dare to say his name out loud. Do you have any idea who he is? You are not qualified enough to meet with him."
"Me, not qualified? I am his wife."
They had driven Edie so crazy that for the first time, she said she was his wife. Hearing this, both the receptionist and the security guards started to mock her. All the staff in the cooperation didn’t know their CEO was married. It was also said in some gossip throughout the company that their CEO had no interest in women.
The receptionist showed a mean smile, "If you are his wife, then I would be his lovely sister." However, before she had a chance to finish her words, she heard someone calling from a distance, "Mrs. Yates."
After hearing this, the receptionist stood there with her mouth wide open and held back and was speechless. Everyone turned around, saw a tall and slender young man coming fast towards them. It was the secretary director of the CEO.
The receptionist was just an employee at the bottom of the line. She had to bow and perform politely to both Edie and the secretary director, Ivan. Seeing Ivan walking towards them, the receptionist became so nervous that she didn’t even know where to place her hands.
However....he didn’t even acknowledge her. His eyes were fixed on Edie. What did Ivan call this woman? Ivan stopped in front of Edie, greeting her politely, "Mrs. Yates, it’s so good to see you."
This time, the receptionist heard it clearly. Therefore, the woman in front of her was indeed the wife of the CEO. Oh my god! Did she treat her horribly? Standing still, the receptionist felt like she wanted to shrink away with embarrassment.
Nodding, Edie said to Ivan, "I want to see Stuart. Is it convenient?"
"Of course, he will be so pleased to see you."
Turning around, Edie looked at the receptionist, "But this lady told me that he had no time to see me. She even asked the security to come and escort me out." As Ivan turned to look at the receptionist, she was absolutely frightened. She really didn’t know who she was and felt awful about the situation.
"Mr. Scott, I didn’t know the CEO was married."
Ivan felt a little sympathy towards the woman. There were always a lot of women who wanted to be the CEO’s wife. Now that Edie said that she was the CEO’s wife, there will be a lot of unhappy women.
Ivan interrupted the receptionist, "You are fired. Do the procedure and get up to the human resource department now." She widened her eyes and couldn’t believe what she just heard. She tried to explain, "Mr. Scott, I didn’t do it on purpose. Do you really have to fire me because of a small mistake?"
"It was not because of your small mistake, but your silliness. As the receptionist of the cooperation, you are by no means a clever woman."
Her eyes became moist after hearing Ivan’s words. There were plenty of people dreaming of working for the L.N. group. She couldn’t believe that she had screwed it up.
"Mr. Scott, please. I beg you. Give me one more chance. Don’t fire me."
Seeing her reaction, Ivan frowned. He looked at the two security guards standing beside him, "You know what your responsibility is, do your job. Don’t allow her to cry here?"
Two men immediately started to escort her to the human resource department. They couldn’t believe that she had offended Mr. Yates’s wife, and they were also worried that somehow they might be reprimanded as well.
They were quite physical with her; they grabbed her arms and dragged her out. She was helpless, and there was no telling by her blank stare as to what she was thinking. All you could see was her terrified face, which began to quiver.
Ivan Scott then said, "Ask the receptionist who is training to start work now." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Then, he looked at Edie, with an entirely different facial expression, "Mrs. Yates, allow me to bring you to the CEO’s office."
"Okay, thank you."
