Chapter 383: Chapter 383: I’m Not Leaving His Side
"Maybe I’ll have to reconsider. My doctor did say it would be good to be around friends," Donald smiled. Then he turned and glared at Stuart.
Stuart hated Donald and didn’t want him near Edie. If she were to say no, Edie would be upset. He suddenly had an idea. "Since you’re still going through treatment, I have another house nearby. It’s secluded and quiet. It’d be perfect for you," Stuart said, flashing angry eyes at Donald.
Seeing the expression on Stuart’s face, Donald said, "That’s too much, I don’t want to put you out." He sighed. "We still have some business to discuss. Wouldn’t it be easier for me to stay here instead of running back and forth?" He tilts his head to the side. "Why don’t you decide for me?" he asked Edie, knowing she was too kind and would agree and let him stay.
His question caught her a little off guard, but without any hesitation, she agreed. "Of course, you can stay with us." Edie smiled at Donald, and his dark eyes never left hers. "It’d be exhausting for you to run from the hospital to here. We have lots of room in the house so that it won’t be an issue."
This was the first time Stuart had been forced to give up. His face was livid with rage and his hands tightly clenched. He tried hard for Edie’s sake to control his mood. "I guess the decision has been made," he said, he forced his anger down as he carefully measured his words.
"Thank you so much, Edie, and of course you too, Stuart," Donald said with a self-satisfied smile on his face. "I hope my room is next to yours, and it’ll make it much easier for us to communicate."
Finally, Stuart couldn’t take it anymore, and he interrupted, "Mr. Bates, could you take Mr. Lynch to his room." He leaned towards Mr. Bates and said in a low voice. "Do you know what room I’m talking about? The one for guests, especially for him."
Mr. Bates nodded and smiled, trying not to laugh. He knew Stuart’s true meaning. Donald wasn’t welcome, and Stuart wanted Mr. Bates to take Donald to a room that was the furthest away from his. "Come with me," he said to Donald. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
After Donald left, Edie threw herself at Stuart, wrapping her arms around his neck. She tilted her chin slightly, whispering in his ear. "Thank you for doing this. It means so much to me." Relief and joy-filled her voice. She gazed at him with fierce adoration in her eyes. "You surprise me," she said as her eyes widened. "A month ago, you would’ve never agreed to let Donald stay." Edie was pleased to see Stuart reveal a different side of himself to her.
"It’s fine...with you.....then?" Stuart said, seeming to squeeze out the words.
Edie didn’t notice the sarcasm in his voice. She drew close to him, leaning her head against his chest. "It’s going to be a little awkward having Donald in the same house as us, but I respect your decision," she said honestly. "After all that’s happened, I was also surprised Donald agreed to stay. Don’t you think it’s a little odd?" she asked. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Stuart couldn’t give her an answer because he didn’t have one. He nodded his head slowly. "Maybe," he said as he thought about Edie’s question. "He does have some business to discuss with me, and it is close to the hospital." It was as much as he could tell her and as much as he wanted to express the nature of his discontent.
Reluctantly, Edie pushed away from his warmth. "I don’t want to be rude, so I guess I should see if he needs anything."
Then Edie kissed Stuart on the cheek and went to the guest room. As Stuart watched her walk away, his face became more livid with anger. "My wife is going to check on her ex-boyfriend," he mumbled unpleasantly. "Why would I allow this?"
Edie arrived at the guest room and peeked in the door. Donald was looking out the window and hadn’t unpacked yet. "Do you have more things in your car?" she asked, sounding confused.
The second he heard Edie’s voice, he turned around and his mouth curved into a gentle smile. "I’ve decided it would be better if I find someplace else to stay. I think it would be better for my recovery."
"Really?" Edie’s eyes widened slightly, a look of surprise forming on her face. "I thought you were going to stay here?" She couldn’t help feeling relieved. ’Thank God,’ Edie thought to herself. ’Donald may not remember the past five years, but I sure do. It would’ve been very uncomfortable and intense for everyone in the house if he stayed.’
Donald was relieved as well, but not because of the same reasons as Edie. Seeing her every day was like a kind of torture, and the thought of another man touching her made him see red. ’How can I stay and watch them together?’ He tried to keep his head clean. His heart was broken, but now he wondered if it had hurt as much as it should have. Only now that his last hope was gone did he taste the full bitterness of his disappointment and realized how desperately he loved Edie. With great difficulty, he repressed his despair. "How long are you planning on staying in Britain," he said, smiling brightly.
"I’m not sure," Edie answered, shaking her head. "I’m finished filming for a while, so it’s nice to be able to take a break from it all." Donald wasn’t aware of Stuart’s injuries, and Edie wasn’t going to tell him. Her intentions were to stay until Stuart was fully recuperated.
Donald nodded understandingly with a smile that was agreeable and insincere. The room fell into an uncomfortable silence. He looked down at her, his eyes tender and full of affection. Then he took a deep breath and released it. "I know what happened with Aaron, and I’m worried about you." A concerned look came over his face. "If you stay with Stuart, your life will always be in danger. I wish for my own safety, and you would leave him." His eyes were wide, trying to pass some hidden meaning to his words as he spoke.
Edie had a puzzled expression on her face. There was no hesitation in her words. "Leave him. I would never do that. I’m here now, and no matter what happens, we’ll deal with it together. He’s my husband, and I’m not leaving his side."
There were so many things he wanted to tell her, and he didn’t know where to begin or even if he should say anything. He wanted Edie to know how much he loved her. That she had an unassailable place in his heart and that it pained him to see her with Stuart. ’I can’t tell her the truth. She’ll hate me,’ Donald sighed inside.
