Chapter 395: Chapter 395: I’m Sorry For What I Did

Edie was taking a bath, then there was rapping on the door, and she heard Stuart’s deep voice outside. "I don’t know why you’re so upset with me. What did I do?" he said, his voice faint as if the room had snatched his breath away.

Edie was trembling and upset. "You should know what you did," she said, gathering her courage to speak to him.

"I don’t like it when you’re upset with me." When Stuart spoke, his voice was soft and vaguely hoarse. "I’m sorry for what I did," he says, his voice so magnetic.

Edie was still mad, but she shook her head and started to laugh. "He has no idea what he’s apologizing for, and he sounds so sincere. Stuart might be intelligent, but sometimes he’ so naive when it comes to women," she said to herself with a hint of annoyance in her voice. She quickly finished up in the bathroom and opened the door. Stuart was leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets. His head was lowered as if he were ashamed. Stuart turned around and looked at her. Edie stared into his dark eyes with an angry look and said, "I shouldn’t have to explain to you what you did. You should know why I’m upset."

Stuart shook his head and said, "Honestly, I don’t know what I did."

"I know you don’t," she said sarcastically and rolled her eyes. "I know one thing you could do to make me feel a little better." Her smile was sly and growing more confident by the second.

Stuart nodded his head with uncertainty. "What? I’ll do anything!"

Edie sat on the bed and narrowed her eyes. "My feet hurt from walking all day. Would you massage them for me?" Then Stuart sat on the opposite end and lifted her feet into his lap. "Oh. My God! It feels so good." Her eyes closed, her head fell back, and a low moan sounded deep in her throat. She moaned again and summoned the energy to open one eye, "Your hands are magic."

"You’re exhausted. Get some sleep," Stuart said softly.

Edie smiled, and her eyes drifted shut again. Stuart massaged her feet for a few more minutes, and she encouraged his ministrations with soft sighs and murmurs. Eventually, even those sounds faded as exhaustion overcame her. He gently took a blanket and put it over her, trying not to wake her up.

Edie grabbed his arm and whispered, "I’m sorry for getting mad at you."

Stuart bent down, moved her hair away from her face tenderly, and kissed her cheek. "I’ll make it up to you. I promise. Just be patient with me." His voice was low, but it still sounded loud as it broke into the quiet night.

The next morning. Edie woke up alone in the bed. ’Where’s Stuart?’ she wondered. She got dressed and went downstairs. "Mr. Bates, do you know where Stuart is?" she asked."

"Mr. Yates didn’t want to disturb you. He had to leave early this morning for a business meeting," he replied. Edie sat at the table, eating breakfast while chatting with Mr. Bates."What are your plans for today?"

Edie didn’t answer him right away. She was trying to think about what she could do. ’Let’s see. I’ll watch some TV and do some reading.’ Then she got up and looked in the cupboards and noticed there wasn’t anything to snack on. "I think I’ll go to the grocery store."

Mr. Bates nodded his head and said, "Ivan’s here. He’ll take you."

Ivan waited in the car for Edie while she was in the store. When she came out, he noticed the amount of bags she was carrying. "I thought you only wanted snacks. Are you going to do some cooking today? What are you going to make?" He shot out questions one after the other, obviously excitedly.

"No! I’m an awful cook," Edie said bluntly.

Ivan took several of the bags from Edie and began to put them in the trunk of the car. Edie was standing beside the passenger’s door when she noticed a little boy coming toward her. "What a handsome little boy," she said. She looked at Ivan and then back at the little boy. "He’s crying," she said sadly. She no sooner got the words out of her mouth, and the boy fell into her arms.

"Can you help me?" he asked.

"What’s wrong? Where are your parents?" said Edie, crouching down by him and looking at him anxiously. Hearing the concerned tone in her voice, he started sobbing, more and more violently. She took his face in her hands and wiped his tears with her thumbs.

"I don’t have a mother or a father. Neither one of them wanted me, and I don’t know how to find my way back home." The little boy took a deep breath and continued. "I’m hungry," said the child piteously. He was pale, and tears were streaming down his face. His hunter green eyes were like glass balls that shone in the light. He buried his face into Edie’s chest.

Edie’s heart went out to this poor innocent child. She took one of the bags from her hand and passed it to him and said, "Here, take whatever you want." frёewebnoѵēl.com

Ivan walked toward Edie with a puzzled expression on his face. "Who is this?" he asked curiously.

The little boy began to cry even harder. Edie looked down at him and asked, "What’s the matter?"

"I’m still hungry." He sniffed. "Can I have something else to eat?" he asked, looking up at Edie.

As Edie looked down into the little boy’s face, she swallowed and took a deep breath. She began to shake, unshed tears glittering in her eyes. She put her hand on his shoulder and said, "Of course! Take what you want." She stopped for a second and asked: "Would you like me to take you out for lunch?"

The little boy nodded his head excitedly. "Could I have a steak?" Then he looked at Ivan and rolled his eyes. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

As Ivan listened to the conversation, he had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. He looked at Edie anxiously as his eyes flicked over them, and then he swallowed. "Mrs. Yates...."

"Excuse me! You lost your money!" the little boy said, cutting Ivan off mid-sentence.
